I’m really new to tanking and I enjoyed this video a lot. It’s interesting to see how the tanks line up with one another
My first tank was prot warrior and then blood dk and now I’m onto brewmaster, and all 3 have been fun. I’d love like small guides on each one and maybe also on the rogues next patch.

I started tanking with brewmaster, im sticking to brewmaster. The intensity and playstyle is so different, challenging, unique to other tanks. This spec is defo for people who loves a challenge

I'd love to see role crossover videos, e.g. "How to heal/help the different tanks," or how tanks can help dufferent DPS specs do more damage, etc. (You touched on keeping yourself alive as a DPS in another video, it was great.) I found things like that both incredibly useful when moving to high keys, and lacking in the content pool. I can't play all the roles and specs to get an understanding of them.
well, dont move mobs out of friendly area effects, that covers like at least half of your options on how to help your dps. everything else is somewhat specc specifc.
@@tupacshakur5868 This! I have been climbing on my Frost Mage recently and when a tank decides to just randomly move the mobs out of my frost orb/blizzard mid pull it just hurts my soul.

Trying to get better with blood dk before 10.2. This helped a ton
I think prot pally is only hard if you're boosting to 70 or haven't played then in a few expansions. It was a little hard returning after a couple expansions but once you understand their spells the rotation is really easy and the utility let's you do anything you want. If you have good gear you can heal the group through bosses when the healer dies, it's hilarious.
Prot pally is literaly mash 3 buttons for agro, use defensive on cd. You got 4 oh shit buttons and you good. Im more confused playing druid.
@@szaka9395 in druid you have a few damage dealers that generate rage. mostly you spend your rage on ironfur. also the oh shit buttons are barkskin - frenzied regen - survival instincts. then you have some cc abilities depending on talents.

Think they mean in the sense of being able to utilize and actually play it properly. Seems like most barely have good uptime of SotR or don’t know when to properly use defensives
What jayce said. There is just a lot to pay attention to compared to other tanks in meaning the utility spells you have to save your teammates. It's easy to play prot and not die but its hard to actually play it properly and utilize its full potential.

I’ve always hated BM monks as a healer too squishy so I made a BM monk for the challenge and to learn it’s mechanics
Great video. But i only have one disagreement on that list and thats blood DK. I think they should of been in the same place as paladin in difficulty. They are fun to play but they can drop dead quickly if not done right and that takes time to learn.
Brewmaster here, so this is my personal opinion with little experience. Blood should be right below brew or in certain dungeons same difficulty as brew. Brew has to know the class 110% and a good knowledge of the dungeon. Dk needs 100% of knowing the the class, but knowing the dungeon is the most important thing. Dk can get one shot if not played correctly. Brews have a little flex with oneshots cause of there stagger.
Same place as monk, and pally on the moderate category, if not on the easy one.
If someone is new to tanking, the 1st thing you should always tell them is don’t start with blood, they are going to be stressing out way to much learning to tank keys and run a dk, and your not going to run into a healer that understand the spec until your doing keys well pass 20

Is it weird that I think Prot Pally is the easiest tank? When he ranked it as harder...I had to scratch my head. You basically just spam your dmg rotation hitting everything off CD and when you need a little extra hit one of many defensive CDs. So easy.
I tried every tank except DH and finally realized I wanted as little rotational stress as possible so I went with Bear
Despite being an easier class, Guardian Druid kicks ass.
I need a Tier List for M+ Tanks in 10.2.
vdh is by far the easiest in 10.2 with all the control it has now
Curious choice to not include "after the wildfire" for druid. Its a hugely impactful passive to have. A good druid tank can actually pick up the slack from a less than prepared healer. All tanks can of course lessen the load on the healer through self and group mitigation or healing tools but a druid can do it both passively (wildfire) and actively (regrowths, frenzied regen) to a very high degree of impact.
I think you did a good job on this video, just that it would be an impactful inclusion if you ever were to touch this video up in the future. Of course that will be a whole different patch so this is probably moot but hopefully it still exists and is as powerful.
Why everyone getting so salty about this 😂 its a subjective video about how difficult a spec might be, based on overarching criteria. It is not what you personally perceive to be the hardest, or better yet even best or worst tank 🧐
You have lost your mind if you think that dk’s and pally tanks are anywhere near the same on pull, pally are far and away the best tanks for gaining threat on pull and dk’s are the worst at it
I really enjoyed the other videos, on healers and dps, but this one about tanks just has too many wrong things. It's pretty obvious that whoever wrote the script for the video doesn't play tanks.
DKs are 100% better at it than Brew masters.
Yeah he has to be referring to low level content with those points of view. In lower keys sure you can take your DK and just run into everything and blood boil for everything to attack you. Do that on a high key and you get global'd instantly. Starting pulls with no runic power is very but-clenching and you gotta be very finicky with your defensives.

I feel so sorry for you guys. You clearly and openly list your criteria and what you're basing your videos on in the opening minute and then everyone goes to the comment section criticizing you about a completely different set of ideas because they cant even watch the video before commenting.
TL;DR a lot of really dumb posters saying "I disagree with your opinion on" or "how can we trust you if you dont mirror my opinon" are filling this comment section.
I find this list a bit wrong as a Mythic+ tank that have all of tanks leveled and done +20 on all of them.
Bear is the easiest tank. You just make big pull every big cd-s and you are invincible.
Blood is the one tank that I dont recommend to learn tanking, since it will give you a lots of bad habits. Its the only tank that is half based on reactional mitigation. It can be hard to learn properly but have lower starting point then other tanks.
Paladin is easy to play, beocus you dont think about your rotation, just press buttons when you can press them, and rotate your cd. And you can have ultimate panic button with taunt-bouble and Lay on Hands. Its the best tank for pugs since you can take 3 ranged dps and singlehandly interrupt all important enemy casts. Forget about inrettupt rotation.
DH can be the best and the worst tank depending on user. Its hard to tank properly and have the highest ceiling of all tanks with its kiting potential. Recently i found it a bit boring to play since you dont need to kite this much, but i hope after rework it will get better.
Warrior is the best physical reduction tank but it lacks in magic and utility. Its fun to play, can be really mobile. Warrior can be a gamble to main, sometimes it will be the tankiest, but when there is a lots of magic dmg it will require a lots of good cc to play with. Its easy when you have physical enemys but fighting lots of mages can be challenging.
Brew have a problem right now. And this problem is to many buttons. It have about 6-8 more skills then other tanks, and most of then dont feel good to use, since your tanking is based mainly on your stagger. Brew historically was one of the easiest tanks, now its just overcomplicated. Its not hard to play, you just have 6 buttons that do basically the same thing that can be replaced by 2 abilities with lower CDs. RIght now ceiling is high for the monks, but floor isn't that high either. You just need to learn proper use of Ring of Pace, and press all of you CDs in rotation.
So go pally? I'm wondering if I even want to tank. I just don't want to wait for queue times lol.
New players, consider pally if youre new to tanking. They have plenty of "oh sh*t" buttons
As an experienced tank player I'm gonna make the controversial statement of saying prot paladin is the easiest tank by far. The utility buttons are the only thing that scares people and those are still very easy to use. You don't even have any real pressure to put out damage in dragonflight simply because what's expected of a prot paladin.
I have experience with pretty much every tank, and have huge experience with blood DK, and there's no way in hell it's only a moderate difficulty tank. Even worse being considered easier than pally or warrior. There's simply no comparison. DK is absolutely a hard tank, up there with Brewmaster monk. And pally goes together with warrior on the moderate category. In fact, it's a known fact that pally is the "noob friendly" tank. There's absolutely nothing hard about them.
Check his metrics again... there is alot required of prot pally... also, all the healers I've seen says it's harder to keep a pally up on high keys than a blood dk. Also, I watched a prot pally melt on a +18 fort in 445 gear because of 1 miss timed cd
@@poshment5435 do you play a prot pally and blood? Cuz I do, and the likes and other comments saying the same thing are proof that I am correct. Blood DK is not just harder than pally, it's MUCH harder. You put a blood DK in the hands of an unexperienced player and he will die in the first big pull, even on lower key levels. And no, his metrics are not correct either. Pally doesn't have more stuff to do. It does pretty much anything other tanks do, which is use it's skills to survive, and on one or two rare occasions throw a lay on hands on someone that is dying in a pull he shouldn't die.
Dk is hard because at higher levels it's super easy to get clapped if you screw up. On pull dk is super vulnerable if you don't have some stuff rolling. At lower levels DK is super easy, but once you get into the higher keystones it can be really punishing if you screw up.
@lerrysorroche5922 I'm only 2600 prot so no expert. I know on fort week in pugs last pull in vp will melt most prot pally. Have yet to see a prot pally do that without blowing every cd and healer blow every cd to keep him up
@@guypoulin6929 which is why all the main blood tanks stopped playing blood in dragonflight (even Naowh quit blood). It's pretty much unplayable on higher keys, especially during fortified and enrage weeks. You simply get 1 shot, there's no surviving 1 shot dmg hit for blood, while pretty much every other tank can survive because they can actually mitigate dmg. Reason why I also benched my blood DK (been my main since Wrath), and started playing exactly prot pally. The difference in survival is simply absurd.

must be because i have been playing and maining tank specs since like 2008 but i would put all tank specs in beginner tier difficulty... none of them are difficult, and not a single tank spec has any issue whatsoever with aggro generation or self sustain... warrior with ignore pain might as well not be taking damage at all, prot paly, blood dk, druid and dh outheal the damage they take while monks also might as well not take the damage since most of it is either healed back up or jump dumped away as if it did not happen with brews and absorbs... again that just might be because im used to playing with tank specs tho.

Yeah so every other guide says that vengeance Demonhunter and Prot pala are the only s rank tanks and the others are only a rank…. I love my DH and my paladin tank, they are so easy to play (I’ll play wow since 1.2 patch back in classic and paladin since wotlk). Sure you have to know the mechanics, but if you read just 1-2 Guides you become a real tanking monster. High damage + high utility + high survivability they are just different to play than other tanks.
I'm just jumping to the game, but i chose Protection Paladin and Im not sure if its the right choice for begginer player. Im getting lost in too many spells compared to other games. I Don ktow when go use what on my teammates, and generaly, i fell that the game is hard, really hard at the beggining, and from the video im scared it will get worse from this point foward.
Focus on yourself first. Rotation and defensive usage is most important. Worry about group utility once you're comfortable
It's worth noting that Rune Tap is a waste of resources a large majority of the time if playing optimally, all +30s are time-able without it and generally the point you require in your talents for it is quite taxing in other ways.

Then saying Sigil of Chains is a budget Death Grip!!!! 😂🤣. Have you EVER actually tanked on a DH?!? They probably have the best crowd control tool kit of any tank class AND Chains is an absolutely phenomenal ability!! Also, how you going to say they struggle with Aggro?!? It’s insanely easy to get aggro as a DH Tank!! I was watching this just to see what people think and man, I found a good laugh!!

Youve got it wrong about Veng, they have way more than you descirbe, especially in 10.2 ( I know you arent accounting for that since this video is older) but i played it to KSH in 10.1 and i think ur leaving out a ton. Sigil of chains is not a budget grip, its a better abomination grip without the damage. You can aoe with sigil, cleave, fel devastation, spirit bomb, elysian decree, immolation aura, and your jump has an aoe. and you dont need to pre-plansoul fragments as they have a distance limit, instead you lead with elysian or sigil of flame then fracture to build up your fragments then pop spirit bomb and fel dev and ur unstoppable.

This aint right, brew is def hardest, guardian def easiest. Prot pally and war can be easy/moderate depending on the content. But theres no world where blood dk is moderate. Its right behind brm because of its entirely unique style. If you start as a bdk, youll fail as a tank, that alone makes it advanced You're basing this list on rotation and not spec strs and weaknesses.
The criteria are listed directly at the start. They're based around the skill floor required to play effectively(not optimally,) mob control, rotation, passive durability and aggro generation.
Also, blood death knight is and has been for a long time one of the easier tanks to get started on the journey into M+ with because of the amount of agency you have over your own health. A blood death knight can be confident in their own abilities and not feel dependent on their healer or group support. The class exists to absorb damage and heal it back, and due to that 90% of the way up BDK is a great tank, once you cross that last threshold into the very highest keys it rapidly becomes one of the worst because of the lack of mitigation, it cant survive the huge damage spikes to heal itself up. But that last 10% is not what's being assessed here. There are plenty of MDI players that do that kind of content (shoutout to Dorki, great tank and youtuber.)

I feel like this is for people pushing +30s. I will never go over +20, as there is no in game value to it.
Poor warriors
Most of this was accurate for new players but I would never put demon hunter in anything but the advanced difficulty section arguably above the monk Their non-cd damage mitigation comes from demon spikes, calcified spikes and painbringer, two of which require preplanning to use effectively(ignoring fiery brand since it is effectively a cd without the 4 piece but that is also something to work in once you have it).
It is noticeably more complicated to get basic mitigation up than just pressing ironfur and thrash for druid, using marrowrend/death strike for a dh or shield block/ignore pain for a warrior,. They have to optimize their mitigation because they have access to the fewest amount of defensive cooldowns, just meta, fiery brand, and fel devastation, and have no good way to pop yourselves back up to full hp on a whim like pally, dk, and monk since even their strongest heal, soul bomb, only functions well if there are several soul fragments out. So if their mitigation isn't maintained, they have very few ways to save fix the mistakes besides hoping the healer tops them off.
All of these take time and requires some degree of management or preplanning, making demon hunters feel unwieldy for those not accustomed to tanking. It takes a lot of focus away from doing the basic things that tanks need to do such as managing threat, positioning mobs, utility...etc and puts it towards mitigation that other classes can do with a lot less thinking and button presses.
It is not bad at all once you get the hang of it, and I think it is one of the more fun and rewarding tank specs, but I would always suggest that a new tank stay away from it since it is so involved and finding out why you died can be very confusing for a while since it isn't as simple as "Oh I should have pressed spell reflect or ardent defender" but instead relies on tracking several buffs.
And I'm not talking out of my ass here, I've been a tank main for years and gotten aotc/ksm on all of them and ksh on most. Hell this very season, I got bored and challenged myself to level up most of the tans from fresh and get ksm on each spec, which I did quite easily. I've also taught a bunch of beginner tanks, and before I had a good feel for how it felt to new players, I used to put dh on the low end since it felt easy to me but it is a different beast to new tanks according to feedback and observations.
There's so much stuff here that's wrong that it really calls into question all the other advice that's been given in the other videos in this series. If the tanks are ranked this wrongly, then how inaccurate are the rankings given for the dps in the dps series?

Talking about how DH doesn’t have the best mob control….as if double aoe silence isn’t busted lol, and darkness is the best defensive in the game, it’s gross that vengeance gets that too. Also idk what prot Paladin they’re playing, but I unless I purposely turn my back to all the mobs I’ve never felt more squishy, and last brewmaster is just button bloat, but actually keeping yourself alive is stupid easy just as long as you hit 2 buttons because they don’t get chunked like other tanks.

I have to say, I really disagree with your review of Prot Paladin and have to doubt the accuracy of your other analyses. You mention not having holy power at the start of a pull and say Sentinel can be used to pull. Sentinel is a self buff with no aggro generation at all; Blessed Hammer generates one HP per use and is easy to keep going so there's a constant stream of HP. You call Guardian a cheat death; it isn't - it can be talented into triggering automatically but it's still a damage reduction, not a cheat death. Given these inaccuracies, how can I trust your work on the other tanks?
He's wrong about one thing, and it's that it's hard. There's nothing hard about it. Should be in easy category with bear.
And it's pretty obvious he mixed the name of the skills. It's not guardian that gives cheat death, but they do have cheat death.
@@lerrysorroche5922 What's the name of the protpal cheat death? Because I've got the tree open right now and don't see it. Gift of Golden Valkyr will auto-trigger Guardian of Ancient Kings, but Guardian isn't a cheat death - you can be killed right through it.

At lower levels it’s really easy but if a blood dk gets caught without a death strike available and not using defensives they’ll be looking at the floor pretty quickly

Brewmaster is easy. So is Vengeance DH. Bear Druid is hard. Blood DK is dumb. haven't tried Prot Warrior or Pally, so couldn't make a judgement.

Not sure why Brew is classified hard. High dodge and stagger flattens out every damage spike and then you can halve the stagger + pop some selfheal/absorb. Way more than enough to let the healer catch up. When played correctly, most packs and bosses don't even require healers in 15-16 or lower instances. If you struggle to learn the spec, just solo some M0 instances to learn how to stay alive. Sure as hell 25+ is a different level of challenge, but most players don't run such high keys and it's a big challenge for all specs and roles.
Healing DK tanks is a nightmare, they fluctuate between almost dead and not a single scratch constantly. I never know when they need my heals and when they gonna heal back to full without help. All other tanks are OK to heal.
Runic power is what you have to watch on DK's. If the Runic power is down and they have a bunch of mobs still attacking them be ready to spam heals. If they have runic power going into a pull you don't even need to touch them.
Brew right now ist overcomplicated it have much more buttons to click then other tanks, that do similar things. Monks in general need some ability pruning.
Brew historically was one of the easiest tank to play since stagger is op mechanically. In DF it still isn't hard but overwhelming for new players, and I dont think this video was made by someone who have lots of experience in tanking :P
