    Your presentation was extremely helpful. Your video helped me learn some of the Arsenal capabilities I didn't understand. Thank you. There are so many negative reviews of the device, but I look at it simply as a tool to be used for specific applications, and for me, it has been a valuable tool. It completes many tasks in a tenth of the time that I have to do manually. The more I use it the more I can adapt it to be my photo assistant. Nice job!

    Thank you for the Video . About focus staking ( 5 Photos ) you only choose the nearest and the furthest point and arsenal does the rest ? It s not nesseseary or possible to choose 5 focus points by yourself ? And were are the photos saved ? phone ? camera ? both ?

    • @cobryson
      @cobryson  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      acneubauer Focus stacking can use up to 20 photos, and yes, you only set near and far focus boundaries. It is not possible to select all of the individual points. The stacked photos can be saved to the phone right now, but are supposed to save to the camera-that feature just doesn't work for me yet. Individual unstacked photos save to the camera like normal.

    • @cobryson

      I think you might be misinterpreting what Arsenal does. Arsenal creates its own Wifi hotspot that the iPhone/Android/iPad connects to, no matter where you are. You then do everything with the app-live view included. Neither device needs an internet connection to shoot photos.

    I really wanted to like this device. After countless broken delivery promises, I finally received it. I then spent several hours over several days trying to get it set up with inconsistent behavior on the part of the app or the device. I've finally given up. Even if I succeeded in getting it set up, everything about my experience with the product is that neither it nor the company can be trusted. Don't get me wrong, I people at Arsenal want to help. They just can't deliver, either in terms of supply chain or product reliability. The developer and users would be better off if they were to license the technology to camera companies with the resources to execute.

    Thanks for the video, I’ve been looking for something like this for a few weeks 👍🏻 It seems quite slow or is it only that slow where stacking is involved?

    • @cobryson
      @cobryson  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sure. It is slower than I'd like, but you have to remember that indoors, on a tripod, it tends to pick fairly long shutter speeds. This makes each shot longer, which adds up when you're doing stacks especially. The first non-stacked "smart mode" shot is an 8 second exposure, which feels really long but is the reason for the delay after I push to take the shot. Hopefully the speed otherwise will improve in time.

  • @PossMcLeod
    @PossMcLeod 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    What was the point of running a focus stacking test @ F14.1? The whole bloody scene would be in focus with ONE shot @ that aperture anyway lol. Surely a wider aperture would have let you see and compare the results better? And yeah, like many of the comments below, they really need to speed this shit up. Love the concept, and certainly less clunky than Helicon Remote that I used to use for stacking, but it looks unfinished to me. I've heard they've done some firmware updates since this vid was made, would be interested to see how much (if at all) it's improved.

    • @cobryson
      @cobryson  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I didn't choose the aperture, the device did. Yes, it's kind of silly that it chose F/14.1, but this was definitely older firmware. I've taken many focus stacks since then at more reasonable lower apertures. It has also speed up significantly and works better overall, though there will always be room for improvement. This video is now what, 9 months old?

    • @cobryson
      @cobryson  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      30 seconds? It was an 8 second exposure. I pushed the button at 2:24, and the click at 2:35 you hear is the end of the 8 second shot. The shot is available to view at 2:43.

    I've read about the device and first impression was this could be helpfull. after watching the video I really have no clue why I should buy this product. Maybe some (older) camera's don't have the functionality that the arsenal delivers but modern DSLR camera's have a lot of these features built in already. I use the Nikon Z6, fullframe mirrorles in combination with Nikon snapbridge and/or wireless remote control and have even more functionality than the arsenal offers. The auto bracketing is even much more advanced and quicker to set up. so maybe it's usefull for camera's who don't have these functions but that is than the only reason I can come up with.

How would you feel about ordering and paying for a product, based on the manufacturer's claim that your camera works with it, only to find out it does not work yet because they found it performed poorly? I would not have bought it in the first place but relied on their "compatible cameras" list, which still claims my camera model is compatible! I feel betrayed. That's a difference. The bracketed shots did not expose the window area at all well but then that could be the fact you only gave a 2 stop interval between shots so 6 stops over all, not enough stops of dynamic range for that scene, you should have gone 3 stops, you would have got a better dynamic range for the device to produce a better overall exposure. not sure I would like this device as I know what I am doing as a landscape photographer, I have been given one to try out so I will do an honest review on this gadget to see if it works for me as a professional landscape photographer and vlogger.

      Mine arrived three weeks ago (delivery to Germany), but never reached me at home. It was held up by customs, then impounded. The device comes without documentation about saftey features. The battery could catch fire or explode, Bluetooth or Wifi communication could cause inteference with sensitive devices in hospitals, airports etc. We just don't know. In the EU certain certificates are mandatory for electronic devices, and a whole lot more for devices using wireless communication. As far as I know, the same goes for the US and Canada. My device has been sent for testing, which will take weeks. If it fails the basic tests, it will be destroyed. I immediately informed Ryan Stout of all this, but have so far received no reply. So where do we go from here? Followers of this channel and would-be purchasers may be interested to know what might be awaiting them.

      True, it's not officially supported, so it doesn't show up in the App Store. I had to use the iTunes Link Maker workaround to get a link to the listing, and then it worked.
      Try this link from your iPad: itunes.apple.com/us/app/arsenal-remote/id1331166080?mt=8

      It is possible to install iPhone only apps on an iPad. The App Store displays only iPad apps on an iPad but there is a setting to change that and to have iPhone apps displayed instead. From there the search finds the Arsenal iPhone app and it is possible to install it. But it is still an iPhone app and its interface will be displayed 2x magnified to fill the iPad screen. This should work on any country's App Store.

    Don't waste your money, software is too buggy. Won't work with my Canon 7D and latest firmware. Fails to connect half the time and won't control camera at all when is does connect.

    • @highburian0
      @highburian0 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have the same problem. It connects but it's too slow and buggy. Every function needs 2 or 3 attempts to get it going. I too use a canon 7D. Outdoors it focuses but if even if a leaf moves it starts focussing again and this goes on all the time until you're tired and you've already missed the picture. Just OK for still images, but at this price? Give it a miss and save it for later. Too buggy.

      Bear in mind that some of these shots are 8" long-that's a significant portion of the delay. It tends to prioritize long shutter speeds on a tripod, so it will feel slower than you're used to, I'd imagine. Yes, it does have a handheld mode, but that isn't working right for me yet. Fair enough. Bear in mind that the first shot was an 8 second exposure-so it wasn't as slow as it looks. I also was apparently supposed to have the camera in Auto mode when doing an HDR/exposure compensation stack, which I did not. That might help the overexposed windows. It definitely does analyze the scene and adjust shutter speed, ISO, and aperture though-just maybe not as well as it could.
      When not doing an HDR stack, it's basically a given that the windows will be overexposed if you want the table/picture to be reasonably exposed. Arsenal can't do anything to change the dynamic range of the camera...
