    No one should apologize unless they are genuinely sorry...
    This whole thing kinda reminds of how when someone's a young kid, and they do or say something that upsets another kid, and an adult forces said kid to apologize to the upset kid...
    I feel that forcing someone to apologize doesn't do any good. They say they're sorry, but do they mean it? Probably not. They're more likely to feel bitter and angry.

    1. make it exactly 10 minutes long and 1000 ads on it
    2.avoid actually apologizing in any way
    3.repeat yourself 10000000 times
    4 .brag about what good you did
    5.continue to do the exact same thing in the future

    If someone hates coffee and is offended by anyone who drinks it should I, a person who loves coffee, give it up and apologize to them for my offense? Or should they grow the fuck up and realize that not everyone believes the same thing, likes the same thing, or has to live by their ideals?

    Everybody is here complaining about how Rep should put out his video about Joy now and it's stupid because I don't think he cares about the hype of it? How many views it gets? Also he has a life? I think he has the right to do any video he wants to, and nobody here complaining has the right to tell him what to put out when. Stop complaining. His life and youtube channel doesn't revolve around Joy.

      But what do you expect tho ? People get hyped over anything this day n age over TH-camrs , celebrities ect but there is one thing that people like and that's drama . That's why people want the vid to come out so bad . We all know he has a life of his own and he can do what ever he wants with his time but the majority are hyped about this because it's just drama . That's all it is

    • @Fool-ofHearts
      @Fool-ofHearts 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jennifer Pollitt I'm not saying there's anything wrong with people who are hyped about the video. It's not what I'm saying at all. The thing that kind of bugs me is the people telling him what to do with HIS channel, telling him to put it out when obviously he isn't ready to or else he would have done it. It just kind of reminds me of those people who click on somebodys video just to tell them that they hate that person? Like of course it's not the same thing but it doesn't seem like they care about what he discussed in the video, it seems like they simply clicked on it just to push the fact they want him to hurry up with the Joy video.
      I don't think there's anything wrong with them wanting the video to come out at all, and I'm sorry if it came across that way :) and I'm sorry if I repeated some things.

    • @jenniferpollitt6317
      @jenniferpollitt6317 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Fool Of Hearts I 100% agree and understand that but even me and other people that have made the argument if she did something wrong that he would come out with it and bring awareness of her own actions . But yeah I guess I understand maybe something is going on in his life or his busy and now that I gave it thought, it takes 2 days or more to edit hours of footage so that could be it or it takes awhile to upload
      Plus people make alot of vids on joy and I'll admit I don't like her because of her racist remark and I use to be a fan of hers and I love repzion and I've seen him be kinds annoyed with his fans and it just has me concerned is all

    You can't control how people feel or react to something you say or do. If you genuinely feel bad about something you did or said and apologized for it but sometimes people will be hurt and offended over things that we're not intended to be that way and maybe some Dialogue on clearing up the misunderstanding may be appropriate but apologizing for the misunderstanding is not a necessity

    Here's a couple blonde jokes than.
    2 blondes, a husband and wife go deep sea fishing. After catching a huge amount of fish, the husband looks at the wife, and goes give me that bucket of paint and that brush, I'm going to swim to the seafloor and mark where we are. She looks at him, and goes you're an idiot neither of us can swim.

      Three blondes are stranded on a desert island. They find a lamp and the genie gives them each 1 wish.
      The first blonde wishes to be 10% smarter, so the genie turns her into a redhead and she builds a raft and sails away.
      The second wishes to be 50% smarter, so the genie turns her into a brunet and she builds canoe and sails off.

    Wow, this was a really great video. I agree with pretty much everything you have said and it has made me reflect on certain aspects of my life.
    Whenever I apologize, I truly mean it. It's never flashy and it is always between me and the person/people it involves because I don't see the need to show anyone on the internet my private business. Another thing is that I am very blunt with my apologies, I state what it was that I did wrong and ask of their forgiveness and if I'm lucky in that situation they'll forgive me. I try to admit my faults so they know it's sincere and not just an empty apology.
    The part that made me reflect was when you were talking about how you pretty much lose yourself if you try to tip toe around issues and please everyone. Growing up, I've been a people-pleaser and just in these past few years I've seen how much it has damaged my growth as an individual. When I tried to make others happy there was no more room to make myself happy, or realize what it was that makes me happy.
    Because of people like you, I am reminded why I love TH-cam. You're not involved in the unnecessary drama and you have helped me improve myself to be a better person. I just wanted to say thank you for posting videos that challenge me to improve (by thinking deeper into certain topics). I really appreciate your eloquence in this video.
    P.S. It is also very refreshing seeing a response video that doesn't have a clip of the original video inside of it.
    -Patricia

    I think for me it all comes down to "intentions matter".
    If you make a joke without knowing that it would make the one you are talking to offended, whatever, shit happens.
    If you know what effect it's gonna have and do it, you are kinda responsible. Though that by itself doesn't mean that you can't do it, just gotta own up to it ... I guess ?
    Idk, I would not apologize to someone who I deem is being unreasonable.

    I think the huge thing people aren't taking into account is INTENT. Spot on. You're responsible for yourself and your own actions. What kind of world are we living in where we have to walk on eggshells? You can't say anything these days without someone calling you out for being some ignorant ape. Do things with good intentions, don't intentionally be a jackass and that should be it.

    I had a room mate once that was a continual victim it felt like. Once I remember we were walking to the grocery store together and she brought up a joke I'd made months prior. This joke was at her expensive as she didn't like it so at the time I had apologized because it really wasn't the best joke. But now it's months later were walking to the store I'd forgot I'd even made this joke by this point and she starts going off about how much I hurt her and how shitty I was. I don't remember what brought up this topic but I do remember thinking why are you getting pissed at me now? I would've thought we'd moved past a stupid joke from months ago. But no some people just have to make themselves a victim to make others feel bad. Honestly being friends with her was toxic.

  • @Kille483
    @Kille483 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Something you didn't mention (If I remember correctly), but it's also not beneficial for the person who wants the apology. If you go around and expect everybody to apologise to you if you tell them so, it's gonna affect you if someone doesn't give it to you. Don't expect or demand an apology from people. They don't owe it to you.
    Be thankful when someone do sincerely apology to you, because they aren't obliged to do so. It's also important to remember that just because someone apologises to you, that doesn't mean you have to forgive them straight away or even at all. You don't owe somebody your forgiveness just because they said they're sorry.
    Basically only apologise if you actually feel sorry, and only forgive if you have actually forgiven :) You have to feel it otherwise it means nothing.. It's just empty words!

  • @boopieboop3832
    @boopieboop3832 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I think it's half and half, like if you say something obviously hurtful to someone you're half accountable but half not. I don't think accountable is the right word though. But only if u say something that is truely hurtful. I see ppl using examples like "well if I like coffee and that offends u, I'm responsible for your feelings?" That's such an overly simplified and dumb example. If u tell someone "your fat and stupid" then yes you're half accountable for their feelings being hurt since u said something truely hurtful. If u say "I like coffee" and that offends someone then you're not accountable because that's silly. I would say it just depends on what you say (if it is objectively hurtful), your intentions (if you're trying to put someone down on purpose), and if u know / are aware that it's a sore topic for someone. Cuz u can't just say something really rude or put someone down and if they're hurt say "well I'm not responsible for your feelings". It would be a good excuse for emotional abusers "I'm not accountable for your feelings when I say mean things to u"

    I couldn't even get through her whole video. With her line of reasoning, no one should ever have any sort of contact with another person because if I do something that ANYONE take offensively, it's my fault for not realizing that it was wrong. If I compliment a friend's shoes or car then someone could be offended that I didn't comment on their shoes or car and I'm automatically in the wrong. It's ridiculous.

    You made some good point. Regarding the internet, I do agree that it's not your responsibility for other people's feelings whenever you upload your own opinion in internet. I also believe that we can't easily dismiss things like what we feel as we use the internet. Any chance you might discuss digital dualism vs augmented reality? Cuz I see alot of people seems to be too much emotionally invested in the internet, while at the other side some people disregard so many things because "it's internet".
    Anyway keep up the vids!

    The fact Riley gave steps to follow to make a 'sincere' apology was laughable. If you need to follow steps to appear that you're being sincere, you're not being fucking sincere, so just don't bother! There are a few things I'm smart enough not to say in public, regardless of my personal opinion on them, but in general, I say what I think and I won't apologize for it unless I'm actually sorry and feel I was wrong at that time I said it.

    Too many people want others to cater to their needs. It's more productive to realize that there's always going to be people who rub you the wrong way, either intentionally or not. Learning how to deal with this makes you a more ready for the world and makes you a better person.

    My mother was a great liar. She lied from the moment she got up to the moment she went to sleep. You shouldn't apologize, they could be lying. In which case, you'll be wasting your time. Just say, "OK, noted." Then move on.

    *sighs* The internet is the internet, not real life.
    People make videos, people aren't accountable for your feelings.
    YOU are accountable for your feelings.
    Frankly, we aren't going to apologize unless we make a mistake or we make a point that's incorrect.
    It's silly why someone would demand an apology for nothing.
    If anything, grow up. It's the internet. If you want to ignore the stuff that people say, then ignore them. Seriously, live for you, live for yourself. Don't live for others. My response to this, is to live for yourself . Do what you want to do. You are accountable for your actions.

    This video reminded me of this story (because of the topic of apologies):
    I once read in a book called the Little Midrash Says (a book that's for kids, mind you) a story about a rav who got in a fight with a butcher. Right before Yom Kipper (the Jewish holiday where God decides how your year is going to go), despite the fact it was the butcher that started the fight, the rav decided to go to the butcher's place to give the butcher a chance to apologize to the rav. When the butcher saw the rav, he got angry, and told him to leave. God than proceeded to have the knife the butcher was using to slip out of his hand, and decapitated the butcher.

    offence is taken not given, unless of course you are meaning to hurt someone by such jokes. you shouldn't have to say sorry, like i would as i care too such what people think tbh, i'll say sorry if i did hurt them but i'd tell them it was a joke.

    I don't think you should be obligated to apologize to anyone you offend, but I think it's worth taking a moment to consider their point of view and how you might have been perceived instead of just being dismissive of anyone who calls you out. I'm willing to consider that maybe I said or did something wrong and maybe apologize, but you sure as hell aren't getting any apology on demand alone.

  • @Ozaryk

    It's like this... If someone demanded an apology from me for offended them. I could go with the route where they offend me with that statement, and demand an apology right back. Then they could either go the route I took and get offended at that, or try the whole "Well, you offended me first" strategy, of which I could just take the route where I got offended at them trying to take the pole position and not being seen as equal.... XD
    I am laughing at what I typed in here. It could never end.

    I agree, you can't really apologize to everyone who is offended by something you say. I believe an apology is warranted when you decide that you were in the wrong. If you're not sorry, you don't apologize. Simple. I agree with Riley about the insincere apologies, but the way I see it is, if the only way for you to apologize is insincere, then you should not apologize

  • @notleah8700
    @notleah8700 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Apologizing will never work. Because outrage warriors aren't simply looking for accountability from the person that they took offense to. They want control over the person and the situation. "You have to keep apologizing, no matter how many times it takes." That’s basically enslaving yourself to the other person's feelings. Because for them, if you were really that sorry you would feel just as miserable as the offended party did and do anything to be forgiven, which is what they want. And that is some sadistic shit right there.
    These are people who want external validation to compensate for the self-loathing that they feel rather than do the hard work and learn how to love themselves regardless of what people say or do. They don't need an apology, they need professional help.

    Everyone needs to hear this video. People don't hear that pandering to the feelings of everyone around you is actually unhealthy for you. That you matter just as much as the people around you, including if someone is upset over an unintentional action. I am not saying that apologizing is bad if you mistakenly hurt a friend's feelings, but that is not an apology to say you're a bad person and that you're wrong. Its more of a "I hurt your feelings, I will remember this is a sensitive topic for you and I will try to be considerate of this. Because you are a friend and I care about you." motion. Or hell you could just say that instead of just saying sorry. Communication and authenticity/being genuine isn't a bad thing.
    It's okay to be an organic living thing with your own ideas, feelings, and actions. You shouldn't a pull-string doll that says sorry because someone thought you looked at them the wrong way through a one-way window. And the cherry on top of that is that when apologies are said that much, they start to lose their meaning. Even if your intention is to truly apologize and you feel like you really should, if this is the 53424th time saying it that day, it doesn't carry the weight of the moment, how you feel or the sincerity of your intent. So it can even be counterproductive. It can possibly make you feel like you can't apologize enough or you need to do more and more.
    Anyway, now that I am done writing my novella, off I go! Keep it up Mister Repzion.

    Sometimes I wonder if social
    networks recognize their own
    hypocrisy, I try to do so with
    my own, esp after getting caught in it, but then who doesn't? if your behavior doesn't match your words, eventually, no one will take you seriously, I've had to learn this the hard way.
    when the people you hang out with respect your boundaries, of course you should return the favor. But on social networks, feeling obligated to filter yourself is ridiculous, and yes, there are exceptions to this principle, which I'll go into later...

    I think there's a difference between someone who doesn't like cats and someone being told that something intrinsically part of who they are is enough for them to not even exist at all.
    I agree with you, but I also think people should be a little empathetic to sensitive things. If you're calling someone a slur or degrading them knowing that this can and will hurt them, then yeah--you are accountable.
    Also, there is only one "right" way to apologize: with empathy and genuineness.
