    Tsuro is great as a sort of Icebreaker game because of the simplicity of it. My wife and I brought it to a family reunion full of non-gamers of various ages, and we all had a blast with it. It also plays very fast with 6 to 8 players.

      Yes, it's a quick playing game, no matter the player count!

    There's actually some very elegant mathematics behind this game.
    There are 35 tiles which correspond to the 35 possible ways you can connect the 8 points on the edges of each tile without creating duplicates (including rotational duplicates). So, each of the 35 tiles is unique (though some are mirror images of each other) and it's impossible to create a new tile that isn't functionally the same as another.
    The board has 36 spaces (6 squared which allows for a nice symmetrical board) leaving one last spot open for the victors to share at the end of the game (if the game doesn't end prematurely due to all but one player getting eliminated)
    You could in theory do the same with hexagonal tiles, but you'd need a board with 1800 places to house all 1799 possible tiles you could make and leave one spot at the end. Which curiously would fit on a board made of 25 concentric rings of hexagons if you black out the middle hexagon (otherwise it would have 1801 spaces).
    If someone would make this game, the science geek in me would force me to play this game exactly once.

    • @Hugh.Manatee
      @Hugh.Manatee 11 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Hmm.. 20 minutes of crazy mathematics spree further and I've figured out that there are 193 possible pentagonal Tsuro tiles. Unfortunately pentagons don't tile well on a 2 dimensional board. They do tile in 3 dimensions, but only up to 12; creating a dodecahedron (incidentally my favourite among the platonic solids (the D12 should get more love in games!)).
      In 4 dimensions it is possible to tile up to 1440 pentagons in a hyperdodecahedron, or infinitely many in a kind of hyperhelix with 3 dodecahedra around each edge that repeats every 10 iterations. Unfortunately I can't think of a nice regular shape that would fill the required 194 spaces on this board, but that might be because of my limited brain only being able to proces 3 dimensions.
      So if you're an extra-dimensional entity with access to 4 spatial dimensions, let me know if 4D pentagonal Tsuro is any fun.
      Hmmm... alternatively, I suppose you could use some kind of non-euclidean projection of pentagons with strange, invisible angles that... wait, what? .. Dear God! No, please, I'm sorry for disturbing your sleep great Cthulhu, I...

    A co-worker and I were chatting about his new purchase (not Tsuro) but then told me about it so I came and looked for a video on it.
    I like your format better than TT because you don't sensationalize it or try to cram so many games into one video.
    I did find your explanation informative and now I'm leaning to go and buy it for myself. :D

    • @WatchItPlayed
      @WatchItPlayed  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Steve, I'm really not sure how to answer this question (so I tend to avoid them :) ). I think it's going to depend a lot on the two people, and their interests, and what they expect from a game. Might be one to try out, if you can, to see if it works for you as a two player game.

    • @WhatHappenedFFS
      @WhatHappenedFFS 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Steve Nicholls Ah, no apologies necessary. I'm an odd duck about stuff like this. Most people don't hesitate to just give their opinion. I just never feel quite comfortable with it, in a public forum, where so many subjective variables are at play.

    Let's say you have 1 tile and the player next to me also has 1 tile.. (i have the dragon tile) Once there's cards to pick up do I pick up all the way up to 3? Or I pick one and let the next person pick one up too?

    • @WatchItPlayed
      @WatchItPlayed  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Interesting question! I shot this long enough ago, I 'm not sure if that can happen, or what the answer would be if that was to happen. Did you have that happen in a game, or is this more of a theoretical question? Since the rules don't officially cover it, I'd suggest coming up with a plan in advance for how you want to handle it, so it's clear beforehand, but I don't think this happens too often, so you're not likely to encounter it, thankfully.

      From the FAQ:
      "You have made a mistake somewhere. Your path should run from your starting point at the edge of the board to where you are now; this means endless loops are impossible. Try to figure out where you started, and trace your path again to where your pawn should be."
