i’m very new to fishing and a frog+braid has muscled me through so many trees and bushes and getting lit up while you’re plopping it along is an amazing feeling. fav type of lure for sure
I have fished for 52 years. Fish will bite just about anything when feeding. Some fishing spots, the fish one bite at specific times. You can fish for hours and not get a bite or follow. Soon as the fish come on, they bites for awhile than just stop, nothing. That's why it's called fishing, not catching.
True - feeding windows are pretty common. We try to convince ourselves that all kinds of tiny "secrets" are the key to hauling in loads of fish every time we go out, but even professionals have plenty of days where they can't catch a thing.
I’m just now keying in on the perfect time to go out to the private community lake I live on with top waters and what not, however, its literally any time that I can throw in a worm and get a bite, makes little sense to me
There’s a story I recall about a Taoist sage that was said to be so righteous fish would hook themselves to feed him. I always thought he just really learned how to fish a few nearby lakes perfectly.
Great vid! In the last couple days filming vids I’ve had three hits on the frog and all three got away lol. First two the bass hit more of the edge of the frog the one today I just didn’t get him. I even asked people to leave a comment on what I can do to increase my hook up ratio. Tonight I see this in my feed and I’m like ohhh I need to watch this! Thanks for putting it together!
Thanks. Yeah frog fishing can be frustrating if they keep short-striking or if you set the hook too quickly. The bigfoot frog I mentioned in the video is my favorite and most successful frog, but I wish the paddletail legs were a bit shorter to increase the hookup ratio.
@@FishingwithNat it sure was fun even though I didn’t catch anything that day, it was also a learning experience. I didn’t know the popping sound around lily pads is the fish sucking the bottom of the pads trying to get food from them. At least that is what google says.
The medium-heavy carbon is my favorite rod. I'll pick that over my medium-heavy St Croix any day, although I usually bring both with different types of frogs so I can switch easily.
This is an older vid now but i’m just now really trying to get into fishing. this morning i bought a frog and a chatter bait with a good trailer. this vid helps a lot and realizing i have a few similar spots on my lake im looking forward to getting out there. i think my main struggle is when i should be going out. most sources will say a different time then the last 😅
I've caught fish on frogs at all times of day. Bass and other fish will often head to deeper water and heavy cover during the brightest parts of the day, but that could still be in 2 feet of water with thick lily pads, duckweed, etc.
Missed several today with a lunker hunt frog. Long realistic legs make for fantastic action, but like you said, also cause the bass to first strike the legs, then suck the body in. I immediately jerked the rod to set the hook on 2 blow ups. And they both missed. I kept trying and I finally realized I wasn’t letting them take the body. Finally ended up getting payback and catching 2 on the frog to end the day. Learning how to use the frog has been a years work in progress but I’m finally seeing results by using them.
Awesome - everyone misses some on the frog now and then. Even with years of experience frog fishing, it's hard to wait when you see your frog get demolished!
@@FishingwithNat for sure, to my surprise my very first cast with my new frog actually started with a blow up right when it hit the water. After that miss it was trial and error for a couple minutes wondering if I’m even jigging it correctly. I think I’ve got the hang of jigging it and retrieving it. Anyways, I also noticed when they just slurp the frog in without a blowup, it makes it easier to not instinctively set the hook immediately. Watching it just disappears off the top really helps me think before I start doing anything
Biggest issue I’ve had is getting so many hits but it’s almost like the fish doesn’t even take the frog and ends up missing it altogether. Thanks for all your help I’ve caught many bass since I’ve cut down the legs! Thank you!
@@FishingwithNat well I tried it for the first time today. Didn’t catch anything but got a couple bites and I gotta say even gets bites on a frog is satisfying getting hit top water is so cool

Hello hows your day? I want to share you This is a message from your loving God. God is a loving God and want to save us all. God dont want anybody to suffer or have a hard life. Meaning of life is love and that's what God wants. Thats the meaning of life. If we would take care and love each other that would solve all the problems. But world is not like that. World is a sinful world. God dont destroy this world but we humans do. His immediately ready if you want to serve him. God will show you the right path what leads to life. Its a path of love. God made us and have eternal love and mercy. This world is not what God wanted. But he gave us free will. You can choose good or bad. Thats why he send he's only son Jesus that we had mercy. Jesus is God too because he is God's only son. Now this world have went to very wicked and our God is crying. So many peoples are on the path of destruction. World have allways been wicked but now is extremely bad times going on. God want's peoples to come back to serve him and he wants to give forever life and happiness. God is a God of love, mercy, justice and a judgment. He love us peoples as much as hes son Jesus. There is one big lie going on this world. Its an evolution lie. First please think this thing. Why all the fruits, berrys and vegetables taste so good? Anybody can go to own home kitchen and try to do the same taste. Then look up please and watch those extremely beautiful birds. Do you really believe birds came from dinosaurs? We need very light bones, right size, correct shape, a bird's beak and feathers. And the same time birds are very beautiful. I send only these two questions to evolution professor and nothing came back(Why berries taste so good and how those little birds survived without wings) Then they say evolution gave animals camoflash to survive. Well if we look black panther. They say it's black because it's a night-time hunter and that black color also give it protection during night-time. First thing: evolution dont have brains and it gave that black color they say. Second thing: Please think how many shades of colors are and all animal have to be black. Third thing: Then they say there were many panthers with another color also and the best color was left. Because it's the best color in the nigh time. This is a lie also because: if you think like evolutionist's: the animals system also have to know to do black anymore. Rabbit is also brown when it's a summer and white when it's a winter. We need intelligence to do that. They say also evolution develops animals or Humans what kind of element we live. Why then fish have gills and whale have lungs? They say first came the first cell and that was finally a fish. And then finally fish came to land and it was frog or something. But thats inpossible because gills should also transform to lungs under the water. They brake their own logic when they say that. And how about a whale. Whale proves also God is real because it have lungs. Theory of evolution tells everything started from ocean. They also say that plants came from ocean and thats why we have now. Thats a lie because: The plants have an underwater pollination system. If something comes to the beach it will die for it. And they are breaking their logic again. Fish and other water animals and plants belong to sea. Only our loving God can create life and everything what we humans and animals need. People can try to think but the deeper we try to dig the more lost we are. We cant ever create life from nothing. A simple car engine also needs its maker, parts, fuel and the right structure to work. I had health problems about six years ago. Finally it was so bad i thought im gonna die. My heart was beating fast. My blood pressure was high. Then i started to lose my energy. When i try to walk my legs felt heavy and my stamina went very bad also. Then i started losing my sleep. Eventually i crashed a little into the road and asked God and Jesus to help. Finally I started to run in the toilet all the time too. Then the very awful thing came. I lost fastly almost all my ability to sleep and I started to loose my weight. Blood came out of my nose and I started to lost my hairs too. I visit hospitals and private hospitals too but they couldn't help me. They gave me beta blockers to my heart and finally medicine to my high blood pressure too. I wanted to get inside the hospital but they refused to take me in. In private hospitals they couldn't understand why they dont take me in the main hospital. Finally I contact to other country and I asked can you take me in the hospital. Then they asked where are you here? I told im in the other country and I need a help. But they told me we cant take you in because you dont live here. So I can tell you money didnt help me. Later I told my family im gonna die very soon because I felt completely awful. Finally I asked again God to help me. Then finally my Mother saw one Angel vision and three Jesus vision. After that it took few days and my health came back. I got my sleeping back and my heart started to calm down. I started to gain weight. Blood pressure went back to normal and finally I got all my hairs back. This Is very short version what happend to me but I was close to death. God Is real and loves us very much. When you begin to seek God you Will find True love. Read the Bible too please because its a perfect book. Thats how you know God Is real💕🙏. Read what Jesus told because its perfect talking💕🙏
I was fascinated by the number of these words that had a variant usage from other regions or in literature. Others (like blatherskyte) are archaic or out of usage in the language in the main but preserved in Appalachian English. I also got to wondering about the etymology of the words. "Stogging" is a word I encountered somewhere in the past (probably a book). It wasn't until I watched this today that it occurred to me it could easily be a modification of "stalking." Don't know, but world love to learn.
Hey man i got my frst fish on reel I cut my frogs tail and seperated my hook above the frog Thank u man I saw this video morning 10 am I went to river at 3.45 I got the fish st 4.30 pm Love u man
I had luck trolling these on the surface relatively close to shore. Very slow speed, near constant twitching to imitate frog swimming action. Even when the lake was turning, they still came up and took it.
Hey Nat, I just recently purchased a couple of the Scum Frog Launch frogs to add to my collection, I'm looking forward to getting out on the water to try them out. As soon as the weather breaks that is. I love frog fishing with my 7'4" heavy/fast Victory rod paired with a Tat 200 7.3:1, it makes pulling them out from cover a little easier... Tight Lines!!
@@FishingwithNat yes it is... we're expecting highs in the mid 50's on Thursday here in the suburbs of Detroit. We have some ice on Lake St Clair in the shallow areas, a lot of open water elsewhere though. Then it's going back to winter... lol I plan to take advantage of the warmer temps and get some things done to the boat on Thursday...
just got one of these along with my first baitcaster and i'm having trouble casting it far. so i'll stick to the spinning reel cus it's easier for me. great video man 👍🏽❤
They should have just a tiny gap between the hook point and the frog body. If they are bent up too much, the hooks could start to catch more junk in the water.
I watched my buddy BURN, I'm talking BURN BURN like as fast as he could reel, and I've to this day, NEVER seen as many boils as I have that day. Thanks jay!Jay! Edit: IMO, this bait cannot be fished wrong.
Yeah sometimes a super-fast retrieve with a frog bait (or any bait, really) can cause an aggressive reaction bite from a fish that grabs it without even thinking first. Thanks for the comment.
Please share the perfect recommended size of frog for given size of snakehead 🙏 Also perfect lb (pound) of braid for given size of snakehead and will not break even in maximum fight back
Snakeheads have large mouths so even a small snakehead can take a large frog. If you're targeting snakeheads under a foot long, a small frog is probably better, like a Lunkerhunt pocket frog. The weight of your line is more about the cover you're fishing near. If you're tossing a lure into heavy vegetation or brush, you'll want 30lb or heavier. If you are staying on the outside of heavy cover, you should be fine with 20lb braid.
That's plenty heavy. If you go any heavier, I would suggest moving to braided line. Monofilament lines above 12lb get pretty stiff and become hard to cast. They also develop a lot of memory coils.
I bought a hollow body frog to try out, got hit on a huge bass but lost him cause I had a medium light rod. After some research I picked up a medium heavy rod with a higher gear ratio so I can pull him out of the weeds if I get him again
I just bought a tuktek kayak and my buddy and I are gonna hit a big pond near me. I just bought some 65lb braid and I'm gonna throw it on my 7.0.1 baitcaster. Wish me luck
I think frogs would work fine in estuaries or saltwater marshes, but I would not use a frog in open saltwater. They work best in shallows near vegetation.
True - spreading the hooks a bit will increase hookup ratio. It can also result in more junk getting stuck on your hooks. It really depends how thick the vegetation is or if it's a lot of small floating vegetation like duckweed.
@@Dooliegzzzshow A faster gear ratio is nice to get the bass out of the vegetation once you're hooked up. I use a few spinning combos with frogs - one has a Diawa Regal LT 2500, one has a Pflueger President XT size 35, and one has a Kastking Speed Demon.
I have been trying a frog lure. It’s white with the stringy type of legs. I’m not getting any strikes. The lakes I have tried have Lilly pads but are pretty shallow. Maybe there are just no real frogs around? Could the color be wrong? It’s so weedless and easy to cast so I’ll keep trying. Any more tips? I’m in new jersey.
At this time of year, you'll want to slow down a lot with the frog retrieve, or move toward another type of bait. Topwater fishing really slows down in November unless you're in the south.
Hmm I have a question should you use this in a clean river and deep and should you use weight with the frogs when I use mine without weight when I try to caste it it doesn't go very far
The casting distance is probably due to the line if you're using heavy monofilament or fluorocarbon line. Frogs are best through with 20-30lb braided line. They can be effective in clear water but in that case, mostly at dawn and dusk and in shallower water. Don't use extra weight with them - it will mess with their action and your weight will get stuck on plants and things in the water.
40lb braid should be fine for just about any frog application. As long as you keep the fish close to the surface, you shouldn't have any problems with that.
I like having a mono leader too, or even fluoro. The little bit of stretch is nice, but the bigger reason around here is that I could get a strike from a pike or musky at any time and they will slice right through braid.
Yes, but if you get a bigger one on or it runs into some vegetation or other stuff, you'll have trouble getting it back on light line. If you're fishing in pretty open water, you should be fine.
8lb test on a spinning rod will work with a small frog in mostly open water or very sparse vegetation. If you hook a large fish near heavy vegetation, chances are it will run in there and you won't have enough power to pull it out.
@@FishingwithNatI decided to throw my frog today after only catching baby bass. I followed your idea and threw it in some sparse duckweed and lily pads… and sure enough, a fatty 5 pounder hits my frog and starts pulling drag. After a long fight trying to keep it from diving in the weeds, I landed him. New pb. Thanks man!
I dont know if you still read comments here, but what if the frog has a hole where the hook and (in my case) the spinner/small spoon is portruding out of? I tested in in my aquarium, dragging it back and forth, and it gets fill up with water and eventually no longer buoyant.
All frogs have a small hole where the hooks come out, but the hole is small enough that the air inside the frog is trapped and water doesn't get in. But if the hole gets stretched during twitches or if another hole develops, the frog can lose its buoyancy and you'll have to squeeze the water out every couple of casts.
You can but you will miss a lot more strikes, and the fish will be more likely get you caught up in the vegetation because of the huge amount of stretch with monofilament. I have caught fish on frogs with monofilament though if it's all I have with me at the time.
That happens all the time after catching a fish. You just need to rotate the hooks back up to the top. You may have to squeeze the body a bit or pull the legs up and over the hooks again. It's hard to describe but if you give it a try, you'll figure it out.
There are various frogs with kicking legs that make popping sounds, or there are popping frogs that have a small scoop on the front and they spit water when twitched. I show both of those frogs in action during the video. You could search for "popper frog" or "kicking frog" online and I'm sure you'll find some options.
@@FishingwithNat wow im so happy you replied. I have been tying the modified uni as well. The trilene, uni, and now double pitzen are my first knots i have learned. Love the vids!
Spinning reels have lower gear ratio ? While this may be true most spinning reels bring in just as much line if not more per spin of the handle and since their drag is not dependent on the gearing ratio (a baitcaster with high gear ratio can make less drag than one with low gear ratio) you can have both high gear ratio and lots of drag, making it idea for frog fishing
Thanks for the discussion. You bring up a good point, and even the diameter of the spool can also impact the recovery rate of the line. I agree that spinning reels can be well-suited to frog fishing, and I use both spinning and baitcasters for frog fishing with equal results.
If it's mostly open water where you're using it, 12lb mono should be ok. But the hooks are pretty large on a frog and they require a lot of force to drive them in. And frogs usually work best near vegetation (where real frogs would hang out).
Replacement arrived!By the way, I did forget to mention that the original lure did have a decent strike however as most anglers will attest you can get a hit th-cam.com/users/postUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 and fish will hang on and release lure. I used the replacement lure yesterday and ran thru a Shimano Waxwing, Kastmaster, Bobber (set to sink). I found the does run deep (I casting on the flats 3.5'). Make sure you adjust your rate of retrieve and rod tip angle (up) to prevent getting snagged on bottom. Used it a couple of times and action was very lifelike (looked like local bait fish for trevally), craftsmanship very good....however eyeball fell out. I asked for replacement and it is on it's way! It was very easy to change out treble to single inline hook.
@@cdbz20 Don't give up on frogs. Bass go nuts over them but sometimes the fish just don't want to eat, or maybe the spot you were fishing wasn't holding any bass right now.
I just bought my first frog yesterday. It’s a rubber hollow one but I noticed after the first or second cast, it started sinking because it was taking up some water. When I realized it in, I squeezed it in a little water came out of a manufactured hole in the bottom. Is this normal? The rest of the time it kept sinking below the surface, unless I realized it very fast. Is that what I am supposed to do?
Many frogs have a drainage hole and they don't usually fill up with water unless they have a crack in the rubber or a fish grabs it. If a fish squeezes it, it will create a bit of a vacuum inside and that can suck some water in. If you do end up with water inside, you can squeeze it out just like you described. And believe it or not, frog baits will work underwater too, so all is not lost if you notice that your frog is slowly sinking.
50lb test is only necessary if you're fishing really heavy vegetation in an area with big heavy fish. I usually have 20 or 30lb braid on my frog rod. Around here, a big fish on a frog would be a 5-6lb bass, 8-10lb bowfin, or a big pike/musky. Even in thick lily pads, I'm confident that the 30lb braid will do what I need it to do.
They are related but they are different species. Northern pike have horizontal bars on their sides while muskies have vertical bars (these bars can be faint sometimes). You can also flip the fish over to look at its lower jaw and there will be 5 or fewer holes/pores on each side of the underside of the jaw on a pike, or 6 or more on a musky. The tail also tends to be pointed at the tips on a musky and rounded on a pike. Both species are more common in cooler climates and hang around aquatic vegetation.
Fish on a weekday! 😆 Seriously though, look for quieter bays where the motorboat traffic doesn't stir things up and pile up chopped vegetation. And use a thick leader so the pike and muskies don't take your frog.
@ryancastner1407 I always use leaders with frogs because there are so many pike and muskies around. In the south where those species aren't very common, braided line tied directly to a frog isn't a problem. That said, a stiff leader of fluoro or mono will affect a frog's action a bit, especially if you're trying to do a walk-the-dog action. I still stick with using a leader though.
I have a genuine question: I always hear that you need a heavy powered rod for frogging. Is this solely due to vegetation, or does it have to do with the double hook (meaning more power needed for hookset)? I fish with hollow-body frogs in places with no vegetation with a Medium Heavy rod. Will setting the hooks with a frog lure harm my rod at this power?
It won't harm your rod. I've caught bass on a medium-light with frogs before. But a medium-heavy or heavy rod gives you more leverage and power to get that fish up on top of the vegetation. The large hooks do require some good power to get a good hookset, but the biggest reason for the heavy powered rod is to drag the fish out before they wrap you up in a ton of plants.
I mentioned bending the hooks out a bit if the hook points are touching the frog's body. That can help with hookups. Also giving the fish a second to take the bait in before setting the hook can help.
A word off caution. I have an older log cabin on a small lake. After an idiot working the lawn shorelines by tossing his frog on shore and hopping it into the water my Labrador caught it as the moron tried to jerk it away. It was a nightmare resulting in a trip to the veterinarian and anesthesia.
Thanks for the comment. That sounds terrible. Even casting near the shore (still in the water) when a dog is nearby isn't a good idea. Sorry you had to deal with that.
@FishingwithNat Thanks for the acknowledgment.I use frogs in the pads all of the time. I used to do the same thing with Uncle Josh pork frogs, which I guess dates me.
I would set the drag pretty tight so that you can get a good hookset. Just keep it light enough that you don't break the line on a hookset or if the fish wraps you up in some plants.
They can, but you will have a harder time setting the hook with the high stretch of mono, and it will be hard to drive the large hooks in with a light setup like that. Also, if the fish gets into the plants, you'll be stuck and not able to get it out.
@@FishingwithNat I go trout fishing and bass fishing and only have one rod so I want thin line so what would be a good middle ground for bass and trout fishing?
@@BooneTheKing Light line is definitely best for trout fishing. Frog fishing requires pretty heavy line though. If you really want to target bass and trout with a single rod, I'd suggest 15lb or 20lb braid and you could add a light leader when fishing for trout (4lb or 6lb mono or fluoro). You still might get into trouble if you are casting into heavy lily pads, but you should be fine fishing on the edge of pads/vegetation or over the top of submergent vegetation. How heavy is the rod you're using?
This is the exact situation I’m in, I also trout and bass fish and I have 6lb mono and I just got a frog so I’ll write back and let you know how it goes…
@@rbsmokez4682 I’ve used a frog with my 6lb line and got 3 bites but the hooks didn’t get set however that might’ve been my fault not the lines fault but if you can confirm if it works good enough that would be great
No weight needed. Frogs are meant to be surface lures so a weight would hinder their action. They are fairly heavy already and they usually take on a little bit of water, so they can cast a long way without any additional weight.

Honestly you pinpointed all my mistakes. So thanks! It helps a lot!

Thank you!
Yeah sometimes they completely miss the frog or just grab a leg or two. In that case I'll usually downsize my frog.
You can bend the hook outward a little bit with a pair of pliers and that will help with your hook set.
@@gullo8410 Yup, that's mentioned in the video. Bend it a little, but not so much that it catches a lot of vegetation.
And cut the tails to about the length of its body just the overhang of the frog if you hang it upside down

Hello hows your day? I want to share you
This is a message from your loving God.
I send only these two questions to evolution professor and nothing came back(Why berries taste so good and how those little birds survived without wings)
Then they say evolution gave animals camoflash to survive.
Thats a lie because:
The plants have an underwater pollination system.
I have hit musky on the scum frogs a few time when fishing for bass. So i always rock 45lb braid all the time
Not a bad idea. Sometimes you never know what you'll catch on a frog.

Please share the perfect recommended size of frog for given size of snakehead 🙏
Also perfect lb (pound) of braid for given size of snakehead and will not break even in maximum fight back
Snakeheads have large mouths so even a small snakehead can take a large frog.
Great video
Thanks
i have a question i go fishing in a creek is 12lb monofilament line good enough for catching bass
That's plenty heavy. If you go any heavier, I would suggest moving to braided line. Monofilament lines above 12lb get pretty stiff and become hard to cast. They also develop a lot of memory coils.
All explanation video should be clear like this ❤🎉

Does the frog lure works in saltwater ???!
I think frogs would work fine in estuaries or saltwater marshes, but I would not use a frog in open saltwater. They work best in shallows near vegetation.
Use pliers to to widen the hooks a lot easier for hook set
True - spreading the hooks a bit will increase hookup ratio. It can also result in more junk getting stuck on your hooks. It really depends how thick the vegetation is or if it's a lot of small floating vegetation like duckweed.
@@FishingwithNat what would you recommend as far as brand/ or gear ratio spinning reel combo for frogs ?

@FishingwithNat Oh a thank you and also thank you for the top-quality content you make ❤️
@@megasfobia Thank you - I appreciate it!
i got 40lb braid that is good for this right?
40lb braid should be fine for just about any frog application. As long as you keep the fish close to the surface, you shouldn't have any problems with that.
@@FishingwithNat thanks😀
Amazing👍👍

I find mono the best frog line, as that little bit of stretch helps me out. Braid no stretch you can set the hook preemptively. Whatcha think?
I like having a mono leader too, or even fluoro. The little bit of stretch is nice, but the bigger reason around here is that I could get a strike from a pike or musky at any time and they will slice right through braid.
Can I use 4 pound mono for smaller bass?
Yes, but if you get a bigger one on or it runs into some vegetation or other stuff, you'll have trouble getting it back on light line. If you're fishing in pretty open water, you should be fine.
80lbs of vegatation 😂 its kinda true! lol, Great vid.
Thanks. Oh yeah, 80lbs of vegetation is not an exaggeration! 😄
@@FishingwithNat very true!
Do you have them weighted some how?
No, hollow-body frogs are usually made of rubber, plus the weight of the thick double hook and wire, so they are pretty heavy on their own.
@@FishingwithNat thanks Nat .
@@bobcragle8124 Glad I could help.
Is it possible to use 8 lb test on a spinning rod if I don’t want to buy a whole combo just for frog fishing?
8lb test on a spinning rod will work with a small frog in mostly open water or very sparse vegetation. If you hook a large fish near heavy vegetation, chances are it will run in there and you won't have enough power to pull it out.
@@FishingwithNatI decided to throw my frog today after only catching baby bass. I followed your idea and threw it in some sparse duckweed and lily pads… and sure enough, a fatty 5 pounder hits my frog and starts pulling drag. That's a benefit of weedless baits. Sometimes they turn out to be good at being "treeless" too.
Nat this video is great! But, when casting a line with a frog lure do you have to put a weight on it?
No. Rubber frogs are pretty heavy on their own and cast a long way.
@@FishingwithNat Thanks man! So I just need to tie it to a line and that’s it!!! It’s so simple!
@@arikrahman5802 Correct
@@FishingwithNat Thanks!
Could I use mono line because I dont have any stores near to me that have braided usually in stock
You can but you will miss a lot more strikes, and the fish will be more likely get you caught up in the vegetation because of the huge amount of stretch with monofilament. I have caught fish on frogs with monofilament though if it's all I have with me at the time.
i have a problem, my frog hooks are sticking out under the thing and exposed how do i fix the hooks into the right place
That happens all the time after catching a fish. You just need to rotate the hooks back up to the top. You may have to squeeze the body a bit or pull the legs up and over the hooks again. It's hard to describe but if you give it a try, you'll figure it out.
Hello i dont have a frog yet and im a newbie but which frogs is it that make a flopping Sound when dragged? And are they Any Good?
There are various frogs with kicking legs that make popping sounds, or there are popping frogs that have a small scoop on the front and they spit water when twitched. I show both of those frogs in action during the video. You could search for "popper frog" or "kicking frog" online and I'm sure you'll find some options.
Hey have you heard of the double pitzen knot? I think you should check it out.
Yes, it's not one I tie often though. I mostly use the Trilene knot and modified Uni knot.
@@FishingwithNat wow im so happy you replied. I have been tying the modified uni as well. The trilene, uni, and now double pitzen are my first knots i have learned. Love the vids!
@@TheKeosca Cool. Those are all good. The regular Uni disappointed me in our knot test video though. Thanks for the comment.
th-cam.com/video/7I2qx4R8DgM/w-d-xo.html Knot test video
So im using 12 lb mono line on spinning reel but theres no heavy vegetation where i use it
And the frog is a booyah pad crasher
If it's mostly open water where you're using it, 12lb mono should be ok. But the hooks are pretty large on a frog and they require a lot of force to drive them in. And frogs usually work best near vegetation (where real frogs would hang out).
finally the truth!! thanks!!
Thanks for the comment - glad you liked the video
@@FishingwithNat Thank you!!

Doesn't work in Florida for some reason 🤔
What doesn't work? Frogs?
@FishingwithNat Yea, I tried all day.
@@FishingwithNat thank you!
@@nessfittraining9679 You-re welcome - good luck!
Is 50 lb test line really necessary I haven't fished in 15 years and I just bought one of these frogs today
@@FishingwithNat gotcha. Nothing like that here in Wichita at the ponds behind the grocery stores lol I didn't get one bite
@@thecommonsenseconservative5576 Keep trying - frogs are so much fun.
whats the difference between pike and musky?
They are related but they are different species. Northern pike have horizontal bars on their sides while muskies have vertical bars (these bars can be faint sometimes). You can also flip the fish over to look at its lower jaw and there will be 5 or fewer holes/pores on each side of the underside of the jaw on a pike, or 6 or more on a musky. The tail also tends to be pointed at the tips on a musky and rounded on a pike. Both species are more common in cooler climates and hang around aquatic vegetation.
I am fishing Eagle River in a few days, any tips?
Fish on a weekday! 😆
Seriously though, look for quieter bays where the motorboat traffic doesn't stir things up and pile up chopped vegetation. And use a thick leader so the pike and muskies don't take your frog.
@@FishingwithNat you think frog on leader is good move? I will surely try. Any other lure suggestions for when I mix it up?
@ryancastner1407 I always use leaders with frogs because there are so many pike and muskies around. In the south where those species aren't very common, braided line tied directly to a frog isn't a problem. That said, a stiff leader of fluoro or mono will affect a frog's action a bit, especially if you're trying to do a walk-the-dog action. I still stick with using a leader though.
What fish finder do you have on your kayak?
I have a Humminbird Helix 7 on my Sportsman PDL 120 and a Garmin Striker 4 that I move between my two smaller fishing kayaks.
I have a genuine question:
I always hear that you need a heavy powered rod for frogging.
@@FishingwithNat Thank you! This is exactly the answer I needed! I can now rest peacefully.
@@r3ynolds_ow581 Glad I could help
What about bending the hooks? It seems like I get a lot of strikes but the hooks don’t take.🤷🏽
I mentioned bending the hooks out a bit if the hook points are touching the frog's body.
Hello, what about the drag setting? More or less? I can’t seem to set the hook using a Lews American Hero spinning combo, 20lb braid pad smasher jr.
I would set the drag pretty tight so that you can get a good hookset. Just keep it light enough that you don't break the line on a hookset or if the fish wraps you up in some plants.
@@FishingwithNat ok thanks
Can frogs still be used hood with 6 pound mono line? I’m too lazy to change line
@@rbsmokez4682 I’ve used a frog with my 6lb line and got 3 bites but the hooks didn’t get set however that might’ve been my fault not the lines fault but if you can confirm if it works good enough that would be great
Do you use a weight?
No weight needed. Frogs are meant to be surface lures so a weight would hinder their action. They are fairly heavy already and they usually take on a little bit of water, so they can cast a long way without any additional weight.
Daiwa Tatula 300 HS baitcaster has 8.1 ratio.
