    He removed the mirror wrong and he didn't show you but two of the clips on the top backside of the mirror are broken off because it was removed wrong. To properly remove that mirror you lift up from the bottom not the side and use a long screwdriver in the center to pry it up there's a channel for that purpose!
    Please do not remove the mirror that way you're only break the clips! Again to properly remove it used a long screwdriver and find the channel on the bottom side of the mirror and use the screwdriver to pry the mirror up to unlock it.

      Good catch Greg. The way shown is a guarantee way to break the tabs off the top.

      You’re right, too bad this isn’t pinned, wouldn’t have broken tabs right now if I had seen this

      True. but some year model FJ may have different clip configurations.

    Pulling your mirror out in this manner will break off the guide tabs on the top back of the mirror bracket and they are both broken off the mirror he just took out. The bracket on the back of the mirror was designed to be removed using the screwdriver from the bottom method. The guide tabs aid in the positioning the mirror during remounting, but play no role in securing the mirror in place.

    Not a good video! Yep I broke the top tabs, not a problem, but FWIW there are tabs at 3 6 & 9 o'clock that you pull and the tabs at 12 o clock slide under or pull down as you remove them

    I bought DD LED and I followed this video instruction to remove the mirror. It did not break upper tabs but the actuator part came with the mirror. So I had to separate the actuator from the mirror and installed it on the motor unit first adding silicone grease before installing the mirror. The mirror part should be pulled out from the bottom not from the side I think.

    • @DavidSpreadmySheetsLombardi
      @DavidSpreadmySheetsLombardi 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup I did the same damn thing watching this video. Luckily I salvaged the actuators and mirror.

      Yeah, except you can see in your video that the top guide tabs are broken. You even said it's harder to get off the first time, because you break them the first time. You need to pull up from the bottom to avoid breaking the top guide tabs.

    Found this video, ordered the bulbs, put them in... THEY LOOK GREAT! I have found several other items that I would like to get from Diode Dynamics now that I have made my first order. The pictures and videos really help and make the whole thing easy. I did snap one of the clips off of the back of my mirror when I was removing it, I did it exactly as it was supposed to be done but I think that my mirror was just so tight that it was unavoidable, mirror still holds well with the remaining clips. Just a word of caution, watch this video before you do it yourself to avoid or minimize any potential damage.

    Evidently, it has never been taken of. I just spent the last hour working on my drivers side mirror. When I tried to get the mirror off it wouldn't come. I finally used a plastic trim tool. It pulled the whole assembly off. 😵‍💫 It was a bear trying to get the inner assembly back in place. I thought I was going to have to buy a whole new mirror. I finally got it back on and crossed my fingers hoping the power mirror mechanism would still work. It did! 😃🙏

    Are these the brightest bulbs available? If not, which are the brightest that you would recommend? Also what about removing the plastic filter membrane inside the light housing to improve brightness?

    • @diodedynamics
      @diodedynamics  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Michael Waters Yes, for this video, we installed our HP5 LEDs, our brightest bulb model available. Check them out at the link below! Removing the plastic cover in front of the bulb would increase your output, but we would not recommend leaving these bulbs exposed in the housing. If you have any additional questions, just let us know!

    Caution everyone this is not as easy as it looks and I'm here to tell you even if you do this the right way there's one thing you need to do and that's put tape over the mirror I learned the hard way I didn't do it for the driver side and I cracked the glass pretty easily and cut my hand when I did the passenger side I put an x with some packing tape and it was just as hard to get out but the mirror did not crack I ordered a new mirror for the driver side and before I put it on I will put tape on the mirror again I hope this helps someone

I know at the end of the month, when the credit card bill arrives) my wife will raise her eyebrows at the order but by then, hopefully everything will be installed and she will see the improvements and not make me return anything… hahah.

      +znovosad555 They add an extra source of light to the exterior and show off the width of the vehicle. From the factory, they are generally not bright enough to illuminate much, but our LED bulbs make them brighter and crisper. If you have any other questions, just let us know!
