Appreciate the work of Anup Surendranath. One problem is that the people start confusing when hear the word socio-economic. That need to be clarified. Yes it is a evolutionary process, but why it is taking so much time when there is this much fact available against giving death punishment.
It's a paradox. For capital punishement to work as a deterrent there would need to be people committing crimes which result in the death penalty. Therefore, if it was deterring people then there would be no crime and then the death penalty wouldn't be being enforced = it wouldn't be deterring anyone. Just an interesting thought
When it comes to inhuman and contemptuous crimes like Nirbhaya case I believe nobody who is human would demand anything less than a "hanging till death" to the monsters. Unless and until a proper substitute is found out for "death penalty" it wouldn't be fair enough to profess on it's withdrawal.
