- Netflix actor Joseph Quinn broke down in tears at a comic event when a fan thanked him for his behaviour at an earlier signing.
The Stranger Things star, 29, couldn't contain his emotions during his first ever Comic Con appearance at Olympia London.
Quinn recently rose to fame after playing the character Eddie Munson in the hit TV series.
In the video, he can be seen getting emotional on stage after one fan expressed her thanks to him for giving time to the fans at the busy convention.
She also refers to an incident that happened the day before, when Comic Con staff reportedly allegedly rushed a meet and greet.

She said everything right and so beautifully. She really spoke for every single fan of his across the world. She acknowledged how he was treated at the event, without being intrusive, and wanted him to know that every one of us are eternally grateful that he’s there giving each person his best. He’s so humble and shy, and I know it’s probably so overwhelming and a shock to have become a big TV star in just over 2 months. I loved his character Eddie, and Joseph really embodied him, and made him real for us. He deserves more credit for how devoted he is to his craft. I hope he knows we all come from a place of love, and that we all connect with him and Eddie in such a great way. It’s so refreshing to see him in tune with his emotions, and I hope he know how much we loved and appreciated his addition to the show. cant wait to see him in more things. 🥺❤️

@@johnburke1738 I’m not 100% sure of all the details as to what they said , but I heard they were pushing him around like a child, rushing him, telling him he’s taking too long with each fan, and near they end they told him he couldn’t even sign things, hug them, or take pictures. It’s his first ComicCon and they made it a disaster. I feel like part of his crying was his embarrassment for how he was treated. He just wanted people to have a good time and the staff belittled him.

Yeah I was thinking back like, what if it had been a different actor saying those lines and wearing those clothes, would people have felt the same way about Eddie? Joe doesn’t talk or dress like Eddie, but he seems to have the important part of what made people care so much - as you said, a “kind and gentle soul”.

I'm so glad someone said this to him, she literally validated his emotions and basically told him that what happened was not okay, and it was no way to treat someone not even in this industry, she validated him as a human, and I think that's what we all need once in a while, and for him more after being treated like merchandise

He was yelled at and mistreated by the staff because he was trying to be nice to the fans and take his time with them, he had no breaks, no water was given to him I heard, and he had to be there for hours. This was his first comic con and well, it was a horrible experience

God, the way his demeanor changes when she mentions the way he was treated - like he virtually looks like a little kid remembering being chastised. It's fucking heartbreaking. Then to see him getting emotional to the point of tears knowing that his fans appreciate him, appreciate Eddie, is an even bigger gut punch.
THEN! To see the con organizers come out today to claim what's being said is "all a lie", when there are literally videos showing Joe's dad looking concerned while he's doing the signings, asking if he's okay and actually having to ASK one of the con staff if they can bloody give Joe some WATER FFS! Video of the photo line that is virtually the con organizers just shoving fans through one after another as fast as they can, and you can see Joe has no more than enough time to say hello before CLICK! NEXT! Hello, CLICK! NEXT! Jaysus. And he stood for like 2000 photographs on the weekend, FAR more than all the other actors there. But no yeah, "all lies" con organizers. *eye roll* Even going so far as to claim that Joe was "under sold" and that he had "plenty of time" between his events for more fans to buy photos/autographs (in other words, THEY sold MORE tickets to OVER SELL HIM!!!).
This being his first convention, without a doubt the organizers used his inexperience of what to expect to THEIR advantage and 100% took advantage of him, working him like a DOG to get the most money out of him being there that they'd be able to, and then claiming they had NO idea that he'd "be so popular".
Omg they were totally taking advantage of the fact that Joseph obviously hasn’t done con’s before. Normally I would question if it really fans just acting up, because fan culture is messy at the best of times, but no, Showmasters said themselves this was his first convention, and anyone who knows conventions knows they’re madness for all involved. He probably didn’t want to let anyone down, and is probably used to working very hard as a performer, ugh I’m so disgusted by these corps trying to guzzle every drop of money out of people. Joseph benefits from these things too, but the fact that he was trying to actually be good to his fans says a lot.
The people running this thing are so full of it! He wouldn’t have reacted like he did, and so easily, if all went as well as they say. Just covering their asses. Treating the actors/actresses and the fans like cattle 😡😡😡. They should be ashamed.
It enrages me to the point of tears that they took such disgusting advantage of him. Joseph is one of the purest souls you will ever meet and they absolutely overworked him so badly. Simply seeing him break down here because someone was so kind to him is proof enough that he did not realize that the way he was treated was so bad, even though it was completely just awful. Like, i can't find the right adjective to describe just how bad it was. I wish he knew how many people love and adore him.

I feel terrible for Joe. It wasn't his fault. It was his first time being an actor at a convention that fans would want to meet. He is truly amazing and I am terribly sorry that all of this happened to him.

I grew up in the 80’s and I knew guys just like Eddie. The underdog the outcast the oddball, but with hearts of gold. This actor REALLY captured a person from the 80’s. This is why as a 50 year old I can connect with Eddie.
50 years old here too. Your words, my thoughts. I was chocked by how he perfectly captured the spirit of the outcasts, and rock stars of the 80s. Great performance. Great writing too.
The charater is a legend now. And yes i love him. But i'm also fine with that end. The speech about the unkown hero of the town, was incredibly intense and rare.

Funny I was just like Eddie in High School! Long hair, Metallica concert shirts. In fact in my 1987 High School year book supplement I was named "Mr. Heavy Metal".

The fact his expression IMMEDIATELY changed and already looked like he was going to cry when she brought up "yesterday" just tells you that whatever happened the day before probably kept him up that night and he probably cried about it in private before this fan brought it up

@@kimonaNo1 from what I heard. The staff at whatever event he was at were screaming at him because he was taking too long with fans. And that he continued to take his time with fans despite what the staff said. They yelled at him again and told him to hurry the fuck up or something like that.

Context they(agents/management)oversigned him and were trying to rush him through fans instead of letting him(which he was doing)when he was spending time with them and appreciating the support and conversations each fan trying to make their day special

I saw John Barrowman go off on a member of the staff at a con once for doing this very thing. The staff member said, "Hey, John... hurry it up, man!" in the worst tone. Barrowman said, 'Excuse me?' He had them hold the line while he proceeded to tear this guy a new ass. He said, 'These people have paid their money to come and hang out with us and that's what I'm going to fucking do. You do NOT disrespect them that way!' It wasn't even about the disrespect to him, but to the fans. These promoters will try and get away with murder if left unchecked. I'm so glad the fans rallied behind Quinn. He seems like such a nice guy who would never stand up the way Barrowman did, so it's great he had the fan's support.

So sweet and the fan as well was so lovely. She could have devoted her time to asking a question, getting a funny panel moment, but instead she told Joe probably just what he needed to hear. She was supportive without putting him on the spot. And it seems like it isn't often fans just genuine thank these actors in this way. I know if I was in Joe's place, going through that at the con would have completely broken me down, so the fact that he was still trying to be nice to each person despite everything says a lot about him. ❤

It shatters my heart knowing how rough this sudden launch into fame has been for him. It can not be easy to become beloved worldwide over night. Because that means being hated too, when really i can't understand why anyone would ever hate him. He's so beautiful and perfect and i just adore him so much. @@Madilynne-AP that's something the writers will decide. If they see how popular this character is, they will most likely consider bringing him back. It's not really hard to find a way for that which actually makes sense.
If they bring Eddie back, it will diminish his sacrifice by finally becoming the hero.

They could make it up to him by bringing him back for season 5. Eddie's death was so unnecessary and stupid. Eddie was an incredibly fantastic and refreshing character.
He crushed the Eddie role. Like most people, his first scene in Episode 1 blew me away. He just keep it rolling all season and peaked in the last episode. Really amazing performance.
I saw this lady’s TikTok video talking about that moment and how kind Joseph was to her and her guide dog. She seems like a very sweet lady and I’m glad she was there to let him know how much Eddie means to the fans and how appreciative they are of how lovely he’s been.

This is one of the most touching videos to ever happen. It's so beautiful because Joseph didn't really deserve to be treated that way at Comic Con and he is genuinely a nice person who's kind to his fans, especially when we all connected with Eddie because we saw ourselves in that character. We know what it feels like to be an outcast who is into different interests. Eddie embodied the underdog and I'm thankful that Joseph is getting the support he needs.

out of all the new characters introduced in the sow I was saddened by Eddie's death the most and I realized what the girl said was true. I think a lot of us relate to him the most and want to be like him. He was an outcast but he was confident in who he was, he was afraid but when it mattered he was courageous. Eddie is a fantastic character and will be missed!

So they over booked him by hundreds of guests and he greeted all of them and the organizers gave him shit for going over time (because they let in too many fans and he didn't run from them) cuz he never runs away now.
Yeah it sucks that a lot of organizations give their talent shit for being super nice! I once waited for like 5 hours to meet Brad Dourif and almost didn’t even get to see him. A lot of the organizers were kinda rude to the ppl who make them money, especially when the guests are being nice and meeting everyone who waited! But I don’t understand because when I have a good experience I want to come back, otherwise I’m just standing in line 5 hours for nothing!!
