Very interesting and I really agree with the appeal he lays out. I loved imagined worlds from the sci fi and to a lesser extend fantasy real and directed that interest into worldbuilding towards real history. It's he same appeal, just with the extra layer that these things actually happened and you can still visit many of the places, see many of the structures and even read first hand accounts occasionally.
Tom, speaking of King Arthur, you have to delve deep into the history of the Welsh royal family, in Glamorgan to be precise. Arthwys ap Meurig. He is the legendary King Arthur. There is no doubt about it.
Wonderful. His own utterly gripping, extraordinary account of Herodotus' subject, Persian Fire, isn't even mentioned - but I would put it among my own most loved three history books.
When you listen to people like Thom you at least for me make me realize how much time I literally wasted and would like to have it back ! Lol tears....
I did not know this backstory about Tom Holland , vampires and the Pharaohs... 😂 this is a fantastic aspect to the guy. I was not expecting to hear that !!!. I'd always imagined he was quietly just teaching history somewhere 😁

I really like history nowadays...it has been the most neglected of subjects. With people like Tom Holland it comes alive.
Yes especially the history of Islam. Few even know what it is
What an exciting and brilliant man !
Lovely interview. Thank you.
You can't cry over spilt milk ," however you can fill the rest of your days doing something you love and share it with others !

Byron was indeed the model for the vampire Lord Ruthven in John Polidori's The Vampyre (1819).
This guy isn’t Spiderman
