We hiked up Khao Ngon Nak last January after seeing Karl's previous films. Truly worthwhile for the views and achievement. Thank goodness we had no encounters with venomous serpeants. Kudos to John for making it all the way. A journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step... ...and Karl as Mr Motivator!
Yes, I remember you telling me that you had done it with Malee. If you can hack a tough hike together you know you’re a good fit lol. John was brilliant, we’d advised him to turn back the day before at the Tiger Cave Temple so that he had something left for this and it was the right decision. In all honesty it wasn’t until I saw a bit of his own video that I realised just how tough it was for him. The thing is that at night, for someone who doesn’t hike or know the location turning back would have been something we all would have had to do together but he completed the mission. Cheers Eddie
A fantastic video Karl. I love your fine production and editing qualities! It really makes you stand out! Excellent stuff! I’d love to join you and the boys on a trek one day!
Great to watch this from my desk in Pembroke power station. I used to paraglide at the mountains behind Phetchiburi, a place near Korat and down in Chumpon.
That sounds great. I was talking to someone else who loves to do that. I think I know a place that would be brilliant for it in Bueng Kan Province. Cheers
Hi Karl fantastic video again you do take us on some great trips, sorry to say I don’t think John should have gone but good on him he got there . We can’t wait for the next one and the views where majestic 👏👏👏🍺
Glad you enjoyed it Chris. John had been warned on advance and if you saw the previous video we had encouraged him to back off from a hike we did the previous day to rest himself before this. Having said that he really pushed himself and did well. Cheers
It really adds another element to it Brett. Actually I have hiked up that trail in the dark twice with the intention of getting a glorious sunrise and failed both times lol. Hope you are well, I might be up your way briefly in May. Cheers
it's been ages since I tackled this climb, but man, the views are still breathtaking! I Can't believe gibbons are hanging around here, I never heard them when I went. And I'm still waiting to spot a pit viper out in the wild. Awesome video, Karl!
Yeah. I heard one when I went up there with Nick too. I don’t think there are many up there but we definitely heard 2 or 3. I think only people who hiked up very early would be likely to hear them tbh. Good luck with you Malayan Pit Viper search Brian. Actually they are pretty common in the places they are found but mainly nocturnal. Cheers
Wow. The reward at the end, well worth it. John did well to make it. Almost mystical with the clouds moving amongst the mountains. Thanks for sharing Karl. Bonus snake footage.
Just came across your video and subscribed. I did the same trail with my 18 year old daughter about two weeks ago. We started at 9 am. Took us a good 2 hours to go up. Had to go at her pace. Going down was crazy, much harder than going up🤣🤣
Welcome aboard! I find it such a rewarding hike with those views at the top and it must have been a great day out for you and your daughter. Yes, I often struggle more on the way down, especially if it’s wet and slippery. Hope you enjoy my other content. Cheers
Geezers on tour! Love these vids Karl. I’m a 40 year veteran of Thailand and have never ventured on a trail without a motorcycle, that could change because of you three 😂
Cheers Keith. In some ways trail bikes make so much sense and you guys get to see a lot, I was just never any good at it. It’s definitely a slower pace hiking but has its rewards.
I'm so glad John made it this time, he must have been well pleased with himself. I noted your amusement when he nearly bit the dust sitting down on that rock lol....I hope to see the three of you on another hike. Good entertainment lads.
When I was editing the video I did feel bad about the number of times we laughed. We didn’t mean it badly, I just like to keep a positive attitude on my hikes. John did brilliantly and he really added to the experience and the video too. Cheers Mark
Some amazing views from the top, the hike looked like a serious effort and big kudos to all three of you for making it. The snake episode is certainly a future talking point in the pub and I agree with you, the MPV is a nasty little fkr that are ambush predators and will have a go as soon as you are in striking distance. I will be heading down that way in early May and taking loads of tips from your thread. Great episode and keep em coming.
I'd be interested to know if any of you guys are smokers, just curious. Brilliant hike by the way, beautiful scenery & wonderful wildlife sounds. Another for the list. Carl., you are a machine.
The 'best' day trip for me would involve twins, herb and burgers... and perhaps jaffa cakes!! Seriously though, I enjoyed the video Karl and well done to John you deserve a Wigan kebab now!!
Love that hike tiger temple os also good fun but a while different vibe this kind og hike is way more my style. Thanks for your great videos as always Karl🙏
My pleasure, whatever happens happens lol. That’s what I love, you can do the same places but every time it’s a different experience depending on the time of year, the weather and events that transpire. Cheers
A nice video...your two companions also held out bravely 555 I've also walked this trail twice, but I don't think I'd start in the dark in the morning. It's much more difficult in the dark. The most beautiful time is when the sun rises and the jungle wakes up, although it never really sleeps.
I’ve done it a few times, twice in the dark hoping to get a magical sunrise, failed both times lol. It is nice as the morning mist burn off in the first sunlight though. A beautiful hike I’m sure you’ll agree. Cheers
It’s actually quite complicated. The animation can be done in Google Earth Pro (There are some guide videos on TH-cam). Of course you need a gps track for the hike and I usually record my own. The most difficult part is ‘time-shifting’ the data on the gps track to remove any rest stops you had which would result in a very stop/start animation.
I did visit Hin Lad Waterfall back in 1988 on my second visit to Thailand. Tbh I can't remember much about it, there were no facilities there at that time, just a dirt track and then the waterfall. I doubt if we hike too far though and next time I'm on samui I will check it out and see how far I can get. Cheers.
Yes, that was definitely a bit of an adventure for Any, we’d only just started too! Actually John saw a big scorpion too. All strange stuff for us English guys. Cheers
It would seem that VO2 max training would be optimal for your hikes since they are all dependent on cardiac output, oxygen uptake, lactic acid tolerance, and acclimation to elevation changes. A hefty dose of creatine monohydrate (1.4 grams) with a Honey Stinger carbohydrate and fat load would assist as well. Great hike. I cannot wait to get there. Cheers.
do you remember colin humphreys from liverpool ??? thats me and i bought a load of memoabilia from you inc plastic guitars it was after you finished dealing and i bought what you had left@@karlsthailand
wondering if you are following paddy's sudden end to his bicycle across thailand episodes? I think you could do an amazing job with a video talking us through what he has endured, and the mental anguish deciding to pack it in. a sit down chat with him would be another option. "for he that fights and runs away, lives to fight another day." --sir John mennes,1641
Actually I met up with Paddy again briefly a couple of months ago before he started his bicycle mission. He says he wants us to do something "really crazy" together later this year. I will try to catch up on his mission soon, it did seem like quite an undertaking, especially at this time of year despite the fact that he has been working on his fitness recently. Cheers
athletes at some point in to a long race referred to catching their "2nd wind". I could never figure out at what point that actually was. about halfway through this one, I was cheering you all to catch your winds.

He is the number one on hiking in Thailand!
Thanks so much, but there are some really hikers here that aren’t on TH-cam. Cheers
A fantastic video Karl. I love your fine production and editing qualities! It really makes you stand out! Excellent stuff!

Much appreciated! You never know, I do trek with subscribers sometimes. Cheers
Brilliant video amazing wildlife sounds and the views Thank You for another great video
Glad you enjoyed it Mark. Cheers
My god that’s heart a stopping moment - it’s fantastic going into the jungle so happy we had Karl taking up
You really added to the experience...and the video John. It was great to be able to share your perspective. Cheers
Punishing early morning hike, spectacular summit views👏🏿👏🏿🥰

Cracking video.
John was brilliant.
Heres to the next ones 👍✊️👊
Cheers Ant. It turned into quite an adventure didn’t it with your own close shave with Thailand’s most dangerous snake. You’ll love the North buddy
Nice video! Cool hiking at night 🤙🏻
It really adds another element to it Brett. Actually I have hiked up that trail in the dark twice with the intention of getting a glorious sunrise and failed both times lol. Hope you are well, I might be up your way briefly in May. Cheers
Haha love the video Karl it was hard but very worth while thanks again for taking us along with you mate
You were brilliant John. I loved your little private video lol. Really added another perspective. Cheers buddy

Couldn't agree more! And yes, it’s kind of cool having the snake encounter as a side-plot. Cheers
Nice job Karl. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for watching Vince!
Karl, the climbing mashine !!! Kudos and much luck on your ways 🙏
Thanks 👍 That’s my favourite kind of challenge, the kind with a reward at the end.
Another great video cheers Karl
Glad you enjoyed it Paul. Cheers
Brilliant again Karl 👍
Thanks very much

Cheers Greg, yes, John did great, really pushed himself

Beautiful view from the top, best wishes to you and the lads im glad they put the ladder back😂 thanks for the video.👍
Glad you enjoyed it and yes, I was a bit too tired to scramble my way down off of that rock lol. Cheers

I just found you Karl :) your channel is very interesting and informative...
Many thanks for showing Amazing Thailand xx
Thanks and welcome. I love Thailand and think it's sad that so many people don't explore it more.
I'm coming over in June see you then mate What a great video.

See you in June Nigel
Great hike 👍
Thank you

Well worth the hike up Nick, just leave early (no need to go up in the dark though unless you want to) and take it at your own pace
I'd be interested to know if any of you guys are smokers, just curious. Brilliant hike by the way, beautiful scenery & wonderful wildlife sounds. Another for the list. Carl., you are a machine.
Cheers mate. None of us were smokers at that time but maybe John was in the past, not sure tbh, he might respond if he sees your question. Thanks

One of your best watches mate. I could feel Johns anxiety. I get the same in them situations but still on the bucket list
Cheers, yep, John was great, he knew it would be tough but completed it.
Great spot, my poopa-valve would b hanging out after that climb, well done and thanks for sharing.
My pleasure Steve. I do realise a large portion of my subscribers wouldn’t really want to do everything I do themselves lol. Cheers
Good one Karl
Cheers
Wonderful , to you all 🎉🎉🎉
Same to you! Thank you
Hi Karl , how you manage the route animation via google eartth or other application ??? its really cool
Wizardy. Looks great and Karl does all editing on his iPhone.

You should, the views is stunning and of course you don't have to do it at night. Cheers
@@karlsthailand early morning be better yes 😅

Yes, those steps really help on that section. Cheers
Brilliant❤
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed it
I was sitting 🪑 on my fathe in-law’s porch in Lopburi province last June , looked down saw a king cobra 🐍 gliding over my feet .
*Father
Very cool. I have seen them a few times but never over my own feet. Very impressive snakes. Cheers
You should try Hin Lad Waterfall Trail on Samui. I've tried it twice and couldn't make it to the top both times. 3rd time lucky?
I did visit Hin Lad Waterfall back in 1988 on my second visit to Thailand. Tbh I can't remember much about it, there were no facilities there at that time, just a dirt track and then the waterfall. Don't run out of guys now Kalle. Anyway good job all 3💪
Thanks Anders, it turned into quite an adventure
Was there already someone in the entrance ticket office ?
No, but they got their entry fee from us on the way down lol
@@karlsthailand ... ah, a outrance fee

✌️✌️✌️☺️☺️
Thank you
Well done guys. These are not hikes to be laughed at.
That hike is what I would call “Just tough enough “ but of course doing it at night and John’s fitness level made it tougher. Cheers
Nonsense, the biggest risk in Thailand is the Farang Trouser Snake.
The most dangerous snake in the world is the one you try either to catch or kill it.
Yes, most will slip away before you even see them.
karl are you the same guy who ran aa business in 1980s selling beatles records and memorabilia ??
Indeed it’s me. How do you know me?
yes i remember your ads in record collector do you still have any beatles or pop memorabilia left@@karlsthailand
