And remember this was done during quarantine, so the guys weren't even together. The backing harmonies are great, along with Tim's bass. And Adam's vocal percussion is outstanding. I'm not sure why you feel reluctant to call this the best version ever, but since you won't say it, I will. This is the best "When a Man Loves a Woman" so far, and it's very hard to imagine a better one coming along anytime soon.

Percy Sledge was the first one to have a major hit with this, but a lot of others, including Michael Bolton, also released it. I prefer Home Free’s version. Austin Brown was looking at his girlfriend who was off camera. Also, this was done during the pandemic, and all the guys were in different locations.
Aside from Adam Rupp (the beatboxer), all of them sing lead on different songs. I love that there's no ego among them (they consider themselves brothers) and whoever best fits the song, is the one who has lead. In some songs (American Pie for example), the all sing lead on different verses. By the way, there's a video "9-5 Beatboxing breakdown" where they alll beatbox.

I would recommend you watch Love Me Like That. It's an original about Austins break up with an old girl friend. All of the songs on their Dive Bar Saints album are incredible. I respect Percy Sledge's version as the original; nice soul presentation but lacks any warmth (IMHO). Michael Bolton brought much more soul into his version--it really gives you the idea he is feeling it personally; it is the version I've had on my playlist for decades. But--Home Free's version? Austin's high notes are every bit as amazing as the others. And ALL completely acapella?!? With their harmonies and Adam's vocal percussion too?!? No solo act is ever going to best their version as far as I'm concerned. Theirs is now what plays on my regular playlist. In my opinion, Home Free OWNS this song now ❣🎼🥰🎶❤ Home Free has been such a great gift to all of us--especially their extra efforts in providing us with excellent music/videos throughout quarantine and the difficult days of isolation we all dealt with during the pandemic. I loved the late Percy Sledge's original (not so much Michael Bolton's - I thought it rather over-wrought). I think Home Free's version does justice to the song - the looks are for his lady Amberly. She also does most of the videotaping on Austin Brown's channel. If you haven't seen the cover of "Ain't No Sunshine" on his channel, be sure to watch the talk at the end. It's directed to reactors.
Insofar as breath control, a commenter on his rendition of "Danny Boy" (on Austin's channel) actually counted - throughout the whole song they said he took 14 breaths.

Aside from Adam Rupp (the beatboxer), all of them sing lead on different songs. I love that there's no ego among them (they consider themselves brothers) and whoever best fits the song, is the one who has lead. In some songs (American Pie for example), the all sing lead on different verses. By the way, there's a video "9-5 Beatboxing breakdown" where they alll beatbox.
They do Folsom Prison Blues too if you're doing their Johnny Cash covers. All kinds of stuff in their catalog to keep you amazed and entertained

I would recommend you watch Love Me Like That. It's an original about Austins break up with an old girl friend. All of the songs on their Dive Bar Saints album are incredible. I respect Percy Sledge's version as the original; nice soul presentation but lacks any warmth (IMHO). Michael Bolton brought much more soul into his version--it really gives you the idea he is feeling it personally; it is the version I've had on my playlist for decades.
But--Home Free's version? Austin's high notes are every bit as amazing as the others. And ALL completely acapella?!? With their harmonies and Adam's vocal percussion too?!? No solo act is ever going to best their version as far as I'm concerned. Theirs is now what plays on my regular playlist. In my opinion, Home Free OWNS this song now ❣🎼🥰🎶❤
Home Free has been such a great gift to all of us--especially their extra efforts in providing us with excellent music/videos throughout quarantine and the difficult days of isolation we all dealt with during the pandemic. Their creativity in producing the "quarantine" videos--and their commitment to continuing to provide new entertainment throughout (even though they weren't even in the same state!)--has brought along many HF converts.
