Yeah, I prefer to look manly on a set. The first thing is it's just more comfortable. Another thing is when sometimes I'm on set and hold a cam as a woman is already disturbing for others (like what am i even doing there?🤨), I don't need any more attention. In the beginning people are prejudiced, but I think it is what it is. My goal is to go further no mather what :)
Definitely well said! There isnt enough female directors and cinematographers in the local scene. I've been following Brittany Janae for a few years, she has really dope work!
This was a really refreshing take as a relatively new female videographer in the sports world I would love to connect more and pick your brain to learn more about developing in this career!
WOW~Not a woman in film, but I'm currently studying to try and get into another male-dominated field and I found this video very useful! The fear of getting into it and "exposing" yourself is very real, and a lot of the time I consider just doing something easier. This video is a lovely reminder that there will be others looking for me, even if they're hard to find, and that I should keeo going for them and the girls of our future. Especially loved the part about not being afraid to work with some of the supportive men in the industry as well. Overall great message and I hope more people (esp. up-and-coming women) see this!! ❤
Exactly what I needed to hear thank you❤ also that’s crazy you talked about wardrobe because two days ago a switch flipped in my brain where I decided I was going to ditch the baggy and where stuff that makes me feel feminine and confident. I want to look more professional and put together and it has made all the difference. The amount of “wow since when do you wear jeans and boots” comments I got shooting my first game in an outfit that made me feel good was crazy but confidence is key and I’m excited to put together outfits and get ready and do all that fun girl stuff to make me feel confident when I shoot
I really needed to hear some motivational words lol. I finish high school in a year and I'm considering to apply to study cinematography. At that specific school there's usually only one or even no women per year in cinematography (out of 10-12 people).
dp from bushwick here. things aren't as hard for me to navigate until the boys realize shawn is a lesbian, then i'ts ten times as bad. lots of men then try these awkward hazing rituals that just get in my way. the confidence levels etc are something i am not lacking, but that makes the boys so competitive when i step on stage out of their own insecurity... i usually let ppl hang themselves when they step out of line but i'm more music industry side of film production so things have been shifting where a lot of artists both media and music alike are not taking on gigs, festival lineups and crews that are not diverse equally. what always gets me is when the guys are like... "no way you're going to still be holding that red on the gimbal end of the night." watch me liberty torch this rig on one hand thru the crowd.

She's dope! I tried to tag her in the comments - does YT not let you do that? Lol

Love to hear it, it's a hidden part of the job - feeling good in what you're wearing is key to feeling confident
