Rode one of these mid 80s. I was only around 135pounds. If I stalled it a friend had to kickstart it for me ! Restoring one now.

I used to sit as a kid and look at the magazines and just lust after these bikes. Actually had a 1980 YZ50 that we eventually had bored out to a 60. These yellow Yamahas were the baddest back in the early 80s!!

I had a Yz 490 just like this one back in 99. Was in really nice shape. Had a 20 over Wiseco and a DG silencer. Other than that it was stock. Man that bike was a ripper and I loved it. God bless.

In Australia we got those YZ's in white and red (which l like better) but as l get older I'm liking the yellow and black more and more.
At least the tank doesn't get yellow as it ages ! That's a beautiful bike that should stay in that condition imo.. Museum piece 4 eva

Always loved going to see supercross in the kingdome in the late 70's early 80's as a kid right when I walked in and entered into the 2 stroke exhaust cloud and listened to the wonderful sounds I was in a trance remember my clothes smelled like exhaust I wouldn't want to wash them and loose that fragrance. It blows me away that the seat goes all the way up the tank. It took 30 plus years for that to happen again. Think about it. Through the 80's, all these bikes had the enormous tanks to smash your jewels, until the 2000's they started doing that design again. 🤔
