  • This documentary is about the GUE Wreck Diving Project in Scapa Flow 100 years after the scuttling of the German High Seas Fleet.
On June 21st 1919, the German High Seas Fleet was scuttled in Scapa Flow. Since then, most of the ships have been salvaged, however 7 ships still remain on the seabed off the shore of the Orkney Islands. 100 years after the scuttling, GUE divers around Richard Walker and Benjamin Ott started to document the condition of the wrecks in order to observe gradual changes. Additionally, they started to investigate the impact the scuttling had on the marine life in orcadian waters.

    Top quality video.
Dived the wrecks for the first time in 1982 and then again in 1989.
One thing that has certainly changed is the diving equipment..
We used 96 cu ft single cylinders and generally did 'no stop dives' even on the 3 big wrecks (kronprince wilheim , markgraf and konig)
The viz was very changeable but a good torch was essential.

Thank you so much! I plan to do it much nicer and in 4K by the end of the year... if it’s possible to travel then. Are you a scuba diver, too?

I’m actually planning to do a full 4K documentary next fall....however, hope travel limitations after corona crisis won’t be in place any more.

Between 20m and 45m largely. Some are a bit shallower.
