- The BMW 134 Judd V8 of Georg Plasa might go down on History as the most Iconic Hillclimb Monster of All Time. Loved immensely by fans, this 570Hp/780Kg Spaceframed Monster was powered by a Judd V8 engine capable of reaching upwards of 12.000Rpm and sounding like a Naturally Aspirated Era Formula 1.
Tragedy will forever mark the path of both Mr. Plasa and this Monster he built and drove, but in the minds and hearts of all those who love this Sport, this is an unforgettable and immortal Duo.
If there is a car for which i regret for never seeing it compete in person,this is the one.I can't think of any car that's so brutal,spectacular,fast,beautiful and with such orgasmic sound.The most legendary hillclimb monster ever.I was sad when i found out about Plasa's death.He was Senna of hillclimb racing and had that positive vibe and charisma just like legendary Brazilian.
Rest in peace,Georg.You'll always remain in hearts and memories of your fans.

+jdmnsxr 6 I said that Plasa was Senna of hillclimbs.I'm a fan of Senna myself,but i respect Plasa just the same.He was a phenomenon on hillclimbs just like Senna was in Formula 1.His death left an impact on hillclimb racing just like Senna's death on Formula 1.He was one of those drivers for which you say that are out of this world.And there are other two drivers that drive on hillclimbs like Senna did in Formula 1-Simone Faggioli and Christian Merli,who race with hillclimb prototypes.Plasa was just the same,only he raced with cars.
What makes senna so special above any and all others ? Yeah he was good but hamilton, sebastian leob etc have got to be equals in driving skills. That time period is over with and he probably had the best car and team like hamilton does allowing him to dominate.
+James Avery I have respect for all these drivers,but you have to understand that neither Loeb or Hamilton had true competition later in their careers,mainly because those that could match them retired.Besides,era in which Senna competed had different cars-no electronic assists,just pure mechanic skill.Same goes for rally back then.And he had to battle with Alain Prost,another one of all-time greats.Huge rivalry between them is one of the greatest sport rivalries.And there are people that like Colin Mcrae more than Loeb.Not everything is in victories and champion titles,but it's also personality and charisma.That's why some drivers are legends.

+Raimundo Ferreira Well,fastest on Pikes Peak for sure,but not on Europe's tracks since it never entered or won any of the championships.And this is not M BMW.It's BMW 1 series powered with Judd KV675 3.4L engine which normally poweres Le Mans prototypes.Hence the name 134 Judd.Besides,this car was developed with assistance from Williams Formula 1 team and 2011. was it's first and unfortunately last season it competed.Who knows how much faster it could be if Plasa didn't die during Rieti-Terminillo hillclimb.Possibly faster than Reto Meisel's superfast Mercedes SLK Judd,which gives impression like it could rip Loeb's Peugeot.Both Plasa and Meisel's skills were well known among hillclimb fans long before Loeb went to compete on Pikes Peak.

@Subie 69B Its called the doppler effect, when something moves towards you, the soundwaves are getting pushed into one another and it sounds higher, when driving from you, it's the opposite

In this case the intake sound is different than the exhaust sound , guess doppler effect plays a role but that's not completely it

Comrade Hatuey Turbocharged engines don't usually rev as high as N/A engines
Sometime they sound muted since the exhaust flow gets chopped up when it goes through the impeller
Lysergic Casserole turbo engines can rev high but theres no point because you can make similar power at lower RPM.. NA engines get the praise for sound lightness and the throttle response.
NA is awesome when it's screaming like this hell yeah. But they don't make too many high revving V8s like that anymore anyway. Everybody is going turbo. Everybody!

This is in the top 5 best sounding engines of all time imo. It's in the company of F1 last iteration V10 and V12, Mazda 4 rotor and Supercharged BRM 1.5L V16.

Actually, Judd engine are F1 engines, the original platform is a F1 Honda V8 , the one modified extensively thru the years, then flat crank, boom amazing engine

The best sounding Judd V8 in any race car I have ever heard.
When this car approaches from the front, it has the typical trumpet-y BMW inlet sound.
When it is level with the viewer, it is so loud that most video camera's can't cope with the level and distort the sound.
From the back, the exhaust system seems to suppress the fundamental, lowest frequency that is omnipresent on all other Judd V8 cars, and to me, that makes a very pleasant difference.
Truly one of a kind, and an immortal duo indeed.

Every now and then you see that rare blend of talent and class. As impressive as the car is, Georg Plasa was what made this thing legendary.
Everyone was smiling and laughing when he drove by. True legend with legendary car. Absolute high end sound that comes from this wonder.
What I love about the N/A engines is their pure sound and the best of all is the sound of those pistons going up and down at high RPM.
Actual tears of joy listening to this, every time.

@@Leri0th Basically it's the exhaust that is making the sound the engine isn't similar to how the Lexus LFA is. If you see a stock road legal version and the Race Car version that Toyota Gt3 team used there's a difference in the sound even though they both have the same engine

One day when I am an old man and everyone is buzzing around in their electric cars, I will sigh to myself and think back to the glorious, glorious days when race cars screamed and howled with the power of Judd engines and the like! Sadly, that time is getting closer and closer. Let us appreciate what we have at the moment. Close your eyes and let that sound wash over you, remember it and love it because it is the twilight years of the combustion engine and all the emotion, power, sound and glory that comes with it! God this sound honestly brings tears to my eyes! I am just so grateful that I was alive and my kids are also alive to enjoy it! Thank you Judd and the other great manufacturers for being the soundtrack of my youth!

judd make a v10 that is almost exactly the same engine only with 2 extra cylinders so you can look it up and hear the difference. in my opinion judd make the best sounding modern v8.

i had the chance of seeing Georg and his BMW live and its something i'll never forget
Georg was a great driver, great engineer and a great human being ..he made it look easy , but we all know it is not , I have been fortunate to be in attendance at many hillclimbs ... the sound of that JUDD whizzing by at 145 mph is hard to describe...music and noise rolled into one. For me that saddest thing about his death is that 8 years on ...none of us fans know what exactly caused it , that is shameful ... because it matters not to the fans whether or not his crew failed him , nor that he made a navigational error, or the most acceptable scenario of all being that he suffered a heart attack and incapacitated by it , he struck the mountain ... what matters is that GEORG `s death does not remain a nagging torture for all of his worldwide fans
What a man, what a car! Legend lives on. The ‘road to Goodwood’ makes me totes emosh... Has the investigation completely finished? I want to know what happened too? It’s best to understand in as much detail as poss how these motorsport accidents occur so we can learn for the future. To help protect these speed artists do their thing. In the end he passed away doing something he loved which is better than tiptoeing through life hoping to make it safely to death. Georg Plasa, thank you for the audio/visual joy.
