Absolutely right Jason. You don't need a Bartending certificate to be a Bartender, but here in Rhode Island and in most states you do need a TIPS card (certification) to be a Bartender or to serve and sell alcohol. " Alcohol Server Training is Mandatory for any person who sells or serves alcoholic beverages in Rhode Island. TIPS® is an approved program certificate: #103." Thanks Jason! I look forward to watching your videos every week!

In Alaska you have to buy a TAPS card to serve alcohol. It teaches you how to spot fake IDs, when to cut someone off, local liquor laws, how many ounces to serve, etc. If you miss more than 5 questions on the closed book test at the end you don't get your TAPS card.

I agree with you about the the license. It's very easy to get a license to serve. I live in Houston Texas and you only have to be 18 to serve? You can't drink it but you can serve it LOL. The license does nothing else but protect the bars from your over serving. To become a bartender it takes dedication and passion. Bartender schools are helpful but they overload you with so many recipes that you will never make. When's the last time you made a Sloe Comfortable Screw?
    Harvey Wallbanger?
    Rusty Nail?
    Exactly!
I like your style Jason!! Keep on doing what you love to do and teaching people the real deal about Bartending.

In Las Vegas we have to have a TAM card to handle alcohol, bartenders, wait staff, waitresses etc. We have to take a class to get one. =) Then a business lic. and maybe something to resell alcohol

Im glad you posted about Nevada! I am planning on moving to Las vegas and I am interested in bartending there. I read something online about a proctor exam before being able to bartend?

Do you have a video for getting your first bartending job or interview?

We have what's called a "liquor license" in Missouri. That covers bartenders and liquor delivery jobs.

In Washington, the serving license does touch on pours and types of alcohol. The information is limited just to pour size and alcohol content, which is like you said, just for safe serving practice.

Wisconsin! I had a class A alcohol licence. There was a class for responsible beverage service. How to check an ID, refusing sale, selling at the correct times ext. ext. I worked in a 24 hr. place, however, alcohol was only sold between 8:00 am and 11:00 pm. This varies based on the township or county. In Wisconsin, you must be 18 or in the presence of a licence holder. I sold alcohol at a truck stop.
Class A = drinks are consumed AWAY from the premises Class B = drinks are consumed at a BAR on the premises.

Can you make a video on getting bartending jobs for when u travel. How long do they expect you to stay, is a month or 2 doable? Do you work under the table? Any good ways of finding a job or just look through Craigslist? I can't remember how often you said you go back to Bali, but if it's yearly, do you go back to the same spot? etc. Thanks

Thanks, Jason, most appreciated. Am sure most of us can agree that many Bartender Schools just want your money. I did enroll in a school but the tuition was really minimal and the instructors were professional bartenders as well as passionate about their craft. Moreover, they offered me job placement upon graduation.
After talking with several bartenders, they've admitted that bartender school can be helpful in getting an idea of how to make the various drinks, but in no way an absolute necessity. Why? Because many bartenders have mastered their skills like most of us... Trial and error.

Tomm Scott has made a vedio on his chennal about one of the exception to the liquor surving licence in the UK. It says that you don't need a license to serve alcohol if you are one of three moving viclues.

Texas has this requirement for a certificate as well. I got certified today. I've never worked in a bar before but I have experience in the food industry. where do you think a good place to start applying would be?

Our school offers a Bartending course.. and passing the final assessment grants us the National Certificate that we can use to get jobs abroad (of course, relating to your course.) Will I need to go to another school to get a Bartending License?

I'm getting married and the venue Im getting is charging me 57$ to have alcohol and they said I need to have a bartender of there choice I'm im California my cousin in coming from Nevada and he has bartender license is he able to use it in California and we're not selling alcohol it's just for a wedding he also has a tam card

    • @BartendingPro
      @BartendingPro  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Hey Stephanie, good question. Weddings and venues are tricky... you always have to read the fine print on the contract, sometimes is mandates you have to use their people/services. This is why i say there is no such thing as a universal bartending license. His "license" is specific to the state of Nevada only, and only covers that states responsible serving procedures. Also, if the bartender is providing the alcohol in CA, the venue may also require that the bartender is bonded and insured. Again, gotta read the fine print. The only way you can completely do it your way is to negotiate that with a venue prior to signing a contract, or to proceed at a neutral location like a private residence. Hope that helps!
