  • Fixing a damaged engine cylinder with honing: Is it an option? - In this video, we explore the possibility of repairing our damaged engine cylinder using honing. Honing is a process of smoothing the surface of the cylinder to improve its performance and efficiency. However, if the scores or scratches on the cylinder are too deep, honing may not be successful. We will share our experience and knowledge on the limitations of honing a damaged engine cylinder and when it's best to seek professional repair. This video will provide valuable information for car enthusiasts and DIY mechanics who want to know more about the potential of honing to fix engine cylinder damage.

That cardboard on top of the ring trick is pure money. Thanks for that!

If you don’t mind me asking, what would a sleeve work costed for that one cylinder? Just acquired a 6.2 Gen IV LS with a burn piston. Gouged #7 cylinder pretty bad. Thinking sleeve job will be the cheapest route. All the other cylinders mic out and look good.

Hi, my best guesstimate is about the same cost to bore all 8 out but without the mandatory hot tank and frost plugs and camshaft bushings it would be significantly less than the $350.00 or so we shelled out for the above. I would think $200ish plus the cost of one new piston in standard bore, if same manufacturer and style should not throw your balance off, way cheaper than the full on overhaul we did.

Thank you. Around about what I was estimating. Still planning pretty much a full rebuild, just without the cost of 7 other pistons.

Too bad, big bucks for machining, new pistons, rings, all the bearings, lifters, etc. Probably could have honed it, re ringed it, slapped it back together and run it. She would have had one weaker cylinder but still would have run decent, but I guess it depends on what you want and how deep your pockets are.

That cylinder filled up the oil pan with antifreeze from the vented cylinder head via the three rivers carved top to bottom on that one cylinder, that would have been a very weak cylinder and would have put blue smoke out the driver side tailpipe, decently ruined but far from decent. And yeah it sucks, big bucks for my son😄. If it was my money, would have sleeved or bored the one cylinder and called it good.

@@millionmilegarage9587 How does scoring on the cylinder wall result in antifreeze in the oil pan?
