My take, fellow upfitters, the TRAIL is not a Sprinter killer or promaster KILLER, Not yet : 1-Not redesign involved 2-Marketing cosmetic lipstick...only We need: 1-better suspension oem, like liquid springs in the back for many needs and desires such as , better departur angle when needed on the spot etc. 2-AC ducted to the back running from the engine(not a one ton mini split), same with floor heating system, get the most of that powerfull engine. Or a total redesign of HVAC system optimized for upfitterd of class B+. 2-side flares fittings ready to install after market flares. 3-the current interior structure is optimized for cargo missions. Hence, redesign interior structure (at least 10 different types and options for upfitters) to optimize installation ...total redesign of interior cealing structure for drop down accesories such as Showers, drapes, kitchens, tables, storage, beds etc. Redesign the floor interior and exterior for things like, oem shower trays, water tanks(plural) that could fit in every unusable hidden space. 4-computer module hacking access to make the AWD more off-roaf capable such as sustainable silp diff. etc 5-detachable or option not to order the obsolete ,2000 year old design, backdoors (cargo doors not design for upfitters) to install our own back design set up, just imagine....Jesus, ala MadMax style designs back there. 5-detachable access pannels on the side for access to all, all utilities(a must have for upfitters). The engine has an access panel, i think. 6-Option of hybrid pronto 7-make the Transit trail lighter by 750 kilos. 8- 100 different options -Ford, if i may suggest, make a van design for upfitters...to have a true canvas to work on. I run a GMC Savana 2500 cargo van and it's comfort. Gas mileage is ok but would appreciate better mileage. I watch these presentations for ideas and love what I see in this van.
I love this ford transit just wish they had a barn door style doors similar to the econoline because the sliding door sacrifices a lot of useable room inside the van.
I just built out a van and these prices are fresh...Wheels and tires $5000 lift kit $3000 running boards $2000 body kit $1000 roof vent (plus instal) $600 dual batteries $400 prewiring $500 inverter $400 side windows $1000 each receiver hitch $500 cool running lights $250 shelf thing above seats $250 seat swivels $1000 ( yea... they cost that much... or more) spare tire plus mount with ladder $1500 It looks like the floor is done that's another $500 bucks... I'm not even going to add this all up... you get the point... A few more thoughts.... Ford credit will probably finance these.... try getting a loan on a Sprinter... (have loads of fun with that) There's this new thing out there right now... called inflation... it's not Fords fault every possible raw material just jumped up 10-20% I think this thing is perfect... I'd buy one straight away if I was planning a van build
People seem to not realize that to buy a pickup F150-250 4x4 your going to spend upwards of $50-$75k. I bought a 19 transit with the Quigley 4x4 brand new and did the conversion myself. I have close to $70k invested so far. I’ve been a van man since the day I was born. Dad says I was conceived in his 69 Econoline! Keep on trucken!
It won't do though. The two main things that people struggle with the most with vehicles like this is electricity and restrooms. This is just a big van with a fan on top (and even that's an extra option). It would need a built in solar panel system and a built in shower/toilet for it to appeal to van life people
the side step is wrong, there are alternatives like foldable plastic chair. what we need is a good frame for easy install insect screen on that sliding door. and frame for raiseable roof, so extra room on top can encourage a family of 5-6, not just 3 or 4. that side step is hard to clean. u need power spray to clean it fast. and additional cleaning that consume a lot of water and effort.

There are limitations on what we can keep on a driveway. and of course this is important for floor planning. also, when it this going to be available? I could not even get a F150...
The Ford Transit is produced in China by the JMC-Ford Joint Venture between Ford and Jiangling Motor Corporation, which also produces the Ford Everest and Tourneo (the luxury version of the Transit) in China.
Ford is trying to cash in big time on the 'van life' craze and I can't say I blame them. It's a popular trend but, at $65k to start, they've priced this van too high for most people to afford, especially considering that we're entering a Fed induced recession that will make it even harder to sell a niche vehicle like this. It's right up my alley, I love it, and I could probably talk myself into buying one eventually, but I'm skeptical that it'll stay on the market for long. If sales fall way short of what Ford is expecting, they'll kill it in 2 or 3 years.
I could see Storyteller purchasing them off the shelves. However, the end user might not know unless they run the VIN or if the manufacturers literature is in the vehicle. It would leave the opportunity for stealership type pricing from up fitting groups.
Love STO, but their prices are crazy high. I was almost about to put a deposit down on the sprinter classic version when it was 150k and then it went up $20k and I noped out.
What is a “slider style, running board?” Is it a rock slider or a side step? Can they support the weight of the vehicle? Are they mounted to the frame? Can they be used as a vehicle lift point for off road recovery?
Definately not a rock slider and will not support the vehicle. They will need to be replaced if you want to take it seriously off road. Just a fancy step that looks good.
Nice, but what about prioritizing building the vans customers already ordered. My 2022 order was canceled few month back and now I'm waiting for my 2023 order to go to manufacturing. More than a year and they keep pushing the build date.
This is what I thought this vehicle was for, but it's useful for someone like me who wants to design a van to meet my two mobile businesses. Cargo freight and massage therapy.

$66k before adding all of those tasty options. I like the standard AWD, lift, tires and exterior cosmetic touches that only come on the Trail edition. The above driver storage shelving is cool as well. It would make a perfect overlanding vehicle.
Wonder how the subframe or suspension differs from the E-Transit. Might be able to swap some stuff over to make that happen with just the OEM components.
Why doesn't ford just build this and start the line of class B rv. 4x4 with all these features I would buy it and I haven't had a ford since my 04 f150 that almost killed me
We're at a crossroads where I can't invest a lot of money into a gas powered vehicle because we're at the end of the road for reliably affordable gas, probably forever. But I can't count on all-electric range, charging infrastructure or portable charging capabilities yet either. Even a hybrid would force me to have some faith in gas prices over the coming decade. I don't. I'm staying on the sidelines for now.
@@TheRanger2112 The GOP can't do much about gas prices except encourage a little more production. And they would definitely drag their heels on electrification. thanks for mentioning Vandoit. never heard of them but really like their modular design. problem with most van designs is small size and these Vandoit designs solve this by being very modular. Best design so far
Yeah interesting Ford has the 3.3 V6 and hybrid combo in the Explorer but it’s never been used outside of that application. They could also probably and easily adapt the 2.7 V6 to the hybrid. Wonder why we haven’t seen them branch out in that respect.
Being it only has a gas engine I think it just shows manufacturers are out of touch with what people who would actually want this type of vehicle. Basically just a quick money grab attempt. Any other powertrain would have been a better option. Electric, diesel, or even a hybrid. Awd is nice but a true 4wd system would have been way better. It’s a decent attempt in a market that is basically vacant. But you can tell they did the minimum they thought would intrigue enough buyers to justify vs fully committing.
