when I select all, the option of fragment becomes unclickable... only when I unselect all, then the option becomes possible.. but the shapes and picture become same colour i.e. if the shape was blue (default color) then the picture fragments but takes the same colour of the shape thus it disapear
Shape Merge tools are available from PowerPoint 2010 onwards. In 2010 version, however, it needs to be added to your Quick AccessToolbar, as it is not present in the ribbon.
Do check this video for help with Merge shapes option in PowerPoint 2010 th-cam.com/video/FfN9SjLefT0/w-d-xo.html If you have earlier versions of PowerPoint, unfortunately, this feature was not available.

Can I do all these using PowerPoint 2007?
Sir this option doesnt work sometimes. When I do the final step of fragment/merge, the whole image becomes blue.

My merge option isnt coming
It should be user friendly. Is it? I mean can i change the picture easily of the grid by clicking right click-> change picture option?
You can save the grid and use it to fragment your photos in different ways. Have fun!

1:34 union option is completely broken for shapes that are remotely complicated. No problems in this video though!
