    This is the best Bible study that I have ever experienced. I am learning so much; so grateful to know about the Pontifical Biblical Council but also how that, too, was changed. So grateful that he is teaching us what the Fathers said about Scripture. Most of the Bible studies or sermons that I have heard the priest refers to exegesis (or eisegesis?) texts written by protestants or by modern-day "theologians" or personal opinion. After I discovered Cornelius A Lapide I wondered why they did so. God reward this priest.

    If only I could say this was now the age of rest in my life!! Possibly you could have a kind refuting of Fr. Robinson's (sspx) book. It would be like the Dominicans vs the Franciscans. Thank you for your defense of the 6 days of creation with siting.

      Did the SSPX text contain something other than 6 day creation? I didnt think SSPX priest would teach modernist/darwinian creation interpretation.

    Loved this lecture! Personally on the geocentrism idea I have always found the idea of Hell being the dynamic center of the universe to be a particularly good meditation. Hell is often described as a place in which you cannot move and you are crushed and stuck in whatever position you fell into Hell in. Now if Hell where the center of the center of mass in the universe all those rotating forces and gravitational pull of the stars and planets in a certain sense "act" upon hell thus creating this intense physical pressure from all sides and putting in effect the "weight" of the universe upon those buried in Hell. Making Hell the axis upon which the universe turns and also making an argument for the idea that Hell was not created after creation because of sin but that it always existed according to God's design and was simply a good place to let the damned be punished. I think this fits with the idea of an unchanging God as well.
    I like debate too though, this was a wonderful lecture, I plan to listen to the rest!

      I was thinking the same thing along the symbolic lines of being crushed under foot. Also, Hell was created as a prison for fallen angels and represents the solid foundation of God's justice, without which nothing else could exist.

    I would like to comment on the matter of the center of the universe, and whether hell being in the center would be unfitting or present a theological problem, that there are a number of ways you can conceive of the center of a thing. One of these ways is like the center of a shape, where the center is the least noble part, and the limit is the most noble. In this way it is most fitting for hell to be in the center since hell is the least noble of all things in creation.

    Fr Gordon, I wish we can meet and have a discussion in person. Thank you for taking the time to have a bible study about the book of Genesis. Even Saint Thomas Aqiinas is human and may not have considered that the light of the first day is not of a visible light, but a spiritual light as in intelligence; God is Light. In Genesis 1, you never mentioned that act of creation occurs only when God speaks (His words become reality). With that in mind. the first two verses "[1] In the beginning God created heaven, and earth. [2] And the earth was void and empty, and darkness was upon the face of the deep; and the spirit of God moved over the waters." are the narrator's lead in to set the stage for reader for the story in chapter 1 of the book of Genesis. Genesis 1:1-2 is not part of the created work God performed on day one. Since God did not speak in the first two verses, nothing was made into reality when the author said that God created "heaven and earth" only its place and position were identified. Genesis 1:1-2 only prepares the reader for how God created the heavens and earth out of the nothingness of darkness, and that He pre-selected the location for heaven and earth, and that earth was void and empty, and the spirit of God moved over the "waters", which is the fluidity of space in the universe.
    So, this clearly agrees with the first order of creation on the first day when God made the angels He said, "Be light made" and "light was made" (He created angels of light, which are intellectually enlightened beings without bodies). The light He created on the first day was not the luminous lights of stars, for as we know there were no celestial objects or bodies to reflect or produce light until later, and since there was no planet earth on the first day there must be another explanation of the darkness needed to end the 1st day. The holy angels ("who is like onto God") is the light of day, and the fallen angels (followers of Satan), the demons of darkness are whom He separated the from the light to end the first day (era of time for the angels).
    When God said "Let us create man in our image and likeness", He was not only talking to Trinity per St Thomas Aquinas, but He was also speaking to the Holy Angels of Light that He created on the first day. If God was only speaking to Himself, then which of the three was talking? He obviously was not. God wants the participation of the Holy Angels not only in His creation of man but also in guardianship of man throughout his life tribulation and is a preview of Fallen Angels' involvement in the downfall and in the redemption of man.
    I can go into greater details in a face to face conversation. Deo Gratias

    Dr Robert Sungenis I believe teaches that the Sun is the geometric center of the universe but the Earth is the dynamic center around which everything rotates. In that case hell wouldn’t be spatially at the center. Just my two cents.

    • @markcalvo3554
      @markcalvo3554 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dr Sungenis believes that Genesis 1 only talks about Physical Creation for he sees "light" on the first day as the CMB. This is wrong. "Be Light made" is the creation of all the Angels, of which by their choice the Light of the Holy Angels were separated from the Darkness of the Fallen Angels (demons), end of day one.

  • @dorothyrcalvo
    @dorothyrcalvo ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Fr. Gordon, I thought you said "Be Light made" is more accurate command from God in Douay Rheims than (phrase at 2:47 time) "Let there be light" in NASB, which implies granting permission to God.

    • @johnwright1447
      @johnwright1447 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      "Let there be" does not imply permission being requested by God, it implies a command being given by the will and grace of God. This is merely an older form of speech, commonplace in Elizabethan English, for issuing commands in the imperative. "Be" in English is not in the imperative voice. "Let there be" however, is. In modern English, we might say, "Make it so" or "So let it be done"

      @zatoichi1 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@johnwright1447 Exactly. And the original commenter might not realize that phrasing originated in the King James translation. My message to him would be to not read the NASB. KJVCE, RSVCE or D-R are the best.

    In Genesis 1:1-2, Moses, the author or narrator, is preparing the bible reader with what is to come. Genesis 1:1-2 are statements setting the stage for creation of which the earth's position was chosen in darkness upon the face of the deep (empty space), and spirit of God moved over the waters (Holy Ghost of God the Father and Son provided energized particles in the fabric of space). Creation occured only when God spoke, and only then His words became a realization. Genesis 1:3 confirms the Roman Catholic order of creation, in that the Angels (Light) were created first "be light made" and then by their choice He divided the Light (Holy Angels) from the darkness (Fallen Angels or Demons), end of day one. With that said, we have no idea how long in time the Angels existed in the deep darkness of void empty space before God enlightened them with His intent to place man above them. Angels required the existence of space and time to adore God. Heaven was created on the second day and Earth was created on the third day.
    The length of first, second and third days are according to God's beckoning and therefore inconclusive to our standards, but the term used by the author of Genesis defines those days as 24 hours. In the fourth day, God created two great lights to govern the day, the Sun, and night, the Moon, along with lesser lights, the stars, which settled into the 24-hour day-night cycle of today.

    You could say hell is the center if we were actually a sphere but for thousands of years they believed the earth was flat & that would actually align with holy scripture right? God separated the land from the waters above? We are supposed to believe holy scripture as doctrine so why don't we believe that part?

    • @Tony-cm8lg
      @Tony-cm8lg ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually nearly everyone for thousands of years knew the Earth to be spherical and that’s well attested by the Church fathers as well. People try and point to certain Bible verses that seem to describe a flat earth, but when you read them in context of the book and the common phrases of the time period (like “four corners of the earth” didn’t actually mean the earth had corners but refers to the cardinal directions) as well as looking at the original language and what the original words actually meant (ancient Hebrew is an especially small language so there’s a lot that can’t be translated well) then you see that there’s not much evidence for a flat earth attestation in the Bible. At least that’s my understanding, which could be wrong.

      I recon they think that intelligence is an attribute that must be demonstrated with rapier with and speedy mental processing displayed.
      Personally I agree with you that none of that conveys God's mind and wisdom very well. It seems more particular to the individual doing the speaking,..that it is mostly about their need to demonstrate intelligence and the perceived demand of the listeners to have intelligence demonstrated...but truthfully it takes away from the comprehension of many.
      I often slow down the speed of the play to understand it better.

    When we talk about the 'days' of creation in Genesis, there are two ways to look at it. Some see them as literal 24-hour days, while others, like Concordists (like me), see them as representing much longer eras. For instance, the 'fifth day' could signify a period in which marine life evolved over millions of years. It's a way to bridge the biblical narrative with our understanding of Earth's history through science. Father god is science and wants you think on your own. This theory vibrates as truth in my heart when I think it. How could he not rest after all this work!? ...after all limited comprehension is all I have.

    • @kmjacik8904

      There is only one way to look at it. God created the world the exact way he said. He spoke it into creation in 6 days and rested on the seventh. God does Not lie nor deceive. Only man lies and deceive. God's word is TRUTH!

    If the heliocentric model was true and the Biblical Earth as written were false, then please explain how the Sun being created on the 4th day makes any sense to a critical thinking Catholic when I'm taught that "G"ravity hold us in perfect orbit at 66,600 miles per hour...while God continues creation...seems like wizardry & deception to me.
