    With no loss of love to Scannerdanner, Eric O, Ivan, and other auto-electrical content providers - Dan is so my new favourite video provider.
    Scannerdanner got a lot of us into scopes, Eric O got us saying "there's your problem lady", Ivan got us writing stuff down. By the end of the year we'll all know PIDS and faultcodes in Dutch and be saying "guys" a lot. :)
    Great stuff :)

      You mean 'Guysh'.........to get the accent dead on......He's definitely an impressive technician (and a neat tutor / film producer to boot), they all are but nobody is going to learn to be a complete technician from watching TH-cam vids, you need training and time on the job....who do we know who offers training and has a book?...cough ..cough.....hmmmm ...ahh yeah........ S.D.......no not Scooby Doo......Scooby Danner...might sign up for that ebook Paul there's absolutely shedloads I dont know about modern systems. I enjoy watching them all to be honest with a strong interest in the electrical side... the real mystery is looking for the no start imho of course........'and i would've got away with it if it wasn't for you pesky kids'.... ;¬)

    Dan, that's the best explanation as to how cats work I've ever come across. I knew the upstream O2 pulsed, and the downstream should stay static, and I now understand why. Thanks very much.
    Great diagnosis there!

    The best channel for a mechanic technician to learn from somebody who actually understands how automotive systems work.you are a very good teacher.there are many guys who probably have the same abilities as you do, but being able to explain how things work is a talent that is rarely seen.you make everything seem so simple although it is fairly complicated.i wish you success with your business and channel!!!

    I’ve been wrenching for almost 20 years and I always learn something from this guy! Love this channel. That being said I would’ve added a smoke test using the downstream O2 sensor bung and a back pressure tester. I think it would’ve been evident through that tin foil looking heat shield as you could see the suit collection from the very beginning.

    This was a great learning opportunity for me because I didn't realize what an O2 censor did! It really isn't complicated but you would definitely have to have someone break it down to you like you did in this video to see the basics of what a Catalytic converter actually does. I guess some of the newer devices used to control exhaust fumes use ammonia. I know OG&E use ammonia in their cooling towers when they produce power. I've done some electric upgrades to a couple of power plants here in Oklahoma this last 12 months. One power plant had 4 cooling towers they torn down and rebuilt, and I was on a crew that tore out all the old trey and wire etc. and helped to install all new treys and wires and panels.
    Thanks for the video, Dan. My first name is actually Danny. I found this helpful in how to troubleshoot this part of an engine system! Thanks!

    I still don't understand why 10s of thousands of people watch your videos and you don't ever get over 15k likes, even though the videos get over 100k views! You people need to stop being stingy with the likes and let the guy make a little cash from the knowledge he's sharing with you! It doesn't cost you a thing! Pretty pathetic!
    Thank You, Dan, for sharing the knowledge and examples! You are always so detailed in troubleshooting problems and showing how to fix them!

    I like your honesty and attention to details, you are a genius and a real professional, you're what every auto tech should be before they bear the title of their trade , I research the Internet a lot and realise thousands if not millions of vehicle owners are scammed and conned into throwing parts at their cars which still don't solve the problem, when it was just something that simple , it shows that you love what you do and and when you help people genuinely god will bless you exceedingly abundantly more than you can imagine , stay blessed.

    Another case of the same problem to report here. Started getting the error code at 69k miles. Removed the cat and welded it up today. I have seen evidence some main dealers want £1000 to fix. Also I have a Yamaha R6 and I had diagnose a no start situation, so checked the obvious No fuel in tank lol, then did the `Easy Spray` trick direct into the intake and it started briefly..so it is fuel starved, then went and checked the fuel pump relay and bingo it was faulty,,changed out and Yammy now firing on all cylinders, so Easy Start for the win !!

    I can ad that if you get this code on your Citroen or Peugeot and you do not have a leak or bad O2 sensors, you COULD have a bad fuelpump that is making it running lean! I had this fault code for far to long and i melted the Platinum inside the converter. The pistonrings in the engine went real bad so the fuel found its way down to the oil. I like this kind of videos, keep it up! :-)

    Another great video DanTheMan....Working on my daughter's 2007 Altima, we had to replace the CAT twice.
    The first time, we bought the car with a loud exhaust leak...I suspected the joint between the exhaust manifold ant the CAT (it is one piece like this video)....sure enough there was a large crack ....but no codes being thrown.
    Bought a new CAT/exhaust and in a few months the same damn thing happened...this time the new part was covered under warranty. No codes too...just loud exhaust sound.
    Apparently a very common thing on the Nissan Altima.

      Aissaanes Lyes, I'm not sure what you mean can you explain?

    • @aissaaneslyes3566
      @aissaaneslyes3566 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I mean change between them, the upper sensor will be down and verse versa !!!

    • @Diagnosedan
      @Diagnosedan  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aissaanes Lyes, this is only possible when both sensors are the same. Most cars have got a wideband upstream and a narrowband downstream sensor. And ofcourse you try to diagnose the car as fast as possible. Measuring is faster than chancing them out.😁

    2006 ? 4.6 Chevy van parked 2years company parking lot.
    Came for smog check with lean code but pass tail pipe smog good .found few broken exhaust manifold bracket bolts because factory machinist use intermediate tap only when mechanic install they were not tight enough so force more then broke many bolts. So I purchased bottoming tap and cut little more to the bottom and original bolt made no air leak cleared DTC and passed smog check .

    Dan, love your videos and wish I could edit as well as you on mine! One thing I saw on your Peugeot is that you did not mention was that when you forced it rich the REAR O2 switched back low BEFORE the front did! No way that can happen unless there is an air leak between them. Keep up the great information!

    Funny to see this Video now, Last week we had the same Peugeot model, around the same build year , same fault code and around 70.000 KM on the clock .
    I called the local dealership, and the Converter was replaced under warranty, at no costs !

    • @Diagnosedan
      @Diagnosedan  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's fantastic!

    • @peterhol3
      @peterhol3 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I looked it up today , and the total kilometers was 67.563 and a 2014 model as well .
      I called again to the Dealer to ask what the problem was , but the mechanic was told to check the fault , confirm catalytic converter fault, replace said converter and turn the
      faulty converter over to Peugeot for warranty .
      So he mechanic couldn't tell if it had the same crack as in the video, but my guess is it was the same problem.
      Great videos BTW!

      @@lorenzodagamer2485 ‘Of course he did , it's a dealership ! He didn't know if its was an improved version ,or just the same thing, resulting in the same problem 70.000 km on.

      This a very good example of why I prefer an independent shop.
      A mechanic at a dealership is trained to and has to follow prescribed procedures to the letter.
      At an independent shop a mechanic has to be able to analyse, diagnose and then solve problems. (Only) proper diagnosis and root cause analysis will solve problems in a robust and cost effective way. 👍
      No disrespect for a dealership mechanic. It’s just a different type of character that’s needed for a dealership or independent workshop mechanic.

    Congrats man, awesome video, great and very detailed explanation!!! I have a 2015 Peugeot 208, 1.2 engine, showing me the same code. Now that I understand the problem, I’ll try to see if there’s a problem with the sensors or the actual catalytic. Thanks again!

I solved my problem but keep watching your videos and i,m not even mechanic, just repair my own cars myself :) I send my friend to 3 different mechanics , with are considered the best in city and they cannot fakin diagnose whether the problem is in wires or in throttle body :( waste of time and money.

    Another great video. One thing I am not clear on is how air can enter the Cat when the engine is running. Even with a crack in the case, the gas inside of the Cat is pressurized higher than atmospheric pressure, so any gas movement would be from inside the Cat towards outside of the Cat.
