+Brandon Bassett hmm, you'll have to locate the one wire that is the horn in the clock spring. I don't have a wiring diagram handy but if you look on google you'll be able to find which one is the horn trigger.
I recently replaced my front struts i over extended the axle i guess my car is aligned it runs straight can and somehow the steering wheel is now crooked can i do this method or what do you recommend?
new struts will always = crooked steering wheel. If your axles are working properly and not reinstalled in the "overextended" state then just get an alignment. I just did my struts recently too and my steering wheel was super cockeyed.
Will a leather steering wheel from any year EL (2001 to 2005) work on 7th gen Honda Civics, even on the cheapie Civics without cruise control? I love these little tiny OEM mods as well, which I do on my old Maxima.
Insert the key into the ignition switch. Gently turn key forward like you're trying to start the car and while you're turning the key jiggle the steering wheel back and forth with some appreciable force. I'll bet you'll be able to "unlock/unjam" your steering wheel.
That is correct. Disconnect and wait about 10-15 minutes for safety (allow SRS system to discharge) and then when you’re done hook the negative terminal back up.
Can you elaborate by what you mean by the passenger side? I am assuming you're referring to the passenger side air bag? I haven't removed one on the 7th gen so I don't want to give you wrong advice on how to do it.
hellow i have a question for you.if i want to change the steering wheel of my car, with another with buttons control will it work?and if not what changes shall i do?
if your car didn't have the buttons on the steering wheel to begin with then you'll have to wire up the steering column with a wiring harness from a donor car. I'm assuming that since the steering wheel I've demonstrated has cruise control that your car likely don't have cruise control. If that is the case there is quite a bit of work needed to convert your car to have cruise which includes buying a bunch of electro mechanical parts to attach to the throttle body.
is this a fact for all the cars?i dont want a cruise control only the buttons for the radio cd.my car is an opel corsa 1300 cdti 2005.if you know something will help.thanks for your concern.
not necessarily fact for all cars but typically car manufacturers will omit the extra wiring needed to control things like cruise control, phones, radios and whatever else can be controlled from the steering wheel. I'm not familiar with your Opel Corsa but I suspect it will be like all the other cars where you'll have to replace the clockspring, install additional wiring and then somehow integrate that into your car's audio system. It is generally a lot of work and not for the faint of heart.
Janice Dizon ep3 wheels fit, acura es 1.7 leather wheel fits, even s2000 can work with a little modification. look on the 7th gen civic forum for detailed how to
no it will not. The steering wheel swappability is from 2001-2005 civics BUT the process in how the swap is done is fundamentally the same for each generation of honda. i.e civics, accords, TSX, etc.
@@piercedasian I did find a part and successfully installed it. But there was a difficulty. First the airbag screws were glued solid by Honda with green glue when they replaced the faulty takata airbags. It took me 3 different type of torx tools to get them out ( only the T handle bolster type sold by craftman at sears could do the job, but the tool tip got twisted by deformation the time i was done, i had to use formidable force). Also i only found a black one, there was a brown one but the airbag had gone off and damaged the leather not on the ring but on the straight part of the wheel.
wow that's nuts that they used thread locker on the airbags. So glad the new Honda's don't use screw anymore but spring clips. Much easier to service (not that the old ones were difficult). At least you managed to find a steering wheel so that's a positive!
@@piercedasian yes, they used thread locker. It was crazy tight, i couldn't believe it when the torx tool tip was twisted after i was done. It's like i actually twisted hardened steel. I pushed my whole weight and more standing from outside the car and turned the bolster at same time. Crazy. But i had it for a month now. very nice feel, much better than my old LX plastic wheel that disintegrated. But the airbag cover part (brown) is now mismatched with the ring (black) oh well, i only paid $12. Am going to hunt for wheels next time at the yard but I heard tire places charge you an arm to dismount tires, mount and balance, like $50 per wheel.
Idk if I could help or not but I installed an aem steering wheel/hub without airbag to my 01 honda civic n accidentally broke the black part that spins so I removed all of it and bolted my wheel on everything was straight an all that but after finishing I started my car pulled it out of the garage n it more or less stalled out so figured no big deal tried to start it again now it just cranks over but WILL NOT START..would that have anything to do with installing the aem wheel n removing evrythinv behind the wheel..? I know I'll have the srs light on but could that stop the car from firing..?? Any he'll from ANYONE would be great.. Ps..fuel pump/battery/relays click when key is turned on so the basics were already checked leaving me to wonder if it could be due to the airbag n wires pretty much pulled out.
That shouldn't cause you problems like that as the clock spring is specific for the horn and cruise control and airbag operation. Nothing to do with ignition so I doubt that is the root cause.
Im about to buy the same steering wheel buy the guy selling it telling it won’t fit a 01-03 only 04-05 civic mine its a 02 LX . I been reading and found the 04-05 airbargs are different and would fit but with gaps. Not perfect! Is it true?
@@piercedasian mostlikely not working. I tried contacting sellers regarding about this. They say the steering column teeth were different from 7th gen and jazz. But i bought the 7th gen with srs airbag steering wheel it just works but need to diy the horn positive. Notes : airbag doesnt work coz its not for the non vti s.
it can be done for sure BUT you'll have to have to have the complete column wiring harness, the controls, a matching clock spring plus all the wiring under the dash. The actual steering column itself and the covers around the column are all the same. I've done a conversion YEARS ago and it wasn't too bad IF you could find a donor car that had everything you needed to do the swap.

I want to replace the Steering Wheel grip on my 05 EP3 Hatchback. The leather is scuffed badly, I just bought the car, not sure how the leather gets so worn out. I would like to replace with a new steering wheel but is discontinued by Honda in North America from what I found out so far. The part number is Honda 78501-S6M-A91ZC Grip (Red) (Leather). I would consider getting the Type R steering wheel, but most of all would like it to be in as new condition. Are there other similar steering wheels from different models fit? Would you know where I could find one. I live in Ontario Canada. Thanks 2002-2005 Honda Civic Steering Wheel Part: 78501S6MA91ZC
hmm that's a tough one. To be honest the honda ones are nice but I'm a HUGE fan of MOMO steering wheels. I have this super nice partial alcantara wrapped wheel in my CRX that I absolutely love. You should look into the MOMOs b/c I think they're awesome and look great and are well made. As for cross fitment of steering wheels that is hard to say b/c the spindle sizes vary from year to year and unless you can buy to try that its pretty tough to know.
don't be scared of the air bag. Use common sense when taking things apart. Disconnect the power 20 minutes prior to working on the system and don't damage any wiring and be gentle with the parts. As long as the air bag is from the same generation of car they're more or less interchangeable and if is just you removing your air bag and putting it back with a different steering wheel then there is definitely low risk you servicing your own car. Just follow my vid EXACTY and you'll be just fine.
For real your broke your nose yanking your steering wheel off? If you did that then OUCH! That is why I leave the nut on the steering column - to protect my face AND prevent me from ripping the clock spring apart.
Even if you don't have cruise control chances are you can swap the steering wheel out with one that does. You just won't be able to use the cruise buttons because they'll have nothing to connect to.
Sure easy. Pry the Honda emblem away from the steering wheel, undo the 19mm nut (mark the location of the steering wheel relative to the spline), pull off. Remove the metal ring around the two plastic halves of the column cover. Undo the 3 phillips screws underneath the steering column. Break the two halves apart :)
+Brandon Bassett there should be a connector tab on the hub assembly that the aftermarket wheel will mount to OR there will be a wiring tab on the horn button of the new steering wheel.

piercedasian the steering wheel from the 06 Accord that I got had differently spaced mounting points there the screw goes in the side of the wheel to hold the airbag in. Same shape airbag because it was the same wheel the frame of the wheel was just slightly different. I tried to bend the airbag mounts a bit to get it to fit but it wouldn't
ah that is possible although I am a bit surprised to hear that the airbags are slightly different. Normally in the same model line up many of Honda's parts are interchangeable and sometimes that is even the case across completely different years and chassis!
yeah higher end models such as the EX or the Si and the special edition/sport models came with the leather wheels. Civic LX, DX, HX models typically did not.
lol, not quite. The power of video editing. You should definitely wait for a bit before working on the car but after doing a few "retakes" of this video that well... I gotta get a job done and the battery was long disconnected by the time I started working on it :)
*The wheel is stylish and well made🔥 **allabout.wiki/006BK** Be sure to buy the appropriate installation kit for your vehicle as well as the wheel. The installation was a bit fussy as you had to hold a spring in place prior to adding the horn button, (and keep it in place as you finished). Grant could work on that issue a bit.*

@@piercedasian its automatic. And everything is connected
@@piercedasian My new unit came with an ignition switch attached. Should i use my old ignition switch like I did with the old immobilizer key reader or does that not matter?
Nice video, very in formative.
+mikeyzedify glad you liked the video. Thanks for watching :)
Can you use the original airbag when you change the wheel? Or did the new one you installed already have an airbag?
yep, you just swap the airbag module out. Just be super careful you don't damage or drop the airbag.
will this work with a 2005 Honda Pilot?
it would permitted you pull a steering wheel from a pilot and the steering wheel controls and buttons are the same.
Is there a way to remove the cruise control button in the steering wheel? By removing the harness?
you can remove the button simply by unbolting it and unplugging the switch connector.
What was the drill bit you used????
There was no drill bits used in this video. Are you asking about which socket that was used to remove the steering wheel nut? 19mm.
ok I cut the connector and there's two orange . and a green and a gray. I put them together but the hub.has only one red wire to go to horn on wheel
How do you get that emblem on your steering wheel?
what was the size of the torx screw that removes the air bag assembly?
Yikes, I couldn't tell you off hand. I think it was either a T20 or a T25 torx bit.
T30 on my 2005 ES9 (and in shop manual)
Will a leather steering wheel from any year EL (2001 to 2005) work on 7th gen Honda Civics, even on the cheapie Civics without cruise control?
I love these little tiny OEM mods as well, which I do on my old Maxima.
same question here. does honda jazz ge steering wheel will fit on 7th gen civic non vti-s?
What do i do if my steering wheel is locked? I cant unlock it my ignition wont turn. Please...
Insert the key into the ignition switch. Gently turn key forward like you're trying to start the car and while you're turning the key jiggle the steering wheel back and forth with some appreciable force. I'll bet you'll be able to "unlock/unjam" your steering wheel.
Great video, easy to understand. Good Job!!!
glad you liked my vid. Thanks for watching.
just take off the negative terminal and after done put the negative terminal back right?
That is correct. Disconnect and wait about 10-15 minutes for safety (allow SRS system to discharge) and then when you’re done hook the negative terminal back up.
@@piercedasian thank you i got it
How do you do the passenger side?
Can you elaborate by what you mean by the passenger side? I am assuming you're referring to the passenger side air bag? I haven't removed one on the 7th gen so I don't want to give you wrong advice on how to do it.
Yes, passenger side airbag. It's too bad you have not done one.
I have citroen xsara 2004, can i bring wheel from alfa 147 with airbag in my car ?
hmm, not likely but you'll have to consult with a Citroen expert on that one.
hellow i have a question for you.if i want to change the steering wheel of my car, with another with buttons control will it work?and if not what changes shall i do?
if your car didn't have the buttons on the steering wheel to begin with then you'll have to wire up the steering column with a wiring harness from a donor car.
What other years would fit for a civic 2004? I want to replace my steering with something better like what you just did. Please help.
hmm hard to say. I have heard that the RSX steering wheels will fit as well but I haven't tried it myself.
Janice Dizon ep3 wheels fit, acura es 1.7 leather wheel fits, even s2000 can work with a little modification. look on the 7th gen civic forum for detailed how to
Will this steering wheel including airbag fit to 2000model honda civic?
no it will not. The steering wheel swappability is from 2001-2005 civics BUT the process in how the swap is done is fundamentally the same for each generation of honda. i.e civics, accords, TSX, etc.
thank you very much
+agvaan ganbold you're most welcome! Thank you for watching.
thank you very much. Now i just hope i will find the part.
They're quite abundant. Local junkyards here have them often - moreso now than ever since these cars are slowly being junked due to age and mileage.
After I replaced my steering wheel. The horn stopped working and the SRS light came on. Do you know how to fix?
Hmm did you damage the clockspring assembly and did you make sure you reconnected everything together properly?
@@piercedasian Ah its fine cause I returned the car to my friend that I bought it from. Too expensive for a crappy civic😂
Im about to buy the same steering wheel buy the guy selling it telling it won’t fit a 01-03 only 04-05 civic mine its a 02 LX . I been reading and found the 04-05 airbargs are different and would fit but with gaps. Not perfect! Is it true?
What year is the car?
This car is a 2002 Honda Civic LX
question here. does honda jazz ge steering wheel will fit on 7th gen civic non vti-s?
I honestly don't know if that would work but I think it likely won't since the civic and the jazz are totally different platforms.
@@piercedasian mostlikely not working. I tried contacting sellers regarding about this. They say the steering column teeth were different from 7th gen and jazz. But i bought the 7th gen with srs airbag steering wheel it just works but need to diy the horn positive. Notes : airbag doesnt work coz its not for the non vti s.
interesting. Well hopefully you never need to use the airbag!
What should I do if the screws are stripped
hopefully you can extract the stripped screw and then use a tap and die to retap/rechase the threads. What screw is stripped?
Good video Bro thanks for sharing
Do you think the process would be the same on a 206 Hyundai Elantra sedan gls
The procedure will be very similar as cars are usually built using similar procedures and similar assemblies.
This is exactly why I'm upgrading my 06 CRV steering wheel.....
:). Leather wrapped steering wheels always feel better.
found a steering wheel from a 8th gen civic and was thinking about swapping it on my seventh gen
I can't speak for the fit of the 8th gen wheel onto a 7th gen but Hondas are well known for interchangeable parts.
Austin K good luck with that, and let me know if your successfully
what if you wanted to add a steering column that had audio controls for your radio could have been done
it can be done for sure BUT you'll have to have to have the complete column wiring harness, the controls, a matching clock spring plus all the wiring under the dash. The actual steering column itself and the covers around the column are all the same. I've done a conversion YEARS ago and it wasn't too bad IF you could find a donor car that had everything you needed to do the swap.
does it work on a 2006 rsx
same exact procedure.
Thank you
Where can I get the steering wheel?
My reply is super late but... autoweecker if you want it cheap.
You're the Canadian father I never had.
lol! You liked the video that much did ya?
does a 2003 civic steering wheel fit a 1998?
+Oscar Ortega If I can remember correctly you could make it fit but getting the airbags to work requires some mods to make it work properly.
Does anyone know what thread size the steering nut is
Honda threads are pretty standard. If I had to hazard to guess (and don't quote me on this). I think it is 1.25.
does it work on another car?
yep the general principle on how this is done is basically the same for most cars equipped with air bags.
Hi, really informative and helpful video, you covered every detail. I really liked that you centered the steering wheel to keep the alignment correct to install the new one. Thanks
2002-2005 Honda Civic Steering Wheel Part: 78501S6MA91ZC
hmm that's a tough one.
Applies to crv
applies to pretty much any vehicle as long as they come from the same model and generation of vehicle.
i wanna change my del sol steering wheel but im scared ima get busted by the air bag lol :(
don't be scared of the air bag.
JDM Delsol disconnect your battery and wait 15min then take ya time and follow the directions and u will be fine:D
4:56 i broke my nose lile that put a warning in
For real your broke your nose yanking your steering wheel off? If you did that then OUCH! That is why I leave the nut on the steering column - to protect my face AND prevent me from ripping the clock spring apart.
hi there we are the sam honda se, but ur car have cruise control my car does not have
Even if you don't have cruise control chances are you can swap the steering wheel out with one that does. You just won't be able to use the cruise buttons because they'll have nothing to connect to.
Any on know were I can see a video on remove steering Column Cover on 1989 HONDA CIVIC HATCHBACK civic dx no one has it
Anybody know If I could put a 1990 prelude steering wheel in my 7th gen ex
No you cannot put that on as the SRS system would not be compatible and the splines for the steering column likely wouldn't line up correctly either.
Where's the horn wire I'm using a aftermarket wheel
+Brandon Bassett there should be a connector tab on the hub assembly that the aftermarket wheel will mount to OR there will be a wiring tab on the horn button of the new steering wheel.
that car has the same steering wheel our 2003 honda odyssey has huh..
Now that you mention it that is SO true.
@@piercedasian the 2000 honda odyssey has the honda civic steering wheel kinda confuses me a little lol i might end up seeing about putting one of those on this van i think it looks better but that's just me
Fucked my self doing just this. Got the leather wrapped wheel from a 2006 Accord (same wheel design just in leather) and when I went to swap it the mounts for the airbag were just slightly different enough where I couldn't fit my 07 airbag in the 06 wheel SO ANGRY
what were the key differences between the two airbags? Can you not re-install your old steering wheel and airbag?
piercedasian the steering wheel from the 06 Accord that I got had differently
spaced mounting points there the screw goes in the side of the wheel to hold the airbag in. Same shape airbag because it was the same wheel the frame of the wheel was just slightly different. I tried to bend the airbag mounts a bit to get it to fit but it wouldn't
piercedasian but I was able to refit the old wheel with my airbag after it didn't work I'm returning the leather wheel I got unfortunately
piercedasian I did some research and I think the wheel I got was from an Accord V6 which has a different airbag
ah that is possible although I am a bit surprised to hear that the airbags are slightly different. Normally in the same model line up many of Honda's parts are interchangeable and sometimes that is even the case across completely different years and chassis!
My 03 civic came with a stock leather steering wheel
yeah higher end models such as the EX or the Si and the special edition/sport models came with the leather wheels. Civic LX, DX, HX models typically did not.
The torque nuts wont come off
Says to wait after disconnecting the battery...immediately starts unplugging airbag connection lol..
lol, not quite.

Grant could work on that issue a bit.*
what size is the torque for air bag
the airbag Torx bolts just need to be hand tight at around 8 ft lbs. Nothing crazy tight since the screws are so tiny.
