  • The Delta, in Stockton California is an amazing stretch of water that extends out to the ocean. The amount of water is staggering, you can literally get your boat lost in the maze of water ways. If you're into wake surfing, wake boarding or tubing, there's a lot to be had. There's a huge demand for water in California, especially during drought seasons. Locals argue that removing the water from the Delta would push the salt water inland, destroying habitat. Farmers say California needs the water. Either way, it's a great vacation spot.

Thank you so much for sharing . I spent every summer cruising the Delta with my family. My grampa had a 57 foot criscraft and was a member of the st francis yacht club. I remember Tinsley Island. Wonderful memories.

100 miles or more? Try A LOT more my friend. There are over 1100 miles of levees in the system.

You are right. More than 1000 miles of waterways in the Delta system between Stockton and San Francisco Bay. All navigable, by the way.

A guy named Tom patty cleans up the boats left on the delta. The problem s the state only gives him a grant about every 5-10 years. Also that ship is not mothballed it was built to haul sections of the bay bridge that was rebuilt it a few years ago.here and after it was completed here she sits. We do not cut up buts here.they would haul it off. Lastly the “concrete ship” doesn’t just do concrete. It’s a multi pump ship That’s what it was used for during the rebuilding of the bay bridge but has sense been converted to pump grain and rice on to ships that are sent out world wide. As well as gravel

Why aren't there desalination plants down south and everywhere for that matter...maybe some politicians and thier associates stand to profit from stealing our fresh water

It’s called water hyacinth. Its an invasive species from the Amazon delta. When you have to cruise through a garden of it, the prop will chop it up like lettuce. Not good for jet drives though.

It's extremely good for levee protection. It should be allowed to grow rather than try to poison it with chemicals because then your levee protection is severely downgraded.

There are people who take these boats off the delta ... there are various programs - US, County, non-profit ... there are just too many boats to get to .... so it's complicated and limited funds. They have a new program where you can give up your boat if you can't maintain nor store it.

Stockton does a very poor job in enhancing and promoting its Delta connectivity. It has allowed a truly mediocre port (with subzero success record to show for) to suffocate enjoyment of the delta with all levees in the area treated as possible future collapse points. As a result, access to the levees is discouraged (most levees are permanently behind locked gates (imagine this, pedestrians according to Stockton and its reclamation districts, are a threat to levee integrity). The connectivity of newer master plan communities to levees is non-existent and entry points are very difficult to use and they are at quite a distance apart. You can't complain about something when the whole cause of your below-average performance is you and none other.
