  • Hello lovers! As someone who doesn't like horror movies, I felt this one was safe enough to try out lol. And it was!! This is a classic for a reason, and Shelley and Jack are absolute legends. JUSTICE FOR SHELLEY'S UNDESERVED RAZZIE!! She didn't go through all that dumbass abuse on set to get that kind of disrespect! Also, Danny is the cutiest pie, but if my son was being possessed like that, I would've left him behind no hesitation... oh that's not- IN THE SENSE THAT--
Never thought I'd see two movies involving a murderous man trying to kill someone in a maze, while the actor has also played the Joker, but here we are! (I'm looking at you barry keoghan)
If you're delulu like me and believe you would've stayed sane, give this video a like, respectfully comment your thoughts, and as always, SUBSCRIBE!! Or don't. I can't make you. :)

PLEASE check out the sequel Doctor Sleep when you have time. It doesn’t get talked about a lot but it’s brilliant.

my favourite horror film and one of the major reasons for this is because it leaves you with more questions than answers. Until the ghost lets Jack out of the locked room you could all say that what all three of them were experiencing was all in their heads due to a form of Cabin Fever.

One advice to writers is "Only describe, don't explain." It leaves more mystery and thinking for the reader or audience to enjoy.

Check these movies out if you haven’t seen them: Misery(1990), Hereditary(2018), The Lost Boys(1987), and Friday the 13th(1980).

Misery is an awesome film (yes! Please react to this amazing film!) and The Lost Boys is 80's, a bit campy fun (it is in the horror genre, for those who haven't seen it).

Great reaction! And now you absolutely need to react to the sequel, Doctor Sleep. It's such an amazing movie, and it will give you a new perspective on what happened in The Shining.

I love that TH-cam included a Covid 19 info link in the caption of this video.
(Also watch Dr. Sleep (the sequel to the Shining) it’s disturbing but a great commentary on alcoholism amongst other things and the main villain is soooooo omg)

The woman in 237 was a guest named Mrs. Massey. She took her own life in the tub after her Young lover ran out on her. This was not mentioned in the movie just the novel. Each ghost has a story but Stanley Kubrick wanted for us to use our imagination. To this day, this movie is the most discussed in history.

6:10 - the exterior shots are from the Timberline Lodge on Mt Hood, east of Portland, OR and the interior was shot in a studio in the UK using the Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite as inspiration

my 2¢: the hotel itself is the evil entity, which periodically demands a ritual blood sacrifice. lloyd the bartender did not suddenly appear for no reason: when jack first sits down alone at the bar, he says "i'd give anything for a drink...i'd give my goddamn soul." this summons lloyd, who offers him his wish. jack sealed the deal & his fate by accepting the drink. the photo gallery at the end is the hotel's scrapbook of the souls it's captured. why 1921? after a job well done, the hotel places its victims in the settings used to capture them. everything haunting jack's family was from that era.
also too, i see some folks getting the "here's johnny" reference a bit wrong. yes, it's a reference to talk show host johnny carson, but it was actually delivered by longtime jolly cohost ed mcmahon, after the guest list, cueing johhny's walk-on at the start of the show: "... and now, ladies and gentlemen, heeeere's johnny!"

I love the feeling of dread and tension the film maintains right to the end. I think what makes this film so intriguing and timeless is that it doesn't have an ambiguous ending...it has an ambiguous plot. A lot of information and clues are dropped, but without any connective tissue. So the viewer ends up making the connections (and drawing meaning from it all) based on that person's actual fears. If you are scared of crazy people, it's about crazy Jack trying to kill his family. If you fear ghosts, it's a haunted hotel tempting Jack to do the unthinkable. The same with fearing possession, whatever.

Jack is a variation of the name John. The Johnny he speaks of is Johnny Carson who hosted the Tonight Show around this time. His sidekick Ed McMahon used to introduce him going "Heeeeeerre's Johnny!"

One thing I appreciate with Stephen King stories made into movies is he has an impressive amount of top tier directors adapting his work.
    -Kubrick did this.
    -John Carpenter did Christine.
    -Brian De Palma did Carrie.
-David Cronenberg did The Dead Zone.
    -Mike Flanagan did Doctor Sleep.
-Rob Reiner did Stand By Me and Misery.
-George Romero did The Dark Half.
-Frank Darabont did The Green Mile, The Mist, and The Shawshank Redemption.

Jack is just a version of John, but the Johnny he's referencing is Johnny Carson, whose catchphrase in his late night show was that very quote.

  • @samsquanch1996

Jack wasn't going crazy necessarily, well he was but not in a psychological way. The hotel was haunted by all the people who died in the hotel over the years, all those other people he saw in the hotel were ghosts, and Jack was a reincarnation of Grady who's ghost influenced him to go on a rampage. In the scene where he's talking with Grady, Jack is basically speaking to himself from a past life. Stephen King actually hated this adaptation, I haven't read the book but it's apparently very different from the movie. As for all the slow scenes, that's just how Kubrick's movies are, watch any of his other films and you'll get the same thing. Nice reaction vid btw!

Well, to be fair, I survived the lockdowns but I still barely leave the apartment. Only at night, when noone is around, usually carrying one or two large, heavy duty trash bags. Incidentally, since the lockdowns I don't think my neighbors have seen any women leaving my apartment. What I'm saying is: we all cope in our own ways :)

'Jack' is to John as 'Dick' is to Richard, or 'Chuck' is to Charles.
    Johnny IS Jack.
Why doesn't any one (except Anti-logic) connect Jack's mental state to Danny's 'shining'. Danny does know that Jack gets the job BEFORE Jack tells them.

The weird thing about this movie is that the "fake moon landing" theory kinda makes it make sense. Otherwise a bunch of these events are just too random for a Kubrick movie.

  • @genghisgalahad8465
    @genghisgalahad8465 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Yeah, this Kubrick-directed movie unsettles from the get-go and even disturbs throughout well before the "cray cray"...there's the television miniseries starring Jake Weber and Rebecca De Mornay that more closely hews to author Stephen King's vision. This film is, of course, brilliantly made then as "auteurs" go and all that. I don't know if I've actually seen it all in its entirety from start to finish... but now you know the spirit drink of choice here. 🏨 ❄️ 🏔 🥶 Oh, but I do like the kind old man friend with the shared gift! I recommend then Firestarter and Carrie! Both Stephen King adaptations! 🎉
