It's likely because official boost games rely heavily on assisting players in holding forward along the intended path, while fan games tend to have 360 movement. It's just easier to go through narrow corridor in official games.
I love how many things were adapted from the original, the vines wrapping around into the springs, the infinite boost mode, the tricks and the boulder chase at the end, love the little animation about the vine in the waterfall chasm.
Having played the level itself, the design felt better than just about any official boost level I've played, and I ADORE Generations and Unleashed. It felt a lot like Jungle Joyride and Savanah Citadel
with some more technical tweaks and more consistency with the boost mechanic this has potential to rival sonic P-06. if you could make all of sonic rush like this of course.
One thing that I find interesting is how spacious the levels are when compared to the more compact level design of the official Boost Titles
