  • After reviewing all 18 colors of Rohrer and Klingner on my blog, I thought it would make more sense to do one comprehensive RnK overview by video instead of 18 individual ones. Enjoy!

    Great review - thank you for showing all standard Rohrer & Klinger inks in one video! I am using Salix now for ten years and it never harmed a pen. I lovebirds for the color and the great shading!

    The name of "Blau Permanent" is not deceiving but very informative: it is permanent unlike your standard run of the mill royal blue which can be erased with ink erasers, hence this blue being "permanent".

    • @Gouletpens
      @Gouletpens  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Other ink brands do use the "permanent" name differently, so if people are used to that, it might be a bit misleading. But for R&K it does make sense. - Colin

      +The Goulet Pen Company
      Probably true indeed. It is just that since it is German that I presumed the conditions in Germany where my first post rings very true (-> deletable royal blue vs permanent "royal" blue)

    Very Nice review! Ps: Anecdote space: Mare is an italian word that means "sea". Solferino instead is an italian locality, famous for a battle between french and austrian troops.

    Hi Brian, just a random question, what paper do you use to do your little ink swab samples, it looks kinda like Original Crown Mill but if you could clarify i'd be very grateful, it seems to bring out the colours really well:):)

    I've been using Pilot's Syo-ro and when I pick up the pen after making a mark, it leaves a very small amount of that red sheen just in the spot where my pen left the paper. It's really subtle.

    Interesting to revisit this at the tail end of 2021. R&K now also have several document inks in the Dokumentus line that I really enjoy and have strong permanence, without being iron gall based as far as I know. My end-user research into this line indicates these are fountain pen friendly, with one caveat that you need to avoid leaving your pen uncapped for too long. While that's probably true of most inks, I'm guessing the Dokumentus series may be a chore to clean out of a pen if they've been left to really dry out. I'm only dabbling into this series so far, in cheap pens, but if they hold up well then I'd like to see how they behave with higher-end pens.

  • @Gouletpens
    @Gouletpens  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    It depends on the person, some people love it, some don't. I think in general, people like it though. Mainly because it's something you can only get with a fountain pen, ballpoints and gel pens won't shade!

    Oh man I didn't realize that Scabiosa and Salix were water resistant inks, I gotta grab those the next time I order. Scabiosa was already on my wishlist because I thought it was a pleasant looking color suitable for everyday use, but the water resistance is a plus. Currently Alt-Goldgrün is the only Rohrer & Klingner ink I own, but I should expand my collection a bit :)

      Yeah, they're awesome inks, just be sure to stay on-top of the cleaning schedule with them as the iron gall inks can get pretty bad if left in too long. - Colin

    That's strange. Just this week I bought the bunch because in the shop description it said waterproof and listening to your claim, that Rohrer & Klinger Zeichentusche (drawing ink) is not waterproof had me worried. So I opened the page with the the test swatches I scribbled just an hour ago and a water-brush and went over it. I couldn't lift any color. It didn't feather the sketchbook paper in the stylefile marker sketchbook. So yes, my quick test of Rohrer & Klinger Zeichentusche verified the claim from the online shop where I bought them, that the ink is waterproof.

    • @Gouletpens
      @Gouletpens  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There may be a bit of language barrier with the bottles, but I believe what you're describing is not what Brian was talking about in this video. Drawing ink may be waterproof (we don't carry it), but the writing ink (Schreibtinte) isn't necessarily which is what Brian reviews in this video. The R&K website (www.rohrer-klingner.de/?page_id=573&lang=en) distinguishes them as calligraphy ink vs writing ink. - Colin

    • @silkeschumann7261
      @silkeschumann7261 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    A great format. Now do it with the Diamine range! kidding ;-) Joking aside, might be cool to do it with the smaller ranges, like L'Artisan Pastellier, or the new kid on the block, Robert Oster.
    Need to sample-up on that alt gold-grun, cassia, verdigris, bordeaux.
    I realised after about 20 samples that I just don't like regular blue. Blue-with-a-touch-of-something-else like Tanzanite, Bilberry, but just not plain blue. That koenigsblau though...

      @Gouletpens  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Robert Oster is growing by the week, I think we're up to 40 inks now? Either way, we do have regular ink reviews on our blog if you want to check them out (blog.gouletpens.com/p/ink-reviews.html). - Colin

    hello, I am writing from Italy, could you please explain me what is the "SWABS" 1-2-3 and how it is done ? At least in the video it seems there is written SWABS but I may be wrong.....

    • @Gouletpens
      @Gouletpens  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question! The "1" is a single layer streak of ink using a cotton swab. We then start the second swab on top, but further down to create a second layer. And then we do the same thing with a third swab. This is to show saturation. I hope that helps! - Drew
