One string gourd fiddles are present all over West Africa. All are played by men except for the Tuareg Amzad which is played by women. One string fiddles with other type of bodies are present in East Africa. North of the Sahel region most fiddles have two strings like in Egypt or Marocco, called Rebabs. This is "Dagbani" a northern Ghanaian language. The Gonje or Goje is a traditional instrument for a number of african tribes I believe, different variations of the instrument any way.
I don't know what he's saying but i like how it sounds, i assume its an afro asiatic language? the atmosphere is very homely and warm wich i appreciate, anyways very nice song and an even nicer smile!
I have heard this same tune in another video on youtube. in the other vid I was told it was being sang/played at a funeral. What is the theme of the song?

I'll be traveling to Ghana in Dec. Is there a way to contact this amazing gonje player? Will love to do a project with him.
Very impressive, Yoruba people have the same traditional violin and the name is similar too GOJE . I bet this is Hausa

Interesting. I can’t completely understand this beautiful tune, but he’s definitely using some Hausa words in it.
