Sensei's Starcraft 2 Protoss Mothership Rush

  • I was experimenting around with tactics that no one in the world would ever think of using (motherships?!) Yes, motherships. The term "mothership rush" sounds so dumb that I simply had to utilize it in the top tier Diamond leagues. I grew tired of the old zealot/marine/zergling rushes (I mean, any noob can do that).
This strategy is highly effective in 2vs2 scenarios where your ally can assist with lots of units (in case of an early attack via zerglings or mass marines) while you tech a mothership + stalkers. Not as effective with a Protoss partner as Protoss units are not plentiful + expensive.
However, once the mothership is out, you should have 8-10 units ready to attack immediately. This strategy becomes almost unstoppable. Your opponents are faced with either 1. Invisible units 2. Sucked into a Vortex - either one SUCKS for them! You can take on armies twice or even 3x your size via divide and conquer (while half their army is being sucked into a Vortex, you can utilized your cloaked units to pick off the other while they're trying to gun down your mothership - which will not be an easy task)
Downside - this strategy leaves you very vulnerable to players who perform a quick rush within the first 2 minutes of the game. 6 or 8 pool zergling rushes can slow this build down dramatically putting you at a disadvantage. It is VERY important to scout early to know EXACTLY what your opponent is doing before attempting this. If it looks like they're planning a rush, then I highly suggest not using this build as you will not have units until roughly 4-5 mins into the build. In most scenarios, opponents generally do not attack until they have at least 8 units anyway so this works the majority of the time. Be sure to have a good partner who masses early to keep both of you alive for the first 4 minutes.

I have some friends that are super high level SC2 players. My boy Torch goes over and plays in tournaments in Korea.
