I grew up here my early days. I didn’t think of the town as bad until the 1980s during the crack days. They just never recovered from the crack and the gangs. A couple of my young cousins were killed in their teens! Most of my people moved to Houston where the jobs are. Tho my cousin recently moved back to retire. I have fond memories crawfishing. Eating sugar cane and watermelon. Home made ice cream and gumbo. Good times!

I eat gumbo anytime of the year. I miss homemade ice cream and sugar cane.

I AM 65 NOW. LIVE IN DALLAS SINCE 1983 AND NOT ONE DAY SINCE I REALIZED I WAS NOT THE CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE ( haha about 2-3 right?) IVE NEVER KNOWN A DAY IN WHICH IVE TAKEN MY BELOVED SOUTHERN LOUISIANA UPBRINGING AND ENTIRE EXPERIENCE THERE FOR GRANTED!!!!!!!
      IM WELL EDUCATED
HAVE EXPERIENCED QUITE PLENTY OF OTHER COUNTRIES , MANY OTHER US STATES AND THE MOST BEAUTIFUL INDIVIDUALS, COMPLETELY FASCINATING TO ME A PERSON WHO ADORES OBSERVING INDIVIDUALS AS WELL AS EVERY DIFFERENT TYPE OF SOCIETAL GROUP WE HAVE CREATED HERE ON MOTHER EARTH!!!!!!!
JUST THE MOST IDILLIC MOMENT AND PLACE AND CULTURE TO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY AND THE BLESSING TO HAVE EXPERIENCED…….. MUCH LESS TO HAVE GROWN UP IN. This is beautiful to me / so so very sorry for all who have yet to experience southern Louisiana!!!!!!!
SO DONT BE MISLED BY THIS ADORABLE VIDEOGRAPHER AND HIS FRIEND. IT IS THE BEST!!!!!!!
MY BROTHER STILL LIVES THERE AND THO THE TOWN IS SLOWLY DYING AWAY DURING THIS PARTICULAR MOMENT IN TIME ……….. when I am there I LONG FOR THE TRUTH OF THE EXPERIENCE THERE
AND AGAIN TO BE ABLE TO LOVE ALL BEAUTIFUL US
AND TO BELLY LAUGH AND CRY AND EAT AND DRINK IN EVERY BIT OF THE REAL LAGNIAPPE OF LIFE THAT LIVES AND BREATHES ALL THROUGH EVERY PERSON WHO LIVES THERE NOW IN OPELOUSAS LOUISIANA AND THE ENTIRETY OF THE SOUTHERN UNITED STATES
( ps ……. I love providing helpful feedback to entrepreneurs) ( so listen up videographer and friend lol……. YOU HAVE GOT TO USE NARRATIVE BUDDY
either research some of the best stories about the places you will visit or better yet…… MAKE IT YOUR BUSINESS TO LOCATE AND HIRE NATIVES FROM WHEREVER YOU ARE DRIVING THRU TO DESCRIBE LOVE…… your narrative alone is totally boring
WAAAAAY TOO MUCH COMPETITION FOR PEOPLES ATTENTION TODAY!!!!!!! GOTTA USE STORY ( we are hard wired for story )
AND GOTTA SHARE REAL PERSONAL EXPERIENCES OF THE NATIVES OF EACH AREA
I IDENTIFIED A “MILLION” places where I so easily have added the value this video needed in order for it to have FLOWN!!!!!!!)
Ps AGAIN haha::::: nope no red necks in southern Louisiana
Northern is home to the rednecks
we southerners refer to ourselves as CAJUNS or COON ASSES
no less boring even now than most other places in the us in my personal experience
AND IM ALL ABOUT THE FUN lol
Most beautiful kind warm truly loving people in the Whole World!!!!!!!!
if you get lucky enough to go there ………. GO!
It would be mere ignorance if one could experience any people on earth to share with and to live side by side with AND THEN CHOSE OTHER- THAN ……..
Opelousas was the capital of Louisiana for a period of time during the civil war for curiosity’s sake I share this
It’s located within ST LANDRY PARISH ……
      BEST FOOD ON PLANET EARTH
been owned and ruled over by many various other peoples and countries; henceforth it’s become a melting pot in every way
      Perhaps most enjoyable
The rich textures and flavors of the best of the best in each culinary culture come together to blast your pallet RIGHT OFF OF OUR BLESSED BELOVED MOTHER EARTH!!!!!!
OH!!!! Hahah AND THE MUSIC ????? THE DANCING OF THE SOULS UNITED IN THE FREEDOM OF LIVING IN PEACE AND PROSPERITY OF BEAUTIFUL LOVING ARMS …… AND SO WISE ARE THESE PEOPLE:::::: NO DAY LIVED THERE WITHOUT FULL APPRECIATION AND GRATITUDE OF WHERE AND HOW WEVE GROWN UP!!!!!!HOW OVERLY BLESSED I REALIZE IVE BEEN TO HAVE BEEN BORN IN AND AMONG THE MOST PRECIOUS PEOPLE AND TO HAVE BEEN GIVEN SUCH A GIFT AS TO GROW UP in HEAVEN ON EARTH……… an experience that SOOOO FEW OF US WILL EVER GET TO BREATHE AND DANCE THROUGH….. JUST LIVING SANS HAVING HAD THIS REAL UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH THE TRUTH OF THE REALITY THAT WE LIVE AND ABIDE IN ……. THAT YEP! LIFE AND PEOPLE REALLY ARE MORE BEAUTIFUL AND PRECIOUS AND PERFECT IN THEIR SHARING OF THEIR HEARTS THEIR LOVES AND THEIR LAUGHTER!!! SOOOO MUCH TRUTH ALIVE AND AVAILABLE!…… ENOUGH HEART AND SOUL FOUND THROUGHOUT THIS BLESSED REGION TO CARRY ME THROUGH TO THE MOMENT OF MY BIRTH INTO MY NEXT COURSE LOL! KIKE ENJOYING A FAB DINNER AFTER HAVING PREPARED FOR BY NOT EATING ALL DAY!!!!
WE NEED TO AT LEAST BE SPREADING AS MUCH OF THE TRUTH ABOUT ALL PLACES WE ARE BLESSED TO EXPERIENCE IN ORDER TO REALLY SHARE USEFUL INFORMATION TO OUR TRAVELING BROTHERS AND SISTERS !!!!!!😁😁😁😁😁

I was born and raised here. You could have used a tour guide. You have an instinct for hitting the worst areas and avoiding the best. YOU MISSED THE COURTHOUSE SQUARE!! The first 9 minutes you managed to find "the projects," public housing on the impoverished north side. Still, Opelousas is almost unrecognizable from the vibrant, bustling Parish seat that it was. It's a ghost town now, a poverty town, with a declining population, a collapsing infrastructure and not an iota of community spirit.

As a native of this city, it’s an okay town
I wish you’d explored the south side of town along with downtown to see the more historical buildings and down Creswell Lane
Sadly there isn’t any entertainment places or much retail at the moment

Hello!!! Opelousas is my hometown. I couldn’t wait to come home on leave or vacation when I served in the Army 🇺🇸. Currently our city is in need of help due to lack of care to provide a safe environment for children to grow without succumbing to death by gun violence ⏳. In order for our city to flourish it will take people who are about showing up working hard providing selfless service. City water system is in need of an overhaul as well as city streets. Library should’ve been remodeled or rebuilt to accommodate every family M-Saturday. There are numerous fast food places including delicious boudin yet less clothing stores suitable to shop 👗. If our city and parish council would focus on being more community oriented 👑 💝then our population would thrive. Jesus take the wheel 🙏 ☮️ 📖

Born and raised in Opelousas.. the problem with the violence is the same as the roads! It’s corrupt AF!!!! Greedy politicians running businesses out and that where the pot holes start and the murders too! I remember in the 80s when almost everyone spoke French .. now it’s rare to hear. It had a population of 25,000., now it’s like 15,000. Worst roads in the country and the highest taxes… hmmm how does that add up??? It’s sad
