I loved them in this early period...went to e j korvette for their promotional appearance of first lp which they signed june left her lipstick imprint as it was my birthday. wish I had seen them perform.
I first saw them on the Helen Reddy show circa 1972-73 a summer replacement series. They were great and they were doing this. I remember Yes We Can Can as a hit in 1974. I want to see a video of that.
My wife grew up listening to early pointer sisters records and had always told me how good they are or were . Now I'm totally addicted to listening to them , I want to make every one I know sit down and listen and watch these early recordings PURE GENIUS !! Can any one tell me which one is which as they line up above please ? These girls were 2nd to non absolute dream to watch !! Thank you x
It's a medley of old songs (Swanee River,I Dream of Jeanie w/the light brown hair;), plus probably some original bits. Great arrangement though. They did sing Bie Mir Bist du Shoen on a guest appearance, but that was originally recorded by The Andrews Sisters (you can find lyrics for it) and That's a plenty is the title cut from their 2nd album (another regional oldie).
Where did you get this from!?!??? You are the king/queen of youtube for this!!!! Pointers doing jazz standards!??!?!?!???! So now that's jazz, country, R&B, soul, disco, and 80s pop!!!! They do not make female vocal groups like this anymore....mercy me!!!! Is that chick tapping in heels!!!!!! Bow down....
just an FYI,, had they stayed in this style they would have never made it as HUGE as they did once they went pop.. face the facts, pop makes money, not jazz... they needed to survive and like Tina Turner who went in a different direction once she went solo, and BOOM, her career took off, same with them.. GRANTED, this performance shows TRUE talent indeed and i LOVED it... RUTH hit some high notes as well and impeccable timing without looking at each other for cues, WOW WOW WOW WOW.. AWESOME
Hi Noah, Bonnie is my favorite too. That is mainly why I love 70s Pointer Sisters. Ruth is my second favorite. I also think they were more diverse in the 70s because they did the campy jazzy stuff and some R&B as well. I collect everything I can find. I have this and much more on DVD now. I also have a nice big picture collection that I've been building up.
WHO is posting this stuff! I've got tears streaming down my face. This is a part of my child/teenhood I kept hidden from everyone!!! Is this a possible DVD in the releasing! Come ON!!!!!
@gittahfiend The same sad way??? The Pointer Sisters became a huge commercial success. Even though I still prefer this old style a bit better, then there 80's style, they still ruled.
well why don't you site your source? Because, if you know anything both of ruth's kids are in there forties she had the last one in 1965. Anita has one daughter named jada, and june had one daughter named issa. So yor saying that issa is in her 40's okay buddy ;)
What vocal harmony! My father's generation had the Andrews Sisters. My generation had the Pointer Sisters. Just makes me wonder: Who will my children have? Or THEIR children?
Buddy I know, I reiterated my previous statement about Issa not being her child! I know that Ruth had Issa in 1978, and the twins in 1993. But thank you for feeling the need to "inform" me ;) But I know now.
It really is wonderful to see these great performances and hear these songs again! I'm wondering if anyone has "How Long (Betcha Got A Chick On the Side" which they performed on the Carol Burnett show just before it was released (circa 1975). Would love to see that again!
I know this is a little late (you posted 4 years ago, but, hey, that's the beaauty of TH-cam). I just found out Ruth was married to Dennis Edwards (from The Temptations [2nd line-up, after Dennis Ruffin left). I found some videos on here of their son performing as well. Nothing like the original lineup of The Pointer Sisters though.
Ruth only had one child with Dennis Edwards, a daughter named Issa who tours with her and a granddaughter now as the Pointer Sisters. Her son Malik and oldest daughter Faun were from her first marriage.
Who in the world would take e time to watch this artistry and hit "dislike"??? The energy is bursting through my iPad screen

wish I had seen them perform.
amazing jazz soul singers who never got the credit they should have.
The girls at their best! Thanks for posting. Can't get enough!
Rest in peace Bonnie!
awesome footage... luv to see them with bonnie included.
Still loving this!

Yep, that's the name. Check their debut album (circa 1972?) It's still wonderful. A perfect use of all of their talents (and vocal ranges).

Dancing around to it now!
God Ruth is awesome!
I love it!!! Thanks for sharing these rare behind the scenes look at the Pointer Sisters back from their Blue Note days.
As much as I like the Pointer Sisters (old style) as a whole, Bonnie and Ruth are my favorite voices...
This is quite different that their mid-80's music! I've never heard this before. I am so used to there only being 3 of them!

Unbelievable talent, when will we see the likes of this again? GreaT production, BTW, helps a lot.

This was a REHEARSAL? :)
it's Bonnie who left (1977).

The female Chambers brothers.and their careers went the same sad way.
What vocal harmony! My father's generation had the Andrews Sisters. My generation had the Pointer Sisters. Just makes me wonder: Who will my children have? Or THEIR children?
No one lol
Can't get enough of these sisters. Their songs are as fresh as when they were released.
Buddy I know, I reiterated my previous statement about Issa not being her child! I know that Ruth had Issa in 1978, and the twins in 1993. But thank you for feeling the need to "inform" me ;) But I know now.

@@orane3549 Thanx for the clarity. I stand corrected.
