I did @77yr,,,not a Leica but a Canon R5 + the holy trinity of RF glass,,,almost too sharp for my portraits. Oh well, it's all fun.

I’ve seen many Fujifilm photos that blow me away and I’ve seen bad photos taken on a Hasselblad. It really is about technique and slowing down, having purpose in the photo. I wish I knew this earlier before switching brands and dropping tens of thousands of dollars. Can you take better photos with more expensive gear? Maybe marginally. The client won’t really notice. But with the money saved, you could go on vacation and document some awesome travel experiences with the current gear you have.

Actually, when Fuji didn't release an XPRO4 last year, I got mad and did purchase a Leica, a Leica Q3. I wont go back to Fuji. I am telling the people out there that say new gear doesn't make you a better photographer. Well it does, and I will explain why. When you get a new car, you drive it as much as you can on weekends, have fun driving around the city or out into the country, just you and your new car. Driving is fun and your skills are developing once again driving this new car. The same goes with a camera, the love is back, your crusty old camera just doesn't excite you anymore and so you don't take it out anymore to make photos. Bring on the new camera, you shoot anything and everything, you are out more with it, new angles, looking for different light, newer compositions.....your love for photography is enriched once again and this love is what compels you to photograph more thus refining and increasing your skills and making you a....................'drum roll'........Better photographer!
Ok, I was a Leica nay sayer. I own Canon 1DX with L series glass, Sony A7 series cameras and G class lens. The Q3 just produces photos that neither of the others seem to produce. Is it a Leica look....I don't know....but it sure looks different in a good way.
Don't pretend to own something you want.......work, work and work a lot more to obtain it. Its a simple equation.

I shoot both Leica and Fujifilm. Leica is solid, unflappable. However, My X-pro3 (& 2!) never fails to impress me with what it can do. Like you say, with the right lens choice/subject/light you can get almost identical results from both systems.
It's the 'almost' in that sentence that preys on us as photographers though, and whether the difference is worth it.
    It isn't....

Great video man. I've actually been considering "downgrading" from my fuji x series to a FF dslr for similar reasons

One camera made me a better commercial photographer, the Fuji GFX 100S. It translated perfectly what i was doing in film for my personnal work into my business. It allowed to grow and secure bigger clients. Now i bought everything I ever wished, the 50R, the 100 II and my 3 leicas with the R lens series plus the Q2 just as a everydaw toy. Cameras are tools, get a better tool, do a better job.

Definitely right about manual focus, I have an Hasselblad, Mamiya 645 and Pentax 67 adapter for my fujis. I can rent any lens and use mines. Can have very specific looks for each subject.
      Good video, keep it up!

Haha damn! Homies packing! I’m with you though. If a camera is the right tool, it will absolutely make you better at what you do!

@@Christellezphoto I've been putting the work for 15 years now! Done at least 10 with Canon which is my opinion the most reliable and versatile system. Allowed me to save up for my first GFX, from there it was exponential.
Also a camera inspires us as photographers. You can emulate the Leica look with a Canon but the joy of using a beautiful camera is unique, you just want to shoot with it and produce fine craft.

I think people confuse the idea of loving Gear and Tech with the idea of appreciate the feel and experience of the tools. Loving the latest and greatest is not the same as appreciating the refined quality of a given camera, which is why I do love using certain cameras, sounds like you’re in the same boat! I hope I get my hands one the kinds of beautiful tools you’re using one day!

Interesting subject Chris. I don’t believe that an XYZ camera is going to make “me” a better photographer, but I would definitely enjoy photography more. After photography school (many moons ago) I shot film for over 35 years, when I decided that it was time to come into the 21st century and go digital (film was getting too expensive for an amateur/hobbyist), I bought a Sony A7 something, I didn’t like it at all, when I traded it for a Fuji X-T2 it was incredible, it was like my Olympus OM-1 MD on steroids, I upgraded to the X-T4 simply for the better (or more efficient) battery, I did give some thought to the X-T5, but I came to the conclusion that my iguanas and/or alligator shots wouldn't look any better, I have no interest in getting and X-H2 or X-H2S, I’ve “gotta” have those dials. Be well.

If I want a Leica, I will stick a Leica lens on my Sony A7CR. If I want a Voigtlander I will stick one of their lenses on my Sony body. If I want the best camera ever made, I will pull imine out from my drawer, the famous Nikon F2. Nikon, following WW2 made a better Leica, made better lenses than Leica and revolutionized the world of SLRs like no other camera. Leica is like a Coach bag, an accessory, a status symbol, a name that is now sporting the heart of a Sony, lenses from Tamron or Sigma, and is now a shadow of its former self.
No matter the brand of camera, the operator is the one making the photograph. Stop with this my camera is better than your camera nonsense. It's sickening.

That’s some truth right there! And exactly what I’m getting at too, your intention behind your work is always going to be more important than the camera. Shoot like you mean it, camera brand be damned!
