That was really good for a 1st time flight review! In fact, much better than my attempt, which I haven't posted anywhere yet. 😂

I love the window controls on the 787 sets the whole vibe in the cabin

No reason to keep the windows shade open. You can't see anything but clouds or open sky anyway. It's easier to sleep when the cabin is dimmed.

Fantastic review! Super underrated channel. Loved all the details and completely agree with you on personal control of the window shades! I flew a United 787 to Hong Kong back in August and they let us control them ourselves, I wonder if that's changed!

Flew Polaris business class from Guam to Hawaii and loved it. I was actually bummed when the flight was over. Best experience on a plane I’ve had, hands down.

Loved your review. I flew United Polaris in 2022 coming back from Italy. Loved it.

That's awesome! It's easily my favorite among all the US Options!

Nice job. I completely agree with you re: the FAs taking control of the window shades, and I avoid UA B787s now for that reason. The catering sucks, as does the chronic running out of ameneties that you paid for. I cannot imagine choosing United for this segment unless I had no choice but to pick a US carrier. Something you didn't cover: after the main meal service the flight attendants disappear to the galley to play with their phones for most of the remaining flight.

I just got recommended this but I'm so glad I did. Wonderful review, you are very endearing. If you ever get the chance to fly to Germany from DEN to MUC I'd be very curious to see how United's international business class service compares to Lufthansa's.

The 787-9 is nice because you have two sets of bulkhead seats with larger footwells! But the 10 is fun aircraft as well.

You were on a 787-9 BTW.
AND YES, the window should not be locked!

I personally disagree about the window dimming. If people see sunlight while awake, it's not conducive to the pineal gland/internal clock. Not EVERYONE wants to sleep? Sure, but this argument can go both ways. If you don't want to sleep and you have to stay up, then turn on your lights at your seats. The sunlight also often can cause glares on people's entertainment screens too.

      @SMPBG  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

It's okay to disagree, but the point is, that your SOL on any aircraft that has manual shades. Which is most international wide bodies. The point is that if you want to sleep, you have an eye mask to block out the light. There is no light mask for those who don't want to sleep. If there's an issue with the glares on the screens, that's an equipment issue, and not one the passenger paying for the window seat should have to deal with. My window shouldn't be dictated by non window seat passengers.

@@SMPBG But there is a "light mask" for people who don't want to sleep. It's your seat lights. You have a lamp, a reading light, an over-head-light, and an entertainment system to use if you don't want to sleep. All these things are "light masks" for people who don't want to sleep. I do agree it would suck if you wanted to look out the window, so I do sympathize. But realistically with that many people by windows there'd be almost no time at all on a flight where someone wouldn't want the window shade open. The business class section is designed specifically for business class travelers who prioritize sleep, so i do think its designed for that purpose. I think I can agree with you for first class tickets. Usually those suites are private suites anyway. That's really upper crust there. Almost all flights have manual shades to your liking, so maybe its good for us "dark" people have this one airplane to rejoice in.

@@lauramckenzie3801 If the light bothers people that bad, that's what the eye mask is for though. Just because that's not comfortable enough for some people doesn't mean I should have to sacrifice my window privilege's full stop.
This one plane on this one airline. This wasn't an issue on my Air Canada flight just the other day. I am still on the boat that if you want window control, book the window seat. My window my control.
And perhaps this is selfish, but another passengers light preference isn't my problem. It's a plane that can hold up to 242 passengers. It's not a private space.

Seems pretty poor compared to British Airways business class.

No US carrier compares to a mainline International Carrier.
