I was so thrilled on the day I first saw one Spitfire flying (1975 ?). On that day at Duxford, seeing so many flying together, all my dreams were exceeded. Watching this has brought back such a happy memory. Thank you.
Wonderful to see so many airworthy Spits in one place. Can you imagine how many man-hours of restoration work they all represent? Stunning! Hats off to their restorers!
Even more now - Wikipedia lists 54 of which 30 are in the UK, but the UK civil register lists 32 and the BBMF has another 6 on the military register, so it could be as many as 62?
Apparently Al Deeres spitfire is under restoration, the one that had its tail chopped off by x4650. Don't how much can be used, maybes another data plate restoration
My heart was racing while watching this - seeing them in the Vic formation! As you might guess from my name, I've been obsessed with this beautiful aircraft for so many years, since I saw my first at about four years old. 50 years later I'm still obsessed and living about two miles away from the Castle Bromwich Factory where so many were built, and Alex Henshaw, my hero, was chief test pilot. Truly wonderful video, many, many thanks! :)
Thankyou. 19 Spitfires together is truly an awesome sight and sound. I would love to be able to do a short film covering every surviving Spitfire. Thankfully with the rebuild teams hard at work it would probably be fairly difficult to complete - Sigh for a Merlin!
When I was 16 I joined the ATc I would make model planes my favourite was the spitfire beautiful plane that RJ Micthall made that merlin engine has a brilliant sound even to this day god bless the airmen that flew this wonderful plane!!!
Someday I want to own a Spitfire! How wonderful it must have been for folks to see these fine, fine war planes flying. Sound of a Spitfire a beautiful sound in the world. When one thinks that the pilots who flew the Spitfires in WW2 were eighteen, nineteen, in their early 20's. And someday I sure hope that before I pass from this life (I am 70, gaaa!) that I will be able to visit GB and see the Spitfires fly!
I hope that you get your wish to own a Spitfire and to visit GB to see many. If you can't get to GB there are Spitfires flying in many other countries including USA, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Turkey, Italy, France, Spain, Holland, Norway, Belgium, Germany and many others. You are never to old.🙃👍
You're so right - thank you. Glad you enjoyed. There will be another film (sadly with fewer Spitfires), but in better conditions, from day 2 of the show in due course.
Love these Warbirds. Just finished reading THE SPLENDID AND THE VILE. Britain fighting alone, fighting for her life. Stupid Goring thought the RAF was in shambles. Ha! Someday, someday I want to live in Britain and see these fine fighter planes myself. Folks, I'm an American and my dad fought in WWII. Worshiped Churchill. He said Britain stood alone, she stood alone. And I have lost count how many books I have on The Battle of Britain. Yep, I read them all.
At around 0:37, we have a glimpse of a couple of Hurricanes. Let's not overlook the debt we owe to that aircraft and its pilots for their contribution during the Battle of Britain. The Spitfire might be graceful and pretty, but the Hurricane was the real workhorse.
I agree. Both played their part in equal measure. The Hurricanes knocked down the German bombers while the Spitfires kept the German fighters at bay. I heard a story related at the show where a group of Hurricane and Spitfire veterans had a very sociable drink fuelled debate in a bar one night, whereby the Hurricane pilots did eventually agree that had it not been for the Spitfire we would probably have lost the Battle of Britain, primarily because the Hurricane would not by itself have been able to contend with the Bf109, although they would all probably now deny it? Here are the Hurricanes flying at the same show, with a Blenheim - th-cam.com/video/4Ni3PdYHRa4/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for the link to the Hurricanes and the Blenheim. Any debate about the relative effectiveness and worth of the Hurricane and Spitfire, would, I hope, always be friendly and it could never reach a definitive conclusion. The Battle of Britain was won, but I won't be so presumptuous as to repeat Churchill's words here.
Spectacular is right, a wonderful sight and sound, but what happened with the weather ? It looked really wet. Very many thanks for posting this, this is as good as it gets ! Chris B.
Hey Britain, this Yank wants to say THANK YOU. THANK YOU for taking on the Nazi. What beauties they are. As I quote from Nolan's Dunkirk; "Rolls Royce Merlin engine. The most beautiful sound in the world."
Thankyou. I did also go on the Sunday. Thankfully the rain cleared and the sun appeared for the flying. I'll be posting all of the action from both days gradually in due course. There were fewer Spitfires flying on Sunday though!

Is Spitfire MH 434 not owned by the Old Flying Machine Company anymore? i notice in your list she's listed under Merlin Aviation LTD, and also, the Grace Spitfire, what about her?, it seems us here in New Zealand are a tad behind, lol.Fantastic video, thankyou for posting.
Thankyou, it's my pleasure. You are by no means a 'tad behind'. MH434 is listed on G-INFO (the CAA online register) as owned by Merlin Aviation Ltd, but it is still indeed operated by the Old Flying Machine Company - maybe a trading name and/or joint ownership or another link between the two? www.old-flying-machine-company.co.uk The Grace Spitfire is still in the hands of Caroline and Richard Grace via their company Air Leasing Ltd - ultimatewarbirdflights.com/flights/supermarine-spitfire-t-ix-ml407/
Thankyou for your reply High Flight, much appreciated, i've mostly followed MH 434 through publications such as Fly Past and Aeroplane as well as ML 407, thanks again for your response.
For the love of Bugs Bunny! please don't make two seaters any longer, please, please, please! Would you like to have a three boobed girl? ........well, don't do it anymore.
I remember watching this at Duxford in 2018
Absolutely amazing..... beautiful planes and a fantastic display 😍🥰👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
The sound of a Merlin engine gives me goosebumps. Absolutely beautiful!
5:45 What a bloody glorious sight!

Thankyou. It's good to have such memories and Duxford continues to produce many more.😊

I think I just went back in time about 75 years and I love it!!!
Beautiful, just beautiful!
There are aprox 54 spitfires airworthy in the world. I think quite a few more will be restored over the years aswell these are legendary beauties!

High Flight I believe that all over the world more and more Spitfires are being rebuilt back to airworthiness
That's how you display Warbirds! Beautiful job U.K.!
Heavenly sound of those airborne 18!

Top video this one indeed! So many Spitfires now they even have enough for N3200 to fly that superb solo. LIKE
Magnificent meeting of loving Spitfires ... thanks so much to dear Steve.
I hope R J Mitchel is somewhere watching these creations of his

Viele Spitfires voraus!! Just imagining being a young German Luftwaffe officer and seeing 19 Spitfires headed my way. :-D Good Show!!
Oh Let those Merlins Roar!
My dad flew Spits. He was in the Norwegian Air Force. Stationed at Wheatfield. 332 Squardon under British Command.
Wow!
beautiful
Man, this does get you pumped up-WOW! An outstanding display of the Spitfire. Great video- and the Merlins are sounding magnificent.
You're so right - thank you. Glad you enjoyed. There will be another film (sadly with fewer Spitfires), but in better conditions, from day 2 of the show in due course.
High Flight Thanks a lot ! Expect more videos of yours.
These are real beauties. Wish I could own and fly a Spitfire!
Me too! 😍

Just awesome.

Graham - I agree totally.
My next door neighbour now knows what a merlin and a Griffin sounds like!.😊
Thanks for using my film to 'tickle' his/her ears!
I was lucky to watch it on real
James Franklin same, and was worth the air fare from Oz!
Spectacular is right, a wonderful sight and sound, but what happened with the weather ? It looked really wet. Very many thanks for posting this, this is as good as it gets ! Chris B.
Chris, thanks. Not great weather, but Sunday was better for the flying.

Fantastic video!! Keep up the great work. Looking forward to seeing more from ya. 👍👍👍
Thanks Ryan. I'll be posting most of the action from both days of this show.
Great stuff as usual Stephen!
Pity about the weather on the Saturday though.
Btw, did you go on the Sunday?
Thankyou. I did also go on the Sunday. Thankfully the rain cleared and the sun appeared for the flying. I'll be posting all of the action from both days gradually in due course. There were fewer Spitfires flying on Sunday though!
its a shame that there isnt a pink recon one
PL965 (No 12 listed) was in a Pink colour scheme in 2000.
@@HighFlight cool i wish they hadn't repainted it
@@prod.mp3861 With the number of Spitfire restorations and repaints, I think that there's bound to be another one in Pink one day?
Thank you for a great video. I was at the 2017 show but missed this one.
That's a pleasure, especially for those who cannot get to these shows!
Beautiful video 😍😍😍
Thankyou.
how can i distinguish the type of those spitfires? And why some planes have one intaker, but anothers have two?

There is one dislike why?
Maybe because Nazis hate Spitfires?
Superb video thanks for sharing
Ian - Thankyou. It was a joy to see and hear. I'll post Sundays version (with fewer Spitfires but better weather) in due course.

Are these all based in UK?
All except for one are currently UK based. Number 19 as listed in the description (D-FEUR) is based in Germany.
@@HighFlight still stunning aircraft, hope they are well matained the next 70 years
They are certain to be looked after, especially as each is probably worth between 1 and 3 million pounds!
just be care of my family history about the spitfire its not a joke,!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Katakoyzenos,MXII Christophoros,D eh?
The Hispano's!
