- Location: Bombay (now Mumbai), Maharashtra, India
Year: Late 1930s
Film Creator: Olive Morgan
Music: Venkatesananda; Song of Sadhna - Jesse Gallagher (original footage does not have any audio)
Description: This film was taken in India in the late 1930s and contains a mixture of scenes recorded at the seaside and in the city of Bombay (Mumbai). The beach scenes show the Morgans and their friends at leisure, sitting outside beach huts with deckchairs, going into the sea in swimming costumes, and surfing on wooden boards. There are also scenes showing groups of Asian people walking along the shoreline.
Midway through the film, there is an informal shot of Gandhi, walking with a small group of his supporters across the beach.
The urban scenes include views of busy streets with tradespeople selling their goods, and there are shots of the Eros cinema building (which opened in 1938), the Flora fountain, and the Taj Mahal hotel.
Towards the end of the film and back on the beach, snake charmers and tightrope walkers entertain the passers-by. One scene shows a small child dancing, as a boy plays an Indian harmonium.
The footage has been clipped to remove sensitive images.

Thanks for showing such an old video. The people who r not lived today. How wonderful to see the Mumbai appx 100 years back.
Thank you very much, Olive Morgan, for providing us such rare glimpses of Bombay streets, and of Juhu in the late 1930s. It is striking how dark & small the Indian natives look in comparison with the British {or American) family staying in that beach-side bungalow...
beautiful video-doc., Thanks for bringing this to us. Informative and entertaining. I always felt that thing really don't change much in terms of culture etc and this is the evidence of that. we are amazingly overpopulated now and destroyed the city and its fora and fauna. Pollution has massively gone up and too many people create bad vibrations to concentrate in a smaller area, all our cities are facing the same issue.
Nice video old people beautiful
No plastic. So clean....
The fantastic thing is that Bombay had that simplicity and innocence too , with her charismatic forwardness ( how advanced Bombay was and yes, Bombay was beautiful than Mumbai ) And the best part no plastic, no pollution , no crowded streets even with the hustle and bustle of regular work . Nostalgic.. Frankly only reason of liking is that nostalgic touch ...Stop calling us some Asians .. We are Indians.
Mein nehi tha us time lekin mere dil
me bahut nostalgic ho raha hain
Very best old Mumbai very best your video thank you
Amazing that none of them were obese.
Bina plastic ke sab kuch bahut clean lag raha hai.
My INDIA, Mumbai ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Surprisingly, there is an video cameras n 1930, might be recorded for a documentary film.

Clean and disciplined
All the. Coconut trees have gone and are replaced by buildings, development?
feeling ashamed our ancestors were enslavved by them.
@@nironeko2242 I disagree. With numbers less than 10% of us, the British defeated us -- in battle after battle, 1757 to 1810. As a result, a nation of 200 million people came to be ruled over by barely 20,000 Brits ! That means 1 Brit showed himself equal to 100 Indians ! I am ashamed that we were so divided (amongst ourselves) that we just could not overthrow them -- until Gandhiji came along in 1916 or so, and began the process of creating a united Hindustan. It took another 29 years before we had the intelligence & strength to make them leave....

Yes you are right..
Precisely! How could they take away your freedom to defecate in public places and discard rubbish wherever you please! Fortunately you can do it since 1947. Good for you! 👍🏻
Post departure of British, Bharat is a third world sewer with rogues and puppets of the mafia ruling the country.
,All in all we have wrecked Paradise...
Old people Sadha insan
100 years, Bombay has lost its Nature...100 percent. Look at the calm beaches, without any skylines.. just nature,, and a Vast ocean.
Sad to see outsiders enjoying natives wealth.
