Dahlias are very easy to grow, and I find them to be extremely rewarding too! It's so cool to see a little tuber grow into a large plant with all sorts of amazing blooms. As a plant native to Mexico, dahlias don't like the cold. We plant them in the spring here, and we get to enjoy the flowers all summer long.
Dahlias come in all sorts of shapes, colors, and sizes. The same tubers can also give you different variations, so you can end up with some pretty cool surprises! Your plants will also change over the course of the season. As the plant get older, the size of blooms tend to get smaller.
No matter what variety you're growing, they like to be pruned, and they need some support. Those big blooms will topple the skinny stalks, so you can use stakes or netting to give your plants the structure they need.
Dahlias are gorgeous, and I believe that EVERY gardener can grow them. They don't require much water at all, and they can thrive in the ground or in pots. Just be sure to keep consistent with the watering!

I'm in 9b CA. I've had a couple dahlias in my garden for many yrs. I love that they are parennials, and I leave them in the ground. Plus, the gophers leave them alone :)

Of course, your dahlias are in bloom! Mine are growing in the heat, but not blooming yet. With any luck, I’ll have blooms before August 1. I don’t mind the ones that look shaggy.

First year Dahlia grower, I’m just starting to get my blooms in Norcal - today I spotted 2 harlequin bugs, 2 small linear clusters of 12 eggs. I got rid of them because most predators don’t eat them.

I'm up near Vancouver in Canada, our Dahlias are late summer/early fall blooms. Do you think I'll need to make any changes to my growing/caring processes too get the maximum amount of flowers? 😊 Love your garden 😍

Hi Your dahlias are absolutely beautiful. Can you tell me what the gorgeous gold and orange plant is that is growing with Natalie G? Looks almost like a lantana. It's at 6:27 on the video. Thx for this vid.
