This is a great review……! Nice and slow pace…. No loud talking and to the point….. Covers everything and explains in an easy to understand way …..👍 Dirty and clean tones ……. Perfect in my opinion…….!
The custom is by far my favorite LP model. Unfortunately for me, ever since Gibson moved production of these from the standard production line to the custom shop, they are no longer attainable. I'm seriously considering the Epiphone koa wood LP custom.
The LP custom has been built in the custom shop for nearly 20 years. I don't believe the price/quality changed all that much, as pre custom shop LPs sell used for the same kind of money. It feels like just yesterday where you could buy a used LP custom all day long for $2k or less.
Thank you for the in depth review Andres! I bought the Silver Burst Custom version. Epiphone's stepped up its quality control big time! I love all aspects of it. Great buy!
if the guitar was laquered with nitro, then silver burst will turn green after several years because nitro will turn yellow and gray plus yellow is green. i have '85 Gibson Studio with this effect
Two months ago, I got an Epiphone LP Modern...one of the tone knobs was easy to pull off...solution: use a screwdriver and slightly widen the split shaft...end of problem. Nice playing, nice review. Thanks Davor.
Cheers! Yep,no one sends a new Custom back! Keepers. We added Gibson pups and soon a real Gibson Les Paul was gathering dust ...so we sold it,kept the Epiphone. That Chinese neck, perfection.
Great review! Concerning the volume and tone pots coming off too easily , I would suggest taking the knobs off and with a slot head screw driver, very, very gently, pry the split shaft of the volume and tone pots a very small amount wider. You don’t need to spread the split shaft very much to make your dials fit snuggly. This has worked for me whenever needed, just be careful and never try this with plastic shafts, the CTS pots on this guitar are metal. Just passing along what has worked for me. You can decide if you think it is something worth trying. Cheers!
Excellent demo , as usual my friend. Thanks for going through the electronics and hardware explanations too . Epiphone's are very good value for the money . Please keep the videos coming. Much appreciated.
Hey man, thanks for the review! My wife just gave me the very same model for Christmas. I love it, it instantly became my go-to guitar. As for the scratches you pointed out, there aren’t any on my guitar, so maybe that was just bad luck? Still, I totally agree, this is a great guitar and can’t be beat for the price. Rock on! 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
Great review and fantastic playing too. I have the Matt Heafy version of this guitar which is similar to these. They’re not Gibsons but they get you in the neighborhood and for the price are a great value. Add a nice set-up and possibly a few upgrades if you want and these are hard to argue with. You can buy 4-5 or more for the price of 1 Gibson CS model. Sure, if you can spring for the Gibson and don’t look back. However, for most that’s not reality. The new IBG Epiphones are the best that Epiphone has ever been under the Gibson umbrella. Do I have Gibsons? Yes I do. Do I have and enjoy Epiphones? Yes I do. Very well done here!
Excelente!! Eu tenho uma Epiphone Standard de 2002, e realmente esse novo headstock está mais legal. Essa aí parece ser uma excelente guitarra, André. Bela aquisição! 👍🏼

Great demo.. Sadly i’ve just purchased one from new and it sounds awful.. I’ve a Blackstar practice amp and a Marshall valved amp and on both it sounds awful.. It stays in tune ok but? What are you playing yours through here? any pedals? i just don’t know where to go with mine perhaps it’s going to have to be sent back..
I just got mine and it sounds amazing. I’m using a GX100 and running it through two Katana Artist (power amp input). Start with your eq’s at zero and adjust treble, mid, bass, then presence in that order. Do this with your eyes closed so you are not shocked by the eq numbers and you’re only going off sound!
Great Video!:) I'm planning to buy a guitar but i'm hesitating between this model Vs epiphone les paul modern x) is there any difference in the playability... or something that makes the one better than the other? they look similar and i'm having trouble deciding which one should I get (btw I play Neo Soul/Jazz/R&B)
Hey! Thank you! I never tried the modern but I was between the two too, they should sound pretty similar, I believe the only difference besides the bells ans whistles in the modern is the neck profile. Still, they are both to the thinner side
For the styles you say you’re into, try finding an older Korean made 3 pickup “black beauty.” They are the most versatile and best quality versions of this guitar.

i just have been to a store to try this guitar… exact same issue with the knobs. I know it is an easy fix, but I just CANNOT accept paying nearly 700 EUR in a guitar that comes with such an absolute ridiculous flaw. Not happening… Also, I have played the much older Epiphone custom model, and realising that this new re-issue doesn’t have coil splits was a major set back to me. Just like that, you loose half the tone possibilities. This guitar is nowhere near its price range.
Yep, that’s pretty much it.. check the Revstar RS620 video that I made. Unless you don’t like the visual that’s what you want in that price range. Cheers
The 2021 Epiphone Custom Koa Les Paul is said to be the best Les Paul of 2021 American Master Builder Scott Lewis over at the Qingdao Epiphone facility definitely beat Gibson on this one

It’s a better choice than the Gibson, because the Gibson has got weight relieve, bad pickups, nashville bridge, etc. This Epiphone with better electronics and pickups is a winner.
Custom is not weight reliefed. Its One piece body and neck. Nothing wrong on the Nashville Bridge. Pickups are doe superior on the gibson doe, still doe a gibson custom is a +3k model
Ahh yes. The CTS pots everyone is talking about. Problem is, if you get the left handed version, they don't use lefty pots. Normally I can deal with that, they just turn the other way. But in this case they wired them backwards. Which basically makes the pot useless. All of the volume or tone adjustment is in the last 20%. Terrible experience. Looks like I'll have to rewire it. Too bad for the price. They could've used left handed pots. Everything else is perfect.
if they were made in japan theyd be like 2 grand and better than gibson lol. Dissapointing that theyre made in china... i would have hoped for korea and settled for indonesia. ill have to see one for myself
Definitely not on the same level of Gibson, I already had Gibsons, not sure if I will buy another again, just because, in my humble opinion, they are totally overpriced… and i prefer Yamaha Revstar and SG. There’s a lot to choose from these days, nothing against Gibsons, i used to be a big fan back in the day
