I have sold antiques for many years. If you are getting rid of the shelves, please get someone to give you a quote before you sell. I live in Virginia, too .I know how much any items from old stores go for. Those shelves are a gold mine. Love your videos😊

I’d keep them. They’d be great to store seed boxe etc, etc, or to move upstairs to a kitchen setting, eg as a fabulous room divider in that huge space

I would be saving all those small trim boards you cut up for firewood, for use upstairs later. Or even downstairs. Trim is like the most expensive wood you have to buy later.

Ms Emma: to make some tasks easier, one would be to pull that wood storage freezer box away from the brick wall a few inches to the lid will open freely. Also gather all the hardware pieces you come to find door knobs, hinges,… all in one box you may be able to utilize them for a project.(those clear plastic casters are not very desirable but if you have 4 then keep them) good luck.

So glad you got the wood stove working, it's a game changer in the winter. BTW, don't get rid of the old tools you come across. Lots of refurbishing channels on YT with great tips on how to bring them back to their old glory not to mention their value.

Do not burn shiny magazine pages, especially ones with dyes, just regular newspaper. I also save all the empty paper towel and toilet paper rolls, stuff with dryer lint, flatten and use with crumpled newspaper! Do not burn wood that has been stained, treated or painted. Be very careful with kerosene, just a careless spark will create a dangerous fire. I won't have it in my house. My family has old fishing camps on a lake in Maine, heated with wood stoves, we know how things can go wrong! Get a magnetic temperature gauge to slap on the stove pipe, will help make sure you do not burn too hot. Doesn't look like you have much flat space around the stove pipe, might be the angle, but I use two little "heat distributor fans" on top of my stove which turn with the heat generated and fan heat out into the room! Get heavy duty tarps to cover your wood piles and use heavy leather gloves to grab the wood (avoiding snakes and other critters) and I use them to place additional wood into my wood stove! Good luck!

Im pretty new to your channel and dont often comment on things but watching you and your dad together makes me so happy. Im 31 and mine passed very unexpectedly in September. Its strange knowing its been months but the hurt is still there like it was last week. My relationship with my dad was similar to what it looks like yours is like with yours. He had the answers for everything and I could ask him for help anytime for anything and he would always be there. Its strange how we appreciate people but a lot of times never say it enough. Good dads deserve to be told how much they are loved and appreciated. Mine knew of course but given the new normal I wish I could tell him again, just one more conversation. I know you understand with the passing of your mom, the healing journey is a long one. Anywhoozle, your videos are great and calming & seeing the progress you are making on your property is fun to watch :)

Read a few of the comments n the one about the shelves is a great idea in using it
    up stairs.
I have to admit this that I love old things. I think I was born in the wrong era. But I’m hoping that you’ll try to keep much of the items in this old general store than you can. Of course I don’t know how much appreciation you have for old things n antiques. Seeing that you are in the younger generation you may not care for it. I love it because each piece has a story to tell, just wish it could talk. Either way it’s your place n your right to design anyway you want.
That’s a very nice wood stove you have. I hope it’s keeping you warm in that old building.
Take care Emma n God bless.

I love that you are taking such a careful approach while doing the cleaning and sorting. So many just have a dumpster delivered and start chucking. It will be fun to see, as things progress, which of these wonderful old artifacts make it into your decor. Glad to see you now have a heat source! It just makes everything better, doesn't it? :)

    • @kysmik8214
      @kysmik8214 4 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

I'm one of those that has the dumpster delivered. I can tell you at the rate she is going, she will be an old woman before she gets this place done. Most of the stuff she is fascinated with is obsolete tools and junk and very little of it has any value. As someone who has repaired these old buildings I can tell you time is of the essence. I wish this girl all the luck in the world but she needs to quit playing around and get serious about what she is doing. Yes she is doing a lot on her own but much more should be done by now...even though it is just her.
No hate meant, just the plain truth.

Your “big nail” that you found on the shelf is actually a railroad spike. It’s what holds the rails down to the wood crossties. 😊 Those old rusty tools can be soaked in oil. It will stop the rust & free up any moving parts that may be stuck. Used motor oil from your oil change in your car works good for this. After soaking, you can set the parts & pieces on a wire rack in the sun to drip dry. If you let them drip on wood, then the wood makes a good fire starter after soaking dry for a few days.

Hi. Consider purchasing a gas or electric blower to blow all the dust out the front door. Let me know if this was helpful.

Chesterfield cigarettes no longer exist. My husband has this old black n white military tv show from back in 60's and their sponsor was Chesterfield cigarettes! They had a jingle, too!

You’re sniffing more as you clear and it might be the dust mites! If you take an anti histamine at the start of the day, that will help stop any reactions to the mites in all that old dust 😊

I can't be the only one naming the things she was holding in front of the camera. Everything from a bit-and-brace (drill), railroad spike, door lock escutcheon, plumb bob and more...and I sure hope those blocks of wood she threw in the stove weren't something special like rosewood or an exotic species. Wasn't uncommon for old stores to carry them for projects.

My thoughts exactly on the wood. I turn wood on my lathe and I recognize several blocks of wood as wood blanks for turning. I nearly cried when she threw some into the fire 😞

The cigarette prices sound like the prices my parents paid in the early 1960s, I think. The glitter acrylic wheel made me think of the little plastic kitten heel play shoes, also from the 1960s.

Cigarette prices in the 60's were around $.25 a pack. That's crazy compared to $10. a pack today! Smokers have it hard in many ways. Y'all need to quit! ❤

Emma, Have someone put a damper on the stove pipe. You can control heat and your firewood will not burn up so fast, you will stay warm longer. Right now the way it is, your heat is going up your pipe and out. God Bless you and your dad! (Glen) WV.
