    Blue belt here. All these sweeps and positions we have done numerous times and all work great. But not being able to think and remember quick enough to put them into a seemless game makes this sport so addictive. One day, one day.
    Thank you!

      100%. That’s what defines blue belt. I’m in the same boat. Trying to take all the pieces and put them together to make a plan.

      Tou guys Just need to Focus on 2 ir 3 positions, train everyday until You get real good, then you choose another one that can link to thenone tou trained before...

      @@VitorHugo-oh4nqA solid month into playing nothing but overhook from guard. Really studying the positions. Up at 2 am watching videos. Meditation and visualization. Positional roll frequently with solid training partners. It has made Jiu-Jitsu "click" for me. Once I have the position, I have answers and solutions to most of the things I encounter from here. It's like a whole tool kit opens up and you apply the right technique.

    Thanks Rick, I think teaching strategies and sequences is more effective than isolated techniques. As an older athlete (56 yr old blue belt), I’m no longer strong enough to force an outcome. Your videos have been really helpful to me in changing my game.

    Fantastic vid! Really for all Half guarders, at 5:00 minutes you blew my mind with "in body is the essence of BJJ, wich is going around the obstacle", damn! When i learnt this concept i applied the back take as one of the priorities in my half guard game and had second sweeps. I really liked the way you go for the back keeping the same bottom feet hook pinched. I have seen people doing that with the coyote changing the feet but the way you show i feel that i can be faster and get my opponents leg really that locked. I have discovered your channel these days your didatics is really diferentiated and very well done. Keep up the good work!

    Hey Rick, another awesome video. Good for everyone, but great for "old man" jiu jitsu. Not enough people chain techniques in my opinion. I really like the "do this, if he does that" and so on approach.... 2-3 options from each of the most common positions is great for recreational jiu-jitsu folks like me. Thanks again.

    I really like that sweep that you use when Jordan whizzers, but another I like better is more a Leite move of continuing to move into coyote and then just escaping the whizzer and continuing to move to back. If that doesn't work then diving for the original sweep or deep half seems to work nice. Most of the time though if you've reaped their near leg enough you'll get back.
    This is super cool though. I'm a half guard player and love your channel :)

    Thanks for this professional video. Very clear and engaging. How is your approach different than simply “techniques from half guard” ? Is it the same? I may be missing some nuances. When you mentioned building an order of operations, I was intrigued. I’m still at the place where I am trying to flow chart my game (got the idea from you) and drill the transitions.

    • @TheArtofSkill
      @TheArtofSkill  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Knowing a bunch a techniques from a position is useful, but not as useful as knowing how your opponents behave from a position, and then making sure you have techniques that take that data into account. When I suggest building a strategic framework, what I'm suggesting is that you first understand the behavior of your opponents, then build a game plan that gives you solutions for each problem.

    Another great vid, professor. It's obvious you put a lot of thought into prep and production. Quick question -- Do you prefer the low knee shield to high? I suck at half guard, but have always played it with a high knee shield because I feel like it's a better frame for absorbing top pressure, but I get no pinch. Do you prefer a low approach because it allows for a better pinch? Thanks again!

    • @BJJourney
      @BJJourney ปีที่แล้ว

      for me it works for better pinch in high knee shield half if u keep an active hook of ur bottom foot leg. If the foot is dead, its loose, and will be easier for them to pass.
