Next episode in series: • Woodlands Lodge Hotel ... Hotel Inspector, Ruth Watson - Haven Hotel, Great Yarmouth. Series 3, Episode 7 (18 October 2007) (Channel 5).
Ruth is a marvellous mentor...without her expertise and encouragement..this lovely young couple would never have gotten over their huge hurdles...I truly hope they thanked Ruth...I didn’t hear one “Thank You” from this couple.
I truly enjoyed this episode and I was as emotional as Ellie when they got their 4 stars. These two young ones bit off more than they could chew, but with wonderful guidance and their own determination to prove the world that they could do it …. They did it. If I ever get to Great Yarmouth (I doubt it as I live in Sydney) I’d love to visit this place.
I absolutely adore Ruth! I'm sure from traveling around so much and all the work she has put in she needs a break. I'm sure Ruth is focusing on her own business.
I don't think her age is necessarily germane, only whether she would want to return. She doesn't seem the type to let anything stop her, especially nothing so irrelevant as her age.
Ages ago I saw a clip with Ruth and it just seemed so boring... But now I'm binging and in one of the last episodes with a very annoying woman - Ruth called her an "old bat"; so, she is growing on me as well 😅
Ellie's ambition and readiness to give the best to her guests are great qualities. She gave milk, fresh juice with whatever she had in a problematic situation. Shows how serious she is about what she wants to make of her venture.
Great yarmouth is not faded it is great for a family weekend or half term holiday, but there are definitely some improvements to be made if they want the entire holiday season.
I live near Yarmouth, and I kind of agree for the year it was filmed (2007). In 2023 it’s certainly undergone a bit of a renaissance since then and is looking considerably better now… even if the typical yarmouth clientele hasn’t improved much 😂😂
So many young people think they can do just because they want to. They have no experience at all. They get offended when they it becomes apparent to themselves that they don't know. One of two things happen. They either blame everyone but themselves or do what that young couple did. They grow into their dream . YaY! Well done.
I went on holiday in great Yarmouth for ten days last august and the weather was lovely loads of chip shops and a shame the wax works closed in town I miss that there are nice museums
The wax works went down, officially, as being the worst in the world. If you wanted a huge laugh, that was the place to go. It was absolutely horrendous. You just wouldn't believe how terrible the models were.
How people can be so irresponsible to put all that money on the line without bothering to do some hospitality courses. Could have saved 40 thousand pounds!! Lucky Ruth put up the money or they would have been done!
Rob's heart wasn't REALLY in this bed and breakfast plan. Ellie's the one with great ambition in this path. However they followed the advice of Ruth who IS the expert and they treated her as their mentor. They did so well and I hope they thrived. I have gleaned they are no longer there and have parted. A pity BUT if that is the case I imagine Ellie's now becoming top notch in this arena and Rob hopefully has found his niche. He absolutely worked his socks off.
Thanks for uploading these. I get why they aren't repeated, but why they aren't on My5 etc... is a mystery as every ad shown would be a bonus. Perhaps there is some contractual reason as these early ones were pretty much made before catch-up was mainstream...
I don’t know, but that 5 Star B&B looked like a nursing home… every last bit about it. Not very aspirational!!!!! I’d rather have the fruit in my bedroom than to sit in that nursing home cafeteria!!! 😂😂😂😂
Great episode. Good luck for the very likeable couples future. I hope they are eternally thankful for what Ruth did to guide them towards that 4 star. I never heard a “thank you Ruth” once!!! Ruth is a great in her field (I always watched her years ago) as is Alex Polizzi. They are both extremely knowledgeable and first class in their field. Individual delivery but that’s expected from different people. I’d never compare them as both are great. I’d like Ruth to do another but current series. I hope this couple are thriving in their chosen path. They dealt so well with the immense mountain to climb. Such hard workers. Are they still there today?? 🍀❤️🌺🤗👌🙏
Red cushions and fabrics are very English. My friend who grew up there and is an interior designer and architect suggests the red color is to bring the impression of warmth into the cool, grey, dreary climate.
This was a very food one. Ruth can be a bitch, but in a very good way. She is a true old fashioned (not old age wise!) hotelier. A very good one. Smart lady in her signature “great” coats. Well done my dear!
Very surprised that the 5 star had it's high rating. I wouldn't stay there. If I wanted to be surrounded by nick nacks and old furniture, I'd go stay at my nanas.
they've got to go to used furniture marts, boot sales, estate sales and pick up quality 50+year old, but well made "antique" wood furniture for cheeeeap....... then do the room contemporary...with a good mattress, clean, light paint and curtains colors, neutral floors....and tiled bathrooms....... it can all be done on a budget!
@@inhighspeed This show is sold to countries all round the world who pay money to broadcast it, hence all improvements are paid for. The same goes for "Mrs Forte" !!!!
One thing puzzles me a little. They were greatly in debt and it was getting worse. HOW on EARTH were they able to afford all the work done and furniture changes etc, to reach their 4 Star appraisal? I can't imagine the bank would have put forward such a huge loan, without perhaps, a solid business plan before him/her! They were strapped for cash obviously but Ruth's imput was paramount for this to achieve the 4 Star rating. I was just wondering how you conjure up substantial amounts of money!?
I thought the young couple should have dressed a little bit nicer it would be kind of strange to have someone delivering your breakfast to you wearing jeans. First impressions matter.
I don't like Ellie or Rob. They're rude and ungrateful - especially Ellie. They won't survive in business. And I doubt that their relationship will survive either.
Now, now. Ellie perrrr...haps, but Rob? What an amazing young man! I think he's just great, and what a catch. I imagine anyone would have some ups and downs during such a process, but how dedicated he is. Ellie is perhaps a bit young and naïve in her initial expectations, but I see many great qualities of earnestness and the will to succeed. I cannot agree with your assessment.
“There must be a shop somewhere called Horrible Bed & Breakfast Furniture.” Please come back, Ruth! We miss you.
They definitely sell those nasty striped bed spreads
She would be terribly old at this point, 20 years later on
@@VladmirPoopN She's 73. I'd hardly call that "terribly old."
This young couple worked really hard and learnt alot. They deserve success.
Ruth is a marvellous mentor...without her expertise and encouragement..this lovely young couple would never have gotten over their huge hurdles...I truly hope they thanked Ruth...I didn’t hear one “Thank You” from this couple.
Yes, they should be thankful. I hope it's editing mistakes.

Sadly it is now permanently closed. It had a name change to 78
@@dotwillcoxson5352 It's still showing up as family run on many booking sites. Perhaps they went down during lockdowns and sold up to others.
I miss Ruth i hope she returns one day :)
A Ruth v Alex episode would be awesome
I absolutely adore Ruth! I'm sure from traveling around so much and all the work she has put in she needs a break. I'm sure Ruth is focusing on her own business.
I asked Ruth on instagram if she would be back on tv and she said no
Pretty sure she's 70 mow
I don't think her age is necessarily germane, only whether she would want to return. She doesn't seem the type to let anything stop her, especially nothing so irrelevant as her age.
I met Rob not long after this, such a nice guy. Shame they didnt stay together though.
What!!! You gonna just say that and leave us hanging!! You HAVE to give us more tea.. please
So what happened with them and the business then? Pray tell....
They sold up two years later for a profit, due to family commitments, not sure why they split thow.
I think he dodged a bullet.
No wonder, she walked all over him.
i didnt like Ruth much at the beginning and really liked Alexandra Polizzi, but now Ruth is growing on me, shes an acquired taste!!
Same for me.
Ages ago I saw a clip with Ruth and it just seemed so boring... But now I'm binging and in one of the last episodes with a very annoying woman - Ruth called her an "old bat"; so, she is growing on me as well 😅
Rob is a sweet & kind man, he has lots of patience to cope with that personality. Great episode done by Ruth. Thank you for uploading this gem.
The color scheme is very nice, better than the typical navy, red & white. Love that they had happy tears for their 4 * rating.
Congratulations Ellie and Rob. Your guest house is just beautiful and your work ethic outstanding.
Those kids worked hard . I’m very happy for them. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️❤️💚🥰🤗
Poor Rob looks exhausted 🥱
Ellie's ambition and readiness to give the best to her guests are great qualities. She gave milk, fresh juice with whatever she had in a problematic situation. Shows how serious she is about what she wants to make of her venture.
Ellie's ignorance is best exemplified by her expectation of 5 stars.
She needs to get out and experience the world as it is.
@@monetbeck7015💯% agree 👍
Looked this up under Number 78 Great Yarmouth and it's permanently closed. What a shame for everyone involved.
Sad. It was a nice place, but it was not respected for the type of business it is. HOSPITALITY. It was not improved permanently. 😢
They sold up two years later with a profit I believe
They had no idea what they were doing. You can't just buy a hotel and think that's how to be a hotelier you need to have worked in the industry.
@@RJSCarpentryreally? Oh god I hope so. They seemed so nice and maybe nieve and not arrogant ppl not like some on this show.
What happened?
Well done to both of them and their magnificent drive. I hope that they have prevailed and are still around.... Well done Ruth.
Can't find any record of this place being open still sadly
I feel for Rob I think the pressure about the 5 star is too much
Hmmmn
Read that it’s now closed that’s sad

Elllie is v proud....I see her as the problem...Rob seems 2b working much harder than her and is much more humble and reasonable

I still see it online as 78 in Great Yarmouth. Hope they still are together.
they are
A great learning process. I hope they continued to become great hoteliers

Yes I thaught the same to much personal stuff.I would not warrant it five stars .Not some where I'd even like to stay.

Wonderful job done by all!
Ruth is remarkable!
Thank you 😊
4 and a half minutes in and I'm thinking, "Poor man..." 🙄 Big gulp when flat pack furniture mentioned. 😳 Glad it worked out for them. 😊
How can Ellie be so convinced about wanting 5 stars when she doesn't seem to have a clue what it means AND ENTAILS?!
Can't imagine being cold and dreary at the beach.....
Ellie running before she can walk a five 5️⃣ take time
I love the lounge and bedrooms apart from the green headboard
Great Story!
I hope that these two make it successfully!
This lovely couple deserve to be a great success in their ambition to gain 5 stars.
Rome wasn't built in A Day
Great work 🎉
It looks like they are permanently closed. I hope I am wrong.
I don't know how many of the hotels in this series even get 1 star. Why do so many of them have that hideous maroon red?
Red cushions and fabrics are very English. My friend who grew up there and is an interior designer and architect suggests the red color is to bring the impression of warmth into the cool, grey, dreary climate.
Looks like this place is permanently closed. I guess it didn't work. Sad to see.
Most likely Covid contributed to it's demise.

Rob looks beyond knackered! Ellie appears to handle pressure better, but they got so much more than they bargained for!

Best wishes! Beautiful!
Wonder if they are still together shame it's closed 😢
You need a lot of capital to refurbish and furnish a large B&B. Forget the stars.
Still, they did an admirable job, considering. Rob was a catch. I hope she held onto him.
Is it still going? Ive found info on it to 2019 but nothing after.
According to Google, it's now permanently closed 🙅
mike, I googled it and it says it's permanently closed. Ellie said it would go on and on forever.
@@keepitsimple4629 She was totally delusional.
Where did the money come from to fund the refurbishment? At the beginning of the programme there was no money, only debt.
I believe Ruth ponied it up. She's really quite generous and not just a nag. I think I'm getting hoarse.

They closed after 2 years.
36.00 did i hear correctly. The person with the hidden camera complaining that the kettle has been boiling for about two minutes now 🙄 😮

Not impressed by the 5 star Bed&'Breakfast sign. Didn't they learn punctuation at school?
I was disappointed at this couple at first, but I hope they keep learning and succeed. But Rob looks very tired. He's done a lot. [Edited for typo.]
I like that red striped sitting room, though the chairs were worn. And giving uncut lumps of fruit for breakfast ?!? Fruit salad at least!
3 months hard work!?…that’s nothing,….I’m amazed at the clueless amateurs out there who think hotels are easy!….no sympathy
I think that 5 star b&b looks awful
hreat

Sadly closed down. Not sure why as reviews were great . Rob seemed like a great guy but was nagged by Ellie. He looked exhausted.
They broke up I believe.
Turgid and dreary….is she describing the hotel or the owners?
Why wouldn't you cook breakfast for workmen who are staying in your premises?
And doing the work foc?

You may have a point. And Rob is cute too, so that excuses him a bit.
From the website, Guest house is going strong ...everyone ought to have a chance and they took one! With great advice...
@@YZ3_580That goes a long way, doesn't it. Yes! : )
I wish another series could be made with Ruth in it, but I can sort of realise why she won't. Music is terrible.

you mEAN YOU dont like his wife's personality I expect? or were you speaking of Ruth?
