    In the unlikely event Josh reads this comment, (or more likely Joshua tells him) I can save you some time. I worked for Marshall when the blues breaker/drivemaster/shredmaster were released. I was a Test Engineer. For fault finding on that line they gave me the Circuit diagrams for the blues breaker , GUVNOR, & Shredmaster. I can tell you as an employee at the time of release; The Guvnor and Drive master WERE IDENTICAL at that time and the marketing copy was full of marketing BS a lot of which was significantly excessive in my I'm-a-very-factual-guy opinion. The Marketing team DID NOT hold my esteem. It's only "Improved" in the sense that the case is more practical in use. Do not waste time in that rabbit hole.

    I picked up the Bluesbreaker reissue and really like it, though I'm sure the clones out there are just as good. One thing that's useful for me is how clean it is until around one o'clock or so. I can really dial it up perfectly for a clean sound.

    The old mini pedal versions of the Blues Breaker and Guv'nor are pretty common and pretty cheap on the second hand market if you don't mind them being a little scuffed, and sound very similarly good.

    • @scotthutchens1203
      @scotthutchens1203 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @JackInTheBox You mean the version 2 of these that are a brushed metal finish? I agree with your statement. I have the Guv’nor version 2 with the concentric controls I got off of Reverb. A little used and not too expensive. There’s some hate for this pedal but I think it has an good authentic Marshall tone despite what some say even though it’s a production pedal. Having said that I also have Wampler’s Plexi-Drive Deluxe and other Marshall in a box pedals so I have boutique stuff to compare it to.

    I worked at Marshall’s in 1987, the silver jubilee year. From my faded memory I seem to remember that the Gov’nor was being developed by Steve Grindrod in that year. Before it was given the name Gov’nor, my friend who worked in the development dept suggested the name ‘dirtbox’, which for obvious reasons was turned down. LED clipping was already being used in Marshall valve amp designs and I seem to remember that the silver jubilee amps had LED clipping in the pre amp circuit. I tested many of these amps. Jim Marshall was indeed the Gov’nor, a great man to work for.

    What if you have a BluesBreaker going into a UAFX Lion ‘68? Would it be redundant?

    Not trying to be picky, but informative. The first A in Grenada, Mississippi is pronounced like the long A sound in “made”. It’s a classic southern town like Lebanon, TN or Haiti, MO that isn’t pronounced like it’s namesake.
    Great little town off I-55 and the Memphis-New Orleans rail route. That guitar may come from a tree that witnessed great delta blues. Special mojo tone wood 😊

    The Card Cutter. Image of a dealers hands cutting cards, but it cuts sound card clipping. There's the name and marketing. You're welcome, I will await my royalties 😅

    Although I owned some of the original pedals for a short time decades ago and soon sold them, because they never really convinced me, I never understood, why some of these pedals ever became so famous. For me the typical transistor / op-amp overdrive pedal sound, with - for me - too thin, too shrill treble and a lot of wrong harmonics, as tons of other - so called unique, authentically sounding - solutions also offer it.
    Not at all comparable with the tones of a real all tube (Marshall) amp.
    But thank you for the review, now I know, what I definitely do not need.

    Had a Guv’nor in late 88. Bought my girlfriend an original Rat. Actually liked the Rat better as it was easier to tame thanks to the filter knob.

      That filter knob is one of the coolest things ever added to a pedal.

    Josh, send the Kemper directly digital to the PC. Why are you resampling with such a piece of hardware?
