This was the first Pokemon game I played. I remember my grandma was actually interested in Pokemon and her favorite was chikorita. She would repeat the name because she thought it had a cute ring to it I even went out of my way to trade some of my cards for a chikorita so I could give it to her as a gift. Today I purchased crystal through the 3ds store. I'm going to soft reset until I get a shiny chikorita and I'm going to name it Deborah in loving memory of my grandmother. I will never evolve it :) I miss you grandma.
That sounds ... so ... so ... beautiful , you are a such a loving , caring person
Pathetic trying to get attention with your dead grandma
Nice try, but your story sounds very contrived and purposefully scripted to feel as touching as possible.

My favorite addition to Gen 2 is the EXP bar... I know, really simply, but damn it made leveling up so much easier and enjoyable for me.
ZeroSilence91 I want to give you two likes so you level up faster
Yeah! It was a lot easier then going into your menu repeatedly.
Gotta agree.
I didn't even realise Gen 1 didn't had that until I read your comment. I'm so much used to all that luxury I guess.
*simple
Gold version was my first Pokémon game that I ever played, and it will always have a very special place in my heart
Just got gold with a new save battery from a local game store i just found near me got yellow stadium 1 and a tranfer pak for my 64 also
Mine was silver, and I played that game all the time and did so much with little knowledge
@@autastic4577 those are some nice buys 😁

@Cristian the great toast get out
Since Silver's Golbat eventually evolved into a Crobat, I guess his arc has completed; he had become a better trainer.
And I actually really liked that montage at the end. :)
The bug catching contest was how I caught my first shiny pokemon
Seriously? Which Pokemon did you catch if you don't mind me asking?
+RandomTens It's the only shiny I've ever caught in game. I don't own that cartridge anymore but it was a scyther, I vividly remember catching it and only got second place in the contest too!
Wow I got my first shiny there too, it was a caterpie.

My first all odds shiny was a Caterpie in the contest XD
Although, it was in SS.
Me too! I miss that blue beedrill I caught on my original Crystal...
I love he’s calling Miltank easy to kill while fighting her with a female starter?? It was the fact that she’d seduce all your Pokémon and then beat the shit out of you that made her so problematic. And female starters are rare lol
The damn milk drink and roll out whilst you’re immobilised. This comment brought back a horrifying past 😂😂
and looks like he got some lucky burn hax.
And 5 levels higher than her Miltank at that.
Just beat her Miltank first try with only three embers and I have a male Quilava. It really just depends on what starter you choose.
I beat her on my second try
Suicune's a pure water-type, dude..
Joker i thought was pure ice
Derek Walter Nooooo, 😨😱
For a short while.. all of the ice moves made me think it was a water ice type.. that was quickly changed..
Well thanks for letting me know, always thought there was something odd...should have looked that one up back then. :D
Looking Cool Joker
I really prefer the aesthetics of the gen 2 pixel-y sprites over the modern sprites.
you forgot to talk more about Silver, since you know, he has a CROBAT
why is that special?
ChaosN because it shows that silver eventually came to care for Pokemon as in order to evolve a Golbat into a crobat it needs a high happiness level.
Interesting.
@@dodgy1752 I played there Crystal and he had a Golbat still, infact his entire team was either unevolved or weak single stage Pokemon besides his starter which I found funny since he claimed to have a strong team. Anyways unless there's another fight after he stops you before the elite four then something ain't adding up
@@r.r815 you fight him in Mount Moon and he has Crobat
On the cons, I think possibly the reason why they left the Kanto part the way they did was because of the limitation of small memory. It's kind of a miracle they fit two regions on that tiny GBC cartridge.
they did a amazing job of putting Kanto in with the second gen games it made it even better to play
@@lunathelooneyone69 I remember not knowing anything about Kanta in Crystal and was so shocked and surprised when I discovered it one night by randomly surfing. 20 years later and it's still my fave gaming memory ever.
GS/C were such amazing sequels, it makes me sad how dull Pokemon games are now.
Their first sequels introduced breeding, shinies, day/night and the concept of post-game content
How are the new games dull? They added so many things that make the games more enjoyable and are, mechanically, visually and story wise so much better

That is probably why they were the gym leaders...

In my pokemon soul silver, i chose cyndaquil, but what i didn't know, my cyndaquil was special
it had a red back
i thought that the starters shone like shinies
i had no idea until my friend got heart gold and also picked cyndaquil, i notest that his didn't shine and was blue
i still have that cyndaquil in my copy of sun and if i had a pokemon in real life, it would definitely be that cyndaquil
How did you move it to Ruby/sapphire/emerald?
Shiny cyndaquil has a brown back. Normal has a black back. If you’re gonna make shit up then make it believable. Nobody cares that you can lie in a comment section
@@ibdean1873 Colour is subjective, I consider normal cyndaquil blue personally and shiny red

I can actually stand to look at these games graphics . Don't get me wrong i know the impact red and blue had and the graphics by 1990's standards are pretty good for a game boy . But god ! do gold , silver and crystal look good even now .
And now we can play all 3 on the virtual console.
Yeah... It was on the Game Boy Color after all. We grew up with handhelds with great limitations to graphics and audio. Having Gen II in colour was a much needed move. Sometimes, less is more when it comes to graphics.
It's one of the best looking games on the Game Boy Color.
Gen I definitely looks very messy nowadays, but Gen II has this clean retro vibe that still stands the test of time. The switch to GameBoy Colour definitely made a difference.
Gen 1 looks bad even in yellow. You can tell that they still had the original gameboy limits in place whenever the game has only two different colors displayed on the over world.
To be perfectly honest, my least foavorite thing about this game is the level curve and level grinding. Because of the critically low levels in wild AND trainer Pokemon, grinding is a massive chore in gen 2, and it's hard to get on par with the 8 gym leader and the elite four. I'm currently replaying Blue version on the 3DS(Pokemon20 yay!) and I just beat Sabrina and most of my team has been on par with the bosses of the game with minimal level grinding. Mind you, level grinding is always a problem in Pokemon (except for Gen 6, but that's a whole different can of worms.) but it's especially tedous in Gold, Silver, Crystal, and the remakes.
It's actually not hard in the remakes at all. As soon as you get 7 badges which is really the part where the level curve becomes noticiable, you can rematch trainers continuously sort of like using the Vs Seeker. Even then though if you battle all of the trainers you would have enough levels.
I agree. Basically the only way to play the game without grinding massively is to sweep to entire game with one or two Pokemon.
Daniel Quinlan in gen 5, if your Pokemon is a lower level then the opponent you gain more exp. so it was super easy to grind, it's just there is a level spike that throws you off
In my second playthough of soulsilver i had to spend HOURS training in victory road for the elite four and my first playthrough I only used a pidgeot beacuse i loved a giant birb following me so she was a extremely high level 70 while the rest of my mons were in the 40s I had so much trouble with lance😂
that's some serious dedication! I did a similar thing with getting a volcarona (interesting how late gen5 mons evolve)
I respect this review but feel so distant by the fact that all the pokemon in the cons were memorable to me lol
Great Review! It's been an awesome year, and I'm looking forward to what you have coming up for next year!
Thanks for your unwavering support and love Retro! Also thanks for being an Electabuzz in my playthrough! I couldn't have beaten Lance/Silver without you! :)
even though I'm far and away a gen1er, I'm blown away by how much I love the character designs in gen 2. they're very memorable overall... wow
Suicune is Water type... Even though its the color of ice and is called the Aurora pokémon...?
Mark Spangler Yep...
Lugia isn’t a water type, even though it has so many connections to water. It’s Flying Psychic instead.
It's because the other legendary beast are electric and fire type it balanced it out being just water type... Although they couldbe made the legendary beast ice type Suicune .. Dark type Raikou... and steel type Entei for the new typings they added and given Suicune its right typing
Thank god. Suicune as an ice type would have been a waste
Gen 2 will always be my favorite because of the fact you can explore two regions
The reason a lot of people found Whitney's Miltank tough was simply because it was a type match up not a lot of kids knew at the time, mostly because they've never had to deal with it, and also because it was a lot of kids 1st or 2nd RPGs in their life. I remember getting rekt several times by it just because it was the first time one of the games through a large level spike ahead of me, meaning I couldn't just effortlessly force my way through with Ember and whatnot.
Missing the pokemon is the result of the pokemon having a very low catch rate at that health.
The number of shakes in gen 1 corresponded to the chance that you would catch the pokemon. "You missed the pokemon" just means that there is the lowest possible tiered chance that you will roll a number that corresponds with a "capture". The only thing that giving a status condition does is increase your catch chance overall: it doesn't cause you to miss less except in the effect that it may cause your capture roll to lie in the greater probability.
Edit: to be clear, I DID enjoy the video though 😅
This.
Missing Pokeball was mechanicaly nothing wrong or special, it still "exist", just game instead of saying you that you missed the ball give you a no-shake failed capture. It's nothing realy big or annoying if one know about it, but i guess for most people it was more annoying and confusing and i agree with changing that.
I hate how the anime has convinced everyone that the protagonists were always 10. I don't think any of them actually were, the youngest being RBY and SM at 11.
They have always been 10.
@@tsumiakuma9952 1. it has been a full year since I posted this, 2. I'm literally right, go to the bulbapedia pages for the different player characters. Red was 11 in RBY, Brendan and May were 12 in ORAS, Hilbert and Hilda were 14 in BW, and Elio and Selene were 11 in SM and USUM. All the ones I didn't mention do not seem to have canon ages. So, not a single game protagonist with a canon age was under 11. How exactly have they always been 10?
@@thecarptain ten is the default everyone goes to. Stop takijg it so literally theyre all around ten, that 2-3 years dont make a difference when your characters are fighting gods so

@@tsumiakuma9952 What was the point of your response if not to try to correct the statement I made? The fact that it's not really a large age gap isn't the point, I stated a pet peeve of mine that was admittedly pedantic, but it was based on facts, if your take was that it doesn't matter, you should have said that, but instead you said something demonstrably false.
Correction: Masuda AND Go Ichinose (and Morikazu Aoki, less importantly) worked on the music...
...and it is far better than Gen 1's soundtrack IMO. Plus it includes remakes of almost every song from the Gen 1, so yeah.
Yes 🥰
Crystal will /always/ be my favourite.
At the end of the day it makes sense, to me at least, that legendaries would be roaming rather then just sitting in a cave somewhere
Yeah, just like Ho-oh flies free in the animation series!
Gen 1 & Gen 2 were so lit when they came out back then and they still are..those generations drove us 90 babies crazy lol all the other gens can just go
Speak for yourself, Gen 3 is where it’s at.
Gen 4 and 5 are where it’s at
I started during Gen 1, playing Pokemon yellow on the gameboy pocket. I then bought Silver when it came out and it took me awhile to get used to the extra 100 pokemon, Dragonite being my all time favorite pokemon and the one I took up as my main pokemon. Now look...we have over 8 generations of pokemon....wow.. Though Pokemon Black is beginning to grow on me. Soul Silver will always be my favorite of all the pokemon games.
If you picked Chikorita you picked hard mode. If you picked set mode and Chikorita, you chose nightmare mode.
One more thing I want to praise about this game, is the pokemon sprites, specifically in crystal.
They are the sweetest of all icings on a cake! The look official. They are clean, pleasing yet they all have personality.
Absolutely beautiful, the detail to lighting on each of them is simple yet very effective. They are the best sprites in the series.
I like silver sprites a little better but I get what you mean
Missing a throw was reskinned to a ball doing zero shakes in the next games. I guess that's an example of a visual change going incredibly far.
That makes absolutely no sense, and is in no way true.
@@ShaftCommander how is that not true? In gen 1 you could 'miss' a throw, but it was functionally the same as a ball doing 0 shakes. The catching calculation still happened as normal when a ball missed in gen 1.
It was a purely visual change that gen 2 did that made quite a large difference in how people think of the game.
Okay this is crazy. I literally started playing Crystal again a few days ago and just beat Morty. I've been watching a ton of Pokemon vids lately so guessing that's literally the only reason I found this. Very well done review. I still feel its my duty 4 years later though to tell you that Suicune is a water type though. Yeah I know... I know.
Seriously though, I remember playing silver/crystal heaps as a kid. Its beyond insane how nostalgic I feel for this gen. There's been some cool things added over the years, but I probably would have been perfectly okay if these were the last entries in the series. The newer remakes are cool, but the 1 thing that bugs me about the remakes is probably the smallest possible thing you can think of: the music. I know you can change it to the old 8 bit style in Kanto, but I have a stupidly hard time dealing with it otherwise.
While Kanto is quite limiting in some aspects, its actually beyond impressive what they did to have it all fit on the 1 game and how much work they had to do that went into that. I keep having to remind myself that there are 16! Fucking gyms in Gen 2. Also I just love how 90s the originals feel. Like getting an email was the coolest thing ever and being able to call people. That's the other thing I loved about Crystal particularly. Each character that would call you had their own personality. I kinda wish they would have dynamically leveled with you in the game a bit to give the rematches some more personality. Over all though, there are just too many reasons to suggest why gen 2 is so amazing.
Time to become the best like no one ever was.
It's funny to me that he says "graphically it may not hold up" because the art style of this gen is actually my favorite out of all of them. Maybe it's cause I played this game when it was new though, I don't know.
The art style
Is cool . It’s a gameboy game so
It’s not going to look like switch graphics
I still remember when I was deeply bored, and something told me, to look for the pokemon games. Pretty much that's how I found out about Crystal. I randomly picked up Totodile, and my adventure with Pokemon games has just begun. Since that day, Crystal reached the position of my favourite Pokemon game ever, and Totodile's evolution line (especially Feraligatr) and water types in general, my main choice.
I played untill gen 3 but god was it fun.
I remember playing with my old neighbourhood friend he had gold and i had silver. We completed almost the whole game sitting next to each other
I am so nostalgic for the National Park Theme, even though I didn't play gen 2 until last year...I played the GB Sounds in National Park on Heart Gold all the time and I fell in love with the tune. Not sure why, but it gets me really emotional now and when I played through Crystal with my friends, I started crying when I got to National Park
Im.glad I'm not the only one when I hear some tunes I start tearing too like cinnabar Island and celadon city themes reminded me of little ice cream 🚚 from back in the day and real good mememeries

miltanks high defense+attract+roll out which is super effective against flying and fire types are the reasons why it was so hard to beat.
the fact that the first 2 gyms were easy as fuck compaired to the third made it even worse.

Andrei Valdez Switching out puts you at a disadvantage if militant decides to hit you with rollout or a stab move.

Amie Mallich "unown" "psuedo legendary"
LOL! Unown has some of the lowest stats in Pokémon history. That was a weird comment for sure. I have never heard anyone call Unown that before!
@@Danielschroeder I mean, pseudo legendary as we know is fan-made term meaning powerful and strong 600 BST Pokemon from 3-stage evolution line that is usualy pain in ass to train. But it's still just a fan-made term that some old shits like me were not using in our times lol. Unown is pretty much literaly a pseudo-legendary Pokemon - It's a Pokemon with actual legend, lore and a bit of mystery attached to it but it's not 1 per game as most legendaries, in fact it's pretty easy to obtain, is not nearly as strong as actual legendaries and it's story is not so big or important as Ho-Oh's or Suicune's.
RandomTens calling it pseudo legendary did not made a mistake, it's just that he ignored the fact that this term for most players means something different.
I have a similar experience with Silver in the sense of it being one of my first Pokemon games that was legit mine not to mention it being gifted to me. However, I got it as a birthday present rather than a Christmas present.
Gen 2 has & always will be my favorite generation. HG/SS are my all time favorite Pokemon games, even though technically aren't gen 2. Silver was my first main series Pokemon game(pokemon snap & stadium were my actual firsts). Totodile & his evolutions are my all time favorite starters, as well as most of my favorite pokemon coming from gen 2, such as sneasel, kingdra, & noctowl to name a few. I love going back to Kanto later in the game & seeing all the familiar places & people. Lugia, Celebi, Suicune, & even Ho Oh are also some of my favorite legendaries.
My only problem with HG/SS are that you can't go to the Sevii Islands, but I can look past that.
PS: Don't fuck with Sunflora.
This was the generation I more or less grew up with as a kid born in 2002. I say more or less, because I’ve never been that much into Pokémon but some people in my family were and I remember seeing them play this and I got a Pokédex toy for Christmas once and it had figures of those 3 ultimate Pokémon. I’m starting to get more into Pokémon right now as a 17 year old and I’m starting from the beginning, I can’t wait to make my way up to the generation 4 cartoon and games, where it all really started for me

Fuck with Remoraid and you're fuckin with Octilley. Ain't nobody fuck with Octillery.
i think Gen 2 is probably my favorite gen overall, i like playing as a girl so i dont really like not having that option in Gen 1, so for me the gen 2 games are the most nostalgic and familiar games for me personally in the same way that the gen 1 games are for a lot of people, everything i loved is turned up to 11 in the remakes but i think Gen 2 succeeds in creating a distinctly memorable and natural map for Johto itself, i feel like when i still play Kanto games (despite playing through Kanto in Gen 2, the gen 2 remakes, and the gen 3 remakes of gen 1) i still feel the need to look at the map because the layout of the world makes no sense there but i never feel that way with Johto itself
Omg Whitney must have been an easy leader cause your starter is female
BetterNew Learn to play the game. It's always dumb kids who don't understand why they're not handed easy victories who whine and cry. Attract's ailment is cured by switching or - get ready for this - catch more Pokemon and maybe have one be female. Idiots.
+Andrei Valdez
You're wrong. Whitney is an objectively difficult gym leader with little in the way of counterplay (not unbeatable tho) if you didn't catch the right pokemon or are brazenly overleveled.
Miltank's stat total is absurd for this stage of the game. It's a wall with reliable recovery, stalling in the form of attract and raw power using it's stab and rollout. The bulk, stalling and recovery allow it plenty of chances for rollout to scale.
If that wasn't bad enough, they decided to slap a lum berry on that thing in later gens.
Attract is hardly the reason why this Miltank is so dangerous and if you sacrifice a turn to cure attract, you're already in a bad position, should Whitney decide to rollout.
Beat Whitney as an incompetent 10 year old many play throughs with no problems.
ingenjannik the game gives you numerous chances to beat her. You can catch rock types very early on, such as geodude or onix. There is also a trainer in the goldenrod shopping mall that trades a hypno for machop. Whitney is only as difficult as you make her

Out of everything you can catch before Whitney these are literally the only 3 pokemon that do well against Whitney. "Whitney is an objectively difficult gym leader with little in the way of counterplay (not unbeatable tho) *if you didn't catch the right pokemon* or are brazenly overleveled."
Thank you for proving my point.
My first game was Pokemon Blue and when gold and silver came out it was so cool back then that the game had different colors and new pokemons. I would spend hours every day to play it as a kid. Those were the good times.

This was great. Gen 2 was always my favorite, and I've never really looked into why it was. This just made me realize things I'd never thought of before. I've been a fan of Pokemon for 16 years, and this video was great.
Keep up the good work! You're doing excellent.
Wow thanks so much for the positive feedback! Gen 2 is one of my favorite generations so this one was a blast to make and I'm glad you enjoyed it! :)
physical and special moves were determined by the type of the attack
Which is why the game was still terribly unbalanced contrary to what he said. It's still great, but like Gen 1 very few Pokémon out of the 251 are competitively viable and Pokémon with great stats have terrible moves, no stab etc.
@@galararticuno9419 Yeah, which is makes the competitive scene for older Pokémon games practically obsolete. That’s why whenever you see talks about it whether it’s through TH-cam, Smogon or Twitter, it’s through the newer generations.

Great work, I might want to emulate this :))
I really dont think that remakes should make the game any less fun!

Unmentioned gripe: The movesets ruled out a lot of pokemon from the get go. And the missing Kanto legendaries could have been released after beating Red (him giving up)
They are bring these games except for crystal to the virtual console on 3DS systems we can enjoy Gold and Silver without worrying about the clock battery.
We already can with emulator
Ah sweet memories...
I do agree with a lot that you said in this review. Though I don't really mind that there wasn't much in terms of stakes here, but then again, I am someone who plays Pokemon just to relax.
As for the Kanto thing, I think the reason it was watered down was because of limitation since there is apparently data of the Safari Zone.
Also, if you play Crystal on the 3Ds, you can actually get Celebi after beating Lance.
If there was one complaint I could give it would definitely be the grinding. I mean, for most of Johto it isn't too bad. At least up to Claire it's pretty manageable, but after that, it starts to get more tiresome once you reach Kanto since they for some dumb reason kept the wild Pokemon levels as they were in the originals. Sure there are a lot of trainers to fight but still, it's pretty bad.
Still love Johto. Definitely one I go back to quite a lot.
There is no way that silver is the best rival, In my honest opinion, N was the best rival of any pokemon game and probably will be the best villain for all the games to come. Black and White have the best story and sense of immersion of all the games.
Pranesh Singh i personally think platnium has a better story but i agree with n being the best rival
not to mention some damn good songs and having the fastest pace, literal battle speed and progression included/ESPECIALLY (yo audino was a godsend)
Honestly the only redeeming qualities about these games for me is some of the new mechanics they've added. Like breeding, day and night cycle and held items. Other than that silver is like the only good part about the game!
Here are my criticisms about the game. Has obvious level scaling issues so if you don't play with daily amount of progress you'll be put in a position where you have to grind for several hours. The game never explains its mechanics and relies on third-party game guys which were often wrong. So if you're not a Pokemon professor natto you're not in a position to outplay the computer. Kantos a Barren Wasteland and has nothing to do in it other than a Boss Rush of the gym leaders! Only three Johto gym leaders have a-1 Johto native Pokemon on their team! Half of the Pokemon in the game have a chance to run from you, a lot of the pokeballs you can craft with Kurt don't even work because of poor programming! Other than the Moonstone you can only get one of every evolutionary item
*says Whitneys Miltank isn't that bad*
*has female starter*
Hm... I wonder why ... xD
No but Gen 2 is absolutely amazing. The music, the towns, the pokemon, everything is just perfect. I adore Gen2
long time I didn't follow your videos because of my studies>
Why did you say Apricots? It's Apricorns. A fictional ingredient to make the Pokéballs. My OCD bugged me when you said that.
on Christmas morning. I think on 2010 or 2011 i received Pokemon Soul Silver and a Nintendo DSI XL. and that got me into the games. I played it over and over again. i loved it so much it is always with me
I never know why i tend to confuse skarmory's original generation. Its 2nd gen but i always think its originally from hoenn. Maybe its ORAS but idk tbh
its because you played gold, like me and we didnt have skarmory xD and in gen 3 it was hyped XD
+Silver Hetch trueee
It's design looks Hoenn-ish. Also I confuse Munchlax's gen as 3rd
I feel old. For me, I confuse it because of Emerald.
It’s validating to see so many people also confuse Skarmory as a Gen 3 Pokémon. I started with LeafGreen then jumped to Emerald & Sapphire so I encountered Skarmory there first through Hoenn Route 113.
It makes sense why even some people who’ve played through Gen 2 first may make this mistake, though. Skarmory appears very late into the main story of Silver and Crystal and it has a 5% encounter in both (Being 0% at night in Crystal), making it very easy to miss entirely. If you have Gold, like me recently, you were SOL.
Thank you Stan, you had me crying. I got Pokemon Crystal for Christmas in 2001 along with a Gameboy Color. It was my first ever Pokemon game, and my first ever handheld game. You may think you gushed too long about the game, but I loved every second of it. Thank you for this homage to one of my favorite games. Also, Totodile was my first starter as I'm partial to water types. But I think Cyndaquil is the most memorable Pokemon I played with besides my Feraligatr I took on the Elite Four with single-handedly.
Apricots?
Also love how you called Entei a "Dumb mutt" gonna have to catch him and name him that 🤣
Soo... when are we getting the Gen 3 review? :3
+Thunder Squeak Oh it's coming...
+RandomTens still waiting...
I love the quality of your vids! Make More vids to be honest! This is an underrated pokeyoutuber! Please keep it up!!!
best gen ever IDGAF about gen 3 fanboys
Happy 20th anniversary you beautiful generation
I knew I wasn't the only one who didn't ever find Miltank difficult
One thing that urked me about these games (Gold was my FIRST Pokemon game ever so I love me some Gen II); the fact that you are under-leveled when it comes time to face the Pokemon League. I believe Silver states that he defeated ALL trainers in Victory Road (explains why the cave itself is EMPTY) and you're almost always going to be about 10 levels or so below even Will (the first member of the league you have to fight).
This is me talking about even if you battle EVERY TRAINER in the game! This sucks even in the remakes!
Luckily you had a female starter when you fought Whitney otherwise you'd get locked into Miltank's attract.
syxodude91 Nope. Just switch. It removes Attract's ailment. Quit crying, stop asking for everything to be easy, and learn to play the game before complaining.
Who's crying? who's complaining? Not asking for it to be easy. Just making a simple observation. I know all of that already but switching does nothing when it outspeeds your entire team because it will just go for attract again. There's a difference between a hard battle and an annoying battle, Calm down dude and stop making assumptions.
@@andreivaldez6713 Switching isnt a good strategy. It'll only work if you get lucky and she somehow misses rollout. Even with sand attack, she rarely missed rollout when I fought her. Some are just luckier than others.
Oh hey, the Ore Monogatari opening theme! Good show, forgot about it till I heard that familiar melody at the end. Solid video, montage was a little cheesy, but very nice. Good work!
25:28 what film was he referencing?
Isn't that Entei's movie?
not sure, idk the movies at all
You mean Spell of the Unown?
It's Grease 2.
Gen 2 is my absolute favorite Pokemon Gen. First gen I played....(even though it was the remake versions along with fire red). This Gen has most of my favorite pokemon in here, Favorite starters (Totadile and Cyndaquil), favorite legendarys (Lugia and Entei), favorite eeveelutions, and my all time favorite pokemon Houndour/Houndoom.
this gen means so much to my childhood and my nostalgic feeling towards pokemon.
Absolutely love the review guys. Can't wait for what 2016 brings on out
It sounds like you and I grew up together as I actually feel the same way about all of those Pokemon you mentioned. I will say that gen 2 has been dethroned as my favorite generation though, but I'll get into that another time! ;)
Thanks as always for watching and making this year the best of my life Devin!
P.s. I named my Raikou after you! I just barely got to use him...
It would've been kick ass to grow up together lol
Ooh I can't wait to see what gen dethroned Gen 2 lol
You're very welcome. You guys made my 2015 a lot more bearable tbh
I need to see photos of this beauty lol
I love how he says Whitney isn't that hard yet his starter is like lvl 25. Of course it isn't that hard if you only trained one Pokemon.
MrSupersonic2012 It's also easy if you know how to play. Learn how to play instead of crying because the game isn't giving you easy wins. Just switch to heal Attract's ailment or use a female Pokemon, lmao. Git gud.
Andrei Valdez It's almost like a lot of people played this game when they were children or something? I mean that makes absolutely no sense, everyone knows Nintendo games are strictly for adults, I mean how could any child get their hands on a game as graphically violent and with as much profanity and nudity in it as Pokemon Crystal? How about you take your knowledge of a child's video game and put it to good use, and that doesn't mean insulting strangers online to make you feel good.
After it happening over 200 times my dad was the one that said my pokemon was falling in love and me as a 7 year old was like whaaaaatttt???!!!
It's also a lot easier if you simply have a female who is resistant to it's attacks.
I agree about the legendary dogs. For me, it was more fun to just start a new game on another version of Gold/Silver/Crystal, acquire the master ball and make a pokemon hold it. Then trade it over to my game. It was less of a pain than actually pursuing the legendary dogs.
Facts they were a pain 😪 they we're hard to find
the best generation, it even included gen 1 too
Gen 2 _expanded_ on gen 1. And it did an amazing job at that. While not introducing all too many new pokemons, it expanded on several pre existing transformation trees, introduced new and improved systems and features. A lot of worthless pokemon were made viable through new transformations and niche use cases. Onix, Porygon, Golbat and Scyther got competitively strong transformations, we got the held item system, which allowed for an arsenal of new strategies, we got moves like sweet scent, Mean look and headbutt which made you reconsider keeping that weaker pokemon who happend to be the only party member knowing the move. And of course, SHINIES.
Gen 1 and 2 go hand in hand, literally.
One day, i hope we'll get a Kanto/Johto game where both continents have a lot to do in them, and get the same amount of polish and love. As sadly, Kanto was primarily there for you to clear the remaining gyms and catch a Snorlax, with no further story progression of it's own.
What I liked about this gen tho at least there was more things to do though I admired that though
As good as Gen 2 is, the sequels are so much better. In some ways, they make Gen 2 look ancient.
+Arcane Toaster
Story-wise, Pokemon addition wise and the Kanto-trip Gen2 is easily superior. Gen3 did a TON of things right on the basis of mechanics and comfort-features though. Everything after Gen3 really weren't big steps anymore.
+PresidentScrooge I think the newer games are way better, even in gameplay AND advancements.
+Arcane Toaster Well except for the chiptune device. That made me mad since you don't get until you beat the game (I think).
Which is the point of a remake which is the reason that pokemon lets go pikachu was made there are new generation that know about kanto but haven't experienced it due to the 3ds basically becoming obsolete and most don't know what a gameboy is and I can't fault them for that
@@ArcaneToaster Lol, you're mad. They're dumb now. Even the Pokemon are lame.
Some of the newer games are pretty amazing, Fire Red and Leaf Green, HG/SS obviously, and even Sun and Moon. Honestly Gen 2 is still such an amazing series even to this day, and that's why I'm still playing it even now.
I know not everyone can have this mindset, but when I play the game these days part of it is just marveling at how much of a landmark title and improvement it was over the originals. You don't get that same impression with newer titles, or at least not nearly as much.
The best gen is gen 2
I remember i got Gold along with some enamel pins of Ho Oh and Lugia when my parents renewed my subscription to Nintendo Power
it's 8.5 because of the graphics....christ, dude sorry it's not PS4.
What does that mean? The graphice just doesn't hold up as well as games like platinum, emerald and the gen 5 games
One of my biggest problems with Gen 2 is how half of the gym leaders, and the champion, don't actually use any Gen 2 Pokemon. Like it's crazy how despite the newer games having fewer new Pokemon overall they were pretty much always able to have each boss character use at least 1 new Pokemon, often more. I know the newer games get flack for referencing Gen 1 to much, but it feels like Gen 2 didn't even wanna be a new game.
Raikou, Entei and Suicune are cats, not dogs.
Agatha isnt Karen's daughter
+ewproductions
if we are going to be as correct as possible they are legendary beasts that at least is what they are called by the pokemon company's own words / every event they have been released in ;-), calling them legendary cats or dogs is purely fan made so your wrong about them being cats just as people who are calling them dogs are wrong :-)
Potato
THEY ARE LEGENDARY HAMSTERS, DAMMIT.
Raikou is obviously a cat, and the other two are obviously dogs just based on their paws and facial structure.
Specifically, Raikou is a Saber-toothed tiger, in a more literal sense than an actual Smilodon (Has stripes, big teeth, learns roar, looks very similar to old Asian art of tigers ).
Entei is a lion, but looks the most dog like of the three thanks to Asian Foo-dog influences (Has a mane, is the slowest but most physically powerful, also learns roar, Pokedex cites that its Roar is legendary)
And Suicune is a Cheetah (Runs everywhere, has spots, doesn't learn roar because cheetahs can't roar)
I still call'em Legendary Beasts, but they're still cats in my mind thanks to all those factors.
Great video to end a great year!
Also, how did you know I love suicune. It's just got that fabulous hair you can't ignore.
Well I just thought, "hey, you know who has fabulous hair and loves running across vast bodies of water? Superugly18!".
Seriously though, thanks for being such a big part of this year man. From amiibo shortages, to 2December, it was a wild ride!
+RandomTens You know me man
And thanks for making my year special too, I can't wait to see what 2016 holds!
whitney not that hard huh? next time try it without over leveled pokemon
She is easy in gen 2, but an nihtmare in the remakes.
She's still easy with under-leveled Pokemon. Just do this one simple trick: learn how to play and stop crying when the game doesn't offer you easy victories.
I watched other pokemon reviews in English, but to be honest, these are the best ones! they deserve more views :)
Everyone knows that Gen 3 has the best starters. All 3 are great. Every other gen has a runt or two, Bulbasaur, Chicorita, Chimchar, Tepig, Fennekin and Chespin. No matter how much I like these, these generally are least favorite. Chimchar can be argued due to the hate being generally based on the whole Fire-Fighting thing. Now I like all the starters, but how many people pick Bulbasaur or Chicorita? Does anybody not pick Froakie? (I like Chespin but that's beside the point.) But between Treeko, Mudkip, and Torchic, then it depends on who you are talking to, time of day, and if they're tired of mudkipz memez.
Of course this is all subjective, and I love the stage 1 starters for Gen 2 as a whole best, but IMO Sceptile, Blaziken, and Swampert lines are the best, not even putting Mega-Evolutions into the equation. (Also I think Treeko is better than an of the other starters, and Emerald is my favorite Pokemon game, even if it wasn't my first, so I might, definitely, be biased.)
I do like the Gen 2 pokemon overall more than Gen 3, though I love gen 3.
I think I'm gonna go play Heartgold again.
AwesomeName7 lol man bulbasaur is still reaaaaallly popular. a gen 1 runt is like a gen 5 favourite. its juat a matter of which ones were your first and marked u more as a kid
Eh, I like all the Gen 1, Gen 4, Gen 5, and Gen 6 starters.
Jean-marc Bottaro bulbasaur was OP in gen 1, leech seed and toxic :)
Chimchar a runt? It was the only good starter from Gen 4 and its typing would eventually let it be able to beat it its contemporaries.
Your opinion is bad and you should feel bad.
I mean while chimchar is easily the most "ayy yo im all u need fam lemme just shrek everyone," the other starters were still pretty usable in-game; water/steel and grass/ground were really cool type combos too (but I'm not disagreeing with chimchar being the MVP since fire/fighting has a ton of great coverage and can pretty much carry the whole game, especially since sinnoh kind of sucks with overall variety)
and also yo mudkip and treeko were pretty much the two carriers, though I do find swampert had some very solid overall coverage (I gave mine surf/ice beam/earthquake/hammer arm way back in the day, for example), but sceptile's speed/decent TM power was alright too
I actually found blaziken the weakest link of the three starters until y'know he got speed boost and the physical/special split happened
but praise infernape
dat moveset tho
tldr: the gen 4 starters were pretty alright too, none of them were a BAD choice (that credit goes to gen 5+)
Back when I was in elementary school everybody had HeartGold and SoulSilver every year I asked for it and it didn't get a Pokemon game until White 2 came out I eventually got soul silver around the time Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire came out
