(Note) I have an error to correct regarding my wording on the video, the freehub seal was designed by Bitex, the bearing seals were specified by DCR wheels, I got it the wrong way round, my apologies.
Excellent review, thanks. I've been trying to locate parts for a wheel build for my 1997 Litespeed Obed hardtail (my "instant grin" bike). Being 26", rim brake, and wanting to go tubeless, I was finding almost no options for rims and hubs. Thought I was going to have to go with budget Shimano Deore 610, until Spa Cycles pointed me towards the Bitex 103 touring hub. Your review and reading a couple of forum threads on Bitex have convinced me! Thanks again.
these hubs look fantastic. best part is they use a standard size bearing which can be had from quality vendors like NTN or SKF. no enduro garbage that dies in a month. after constantly working on a dt240 exp practically since new. 4th bearing replacement in 18 months always on that one behind the star ratchet i'm only buying shimano XTR or something like this in the future that is easily serviced with a real industrial grade bearing not the low end "bike" bearing sizes
I built 2 rear wheels with Bitex MTB. So far so good. They work well, have been perfectly reliable, and the price is very reasonable. Many rear hubs are just crazy expensive! Colored ones are nice. Black one is boring looking
Thank you for this. Sold me on using these with my Lightbicycle AM930s rims. It’d be awesome to hear what other product/brands you think make top products for working class prices. Cheers from Colorado
Hi Dave. On a different subject. The weather is terrible. My 2019 giant trance ebike is prone to water in the electrics. It won't turn off and other random behaviour. The connectors are below the motor. The low I/V ones are responsible, such as the control unit connector. I have had some success packing the connects with a dielectric grease, Nyogel 760g. Could you do a piece on this issue and give us your wisdom on this topic. It's a big issue for giant but I guess maybe other bikes too?
Hi Paul, if I remember rightly giant used a yamaha motor, Iv'e not had one of these in for quite some time, Im happy to do a video but will need to borrow your bike to do it, unless I get one in soon.
hi there, thanks for your video: i hope you can help me. I lost 3 little springs during the replacement of rear hub bearings. Do you know where i can find them?
Hi Dave Random question if I can ask, do you know if the mileage memory on a Brose motor is kept in the display or the motor I want to change my display but want to keep original mileage, I’m thinking it’s in the motor ?
Hi Dave, how would you rate the dt Swiss hx1501 boost 30 with the dt 270 hubs their half price at the moment would it be worth changing the syncros 1.5 clf revelstoke
Hi, Thanks for watching, as far as I am aware they are identical to the 240 internals, just different decals. bargain 57% off at wiggle. Just a quite note though, DT swiss change the ratchet system in 2020 but still great value even though. The EXP OS came in in 2020
Hi, Thanks for watching, good question and a very difficult one to answer because it depends on your riding style and how many hours its been running, as, a guide I would say a quick clean, stripdown and rebuild every 3 months if ridden twice a week, maybe more if its wet conditions.
These aluminium axles on both budget and higher end sealed bearing rear hubs need to be re-designed. Too much goes into these Pawls and Ratchet systems, but they are pointless when catastrophic failure occurs on the axle. I never had a problem with the Shimano cup and bearing steel axles in over 30 years. The problem apparently is due to the sealed bearing race causing wear on the aluminium axle surface. When torque is applied by the rider, the aluminium axle just snaps, due to the metal not flexing. I have had this happen 3 times with the budget hub lasting 6 months.

Are the bearing seals specified by DCR wheels only applicable to the hubs sold in the UK, or are the bearing seals the same world-wide? Thanks.
@@dancing8595 good question. did you get an answer?

Just about to build wheelset with their 312's. The hubs have a good reputation so I decided to give them a try.
Hi Paul, Please let me know what you think, and if you get the time, after 6 mts riding

Where is your workshop based Dave?
Hi, we’re based in Halifax.
Nice vid again Dave, cheers. Looks a decent quality hub. You mentioned they are not made in the UK. Any idea where they are made? Cheers
Hi, They are made in Taiwan
The first 26 seconds was so immensely british. Like Holy fuck brother, cool out
How long until the hub need to be serviced?

E-bike applications possible?
Hi, Bitex make a BX214r which is ebike specific however the hub we reviewed would make a good e-bike hub. Like all hubs servicing is key.
Looks like an Xero hub too......
