    Hello again, Mike! Happy to see you like the colours and the paper. I absolutely adore the Oxford paper, the other notepad I sent is 90gsm, which is even better than this one in my personal opinion. But the features of this particular notepad make it a great alternative to a hardcover notebook, I find. There are a lot more versions of stationary from Oxford and a lot more colours from R&K, so I know what to send you in the future! By the way, the iron gall inks (as you have correctly deduced) should most likely change colour over the next few days, because the iron gall oxidizes to black iron oxide. They are also extremely permanent inks, great for archival purposes for example.
    Thank you for the video and the kind words, and have a great day! Cheers, Chris

      Hi, Chris,
      I am loving these Rohrer and Klingner inks! The Oxford paper is stunning, too. I like both the pads you sent (and thanks again) and will be reviewing them shortly. I really need to test the R&K inks on different papers as well - perhaps in the Tomoe River cahier I was using before.
      Those IG inks are lovely - I'm going to use them in my Viscontis next - with their titanium insides, they should be safe enough. I love those colours, though. THere's something about them that just feels "classy".
      Many thanks again!
      Mike

      No thanks necessary - you're doing a great job with recording and editing videos in addition to your job as a writer, and every video uploaded is a joy to watch. And yes, I get what you mean with the inks feeling "classy", both so understated and professional in colour, but with a traditional twist in the chemistry. I mean, Goethe, Haydn, Poe and many more composers and writers alike wrote their works with iron gall inks, so you'll be continuing a great tradition! (I'll just blatantly ignore the fact that they didn't have much choice at the time *ahem* :D ).

    Rohrer und Klingner inks are made in Leipzig, Saxonia, Germany. The company is quite old. In general, the inks are all well behaving inks with good flow. "Salix" is an iron-gall ink, but with some modern components that are to be said would not stain the pen. I like the greyish blue colour that stays after the ink dried on the paper, like you, I am remembered of Prussian Blue. Salix is a tree, btw. And, I admit, I just go crazy for the Alt Goldgruen.

      Many thanks for the comment, Fatime. And especially for the company history. I just love all their inks I've tried so far. Very good in the pens, and look lovely on paper!

    I love R+K. I've bought verdigris, smaragdgrun, cassia, aubergine, solferino. Tempted by Sepia but Herbin Cacao de Bresil just edges it out for me. Looking at the Marinda now as I want a bold red. And in the UK these inks are almost as fantastic value per ml as Diamine.

      Totally agree - R+K are brilliant, with a great range at excellent value for money.

    Another very interesting review, adding more to a growing list of pigmented temptations. After seeing your enthusiasm for the Akkerman's Dutch Master's ink, I absolutely had to try it but there was no place in Canada to purchase it. I did find a retailer in the US that had the line and I ended up getting the Ceruleum blauw van Vermeer and it is gorgeous. It's just a little darker than your Isreal's zeeblauw. These Rohrer und Klinger inks look very interesting. I may have to check around even though I already have enough ink to last a couple of decades by my estimation. Thank you Michael for keeping it interesting and entertaining.

      Yes, I had to order direct from Akkerman myself. I have a feeling that Goulet Pen Co in the US stocks some of their inks - I'm sure I've seen them mentioned in American blogposts. I'm intrigued about the Blauw van Vermeer, that looks gorgeous on the web. I also really like the look of the Delft Blauw - maybe one day I'll be able to justify the cost!

    Thanks for making this. I'm disappointed the ink I want at this time is out if stock at goulet pens. It's the scabiosa I think? It's a nice shading purple. Maybe I have the name right. Anyways, thanks for taking the time to make this video comparing the colors.

      Hmm. Two more colours I haven't tried. What is good to see, though, is that R&K inks are very good value. When I look at the appalling cost of Iroshizuku and others, I cannot imagine why people would pay 8 times the amount R&K ask!
      Thanks for the comment, Lovkyna!

    I don’t know the pronunciation of Blu Mare either, it’s not German, so that’s not my business :) What I can say is that your pronunciation on „altgold-grün“ (oldgold-green) and „Eisengallustinte“ (iron gall ink) was excellent. :)
    I have like 8? of these inks and they all are flawless from an objective standpoint :) And they are cheap to even very very cheap depending on where you buy them :)
    The Oxford paper (mine is 90 gsm) is my every day paper :)

    • @herrkeks8509
      @herrkeks8509 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Chipkov I usually buy them for similar prices :) 4,00€ for the normal and 4,50€ for the iron gall ones. But I think they raised the prices by 20ct last year, I think. Considering you get 50 ml of very good ink for basically 4€ in a decent bottle... That is a very good price :) I need to dig out Smaragdgrün (Emerald Green) and put it in my Lamy Pur with a 14k OB nib. :) Verdura is the ink I use when I want to write something in green to give it a contrast from the other writing on the papers I use for Summaries for University. :) Nice, true, bright green that doesn’t roast your eyes :)

      Until I started out looking at different papers, the very best, and I do mean the very best, was the cheapest Office Depot 90gsm notepads. No feathering, no bleeding, just really lovely paper, and very smooth. It's amazing that some firms can make really good, standard papers, while others seem to make blotting paper!

    When you flush the inks, how long do you wait to ensure dry? So that the inks are not slightly diluted?

    • @muditsood2814
      @muditsood2814 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      John Lepore Yes I have the same question since you are using an iron gall ink immediately after just a water rinsing

    • @tsherbs1309
      @tsherbs1309 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That little amount of water is no big deal for that large ink chamber, as long as he moves ink in and out of the feed a few times before the actual final fill. The lighting and color correction are much more significant in impact on the results of what we see. There is no need in these circumstances for the pen to be "dry" between fillings.

    • @writerlywitterings
      @writerlywitterings  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, John, and thanks.
      The short answer is, I don't really. There is some dilution due to water in the reservoir, but the amount is tiny and won't have as much effect on the video as, say, the inaccuracy of the video camera's sensor. I do tend to rinse, flush with clean water, and then dry the nib and feed, expelling once more while the nib's held in the microfibre cloth, so that capillary action will dry things out a little more, but to be honest, since I fill the reservoir almost full each time, the tiny amount of water remaining in the chamber will have little effect.
      Hope that helps!
      Mike

    • @writerlywitterings
      @writerlywitterings  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I really don't think that the remaining amount in the pen's barrel would have any noticeable impact on the result. I clean and dry as well as possible given my time constraints. Hope that helps!

    • @writerlywitterings
      @writerlywitterings  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks - that is my view too. Besides, I think it's more "real world" than a perfectly dry pen. I usually empty mine, wash it, rinse and flush, and then refill!
