Mackems are called Mackems because we used to make ships, and other countries/city's used to take them, WE 'mack em, they take 'em. It isn't an insult, trust me.
Makem and takem comes from the ship building on the wear during the war the original phrase was "We Makem they attackem"...the correct term of address is not "Makem" it's "Dirty Makem bastard"
Very true- the men of wearside did the skilled engineering and technical aspects of constructing ships-then they took them to tyneside and let the locals use their rudimentary skills on them-you know a bit of painting, basic woodwork like shelves and stuff, or plumbing, putting the bogs in that kind of thing- nothing too taxing.
oh dear the best team won-suck it.I recall 1992 when I worked at Cuthbert House by the Tyne Bridge, our office (with a mackem majority)had a huge red and white flag hung outside-so it was the first thing you saw coming off the bridge and we saw it in colour photos, they did'nt exist the last time Newcastle won anything, hence the colour of the shirts?
Its just not true. Ive been watching Newcastle since 1969 and its a great derby but no where near as big as there making out. I work around the country and ive been in other cities on matchday so ive seen firsthand how ours compares. Like the bloke on the video said most people outside the north east dont really know much about it. sheffield bristol portsmouth cardiff birmingham lverpool much bigger affairs.
76callaghan Erm...nah. It’s canny big. And I’ve been outside of the toon as well for 14 years, in Edinburgh, London, Portsmouth, Bristol, so I know what I’m talking about too. Bristol rovers and city comes nowhere near. Portsmouth and Southampton is an afterthought. Sheffield’s passionate but not big. Liverpool and Glasgow’s about all that you can say are bigger. It’s maybe on a scale of hibs/hearts. Tottenham/arsenal? Big but no passion comparatively. Nah, it’s definitely a big, big derby.
Mackem and tackem comes from Sunderland building ships so they were making them and Newcastle were taking them to sell Sunderland = Mackem Newcastle were the tackem not very hard to understand ffs and it's hardly a bad thing to call us. We never pinched the jobs aswell the ships were built in Sunderland ffs
Mak'em and tak'em was always telt to me as a young'n was Wearside speak. Never did get explanation why we said 'tek' like"I'm gonna tek Nana oot for Scran on Satda."
Its funny when the Scumderland fans were singing "My garden shed is bigger than that" when going past St James's Park - when St James's Park (even then) was quite allot bigger and better than the stadium of shiiiiiiiite.
3:47 bet that bus had the cleanest windows in the Nort East when the driver knocked off 😂🤣😂🤣
RIP Garry Speed
Love how they sing what a waste of money aiming at the angel of the north, but that's in Gateshead, not very bright are they? Haha
It's still a waste of money.
Literally everyone from Gateshead claims to be a Geordie
@@archiegordon9136 chance cause... they are. Banks of the Tyne, close to the Tyne etc
Gateshead is labelled Geordie territory and covered by Newcastle Council. Definite waste of money like.
Not very bright like are you?? 🤣🤣

"We're gonna piss in your shelter, piss in your shelter! We're gonna piss in your shelter!"
Gary speed loved a bath after the game
Sunderland fans singing to a statue😂😂
2 clubs with no success for over half a century. I think they take the bitterness of failure out on each other.

This isnt true, the mackems were taking the easy jobs you describe cause they werent capable of anything else. Still the case.

Rangers vs Celtic rivalry are bigger than Newcastle and Sunderland
Debatable
I like both 'cause I'm Newcastle and Celtic but I have bit more passion for Newcastle.
