    Hoping and looking forward to when Omega makes this Chronograph in the previous 41.5 dimension. Along with these new pivoting end links, would LOVE to see Omega pull off a thickness of under 15mm in a new smaller version (frankly, under 14mm and it would sell very strong). Not certain if they shot themselves in the foot with this new movement and we are all stuck with the daunting task of wearing this as a daily with the over 17mm thickness(not for me). I believe the previous 41.5 Chrono was 16.8mm thick. Again, that is simply too thick for 98% of us. Oh well, we'll have to wait and see. There's always the 3 hander with a much more reasonable size/proportion. With a new 41.5 version, I would like to see this silver dial color mated with a black ceramic bezel and black sunken chrono dials.

  • @berntanders
    @berntanders 4 ปีที่แล้ว +81

    First description says everything. It’s too big. It’s 17mm thick? It looks brilliant, but I could never wear it. Omega PO39 is one of the few they have, but I believe that too is thicker than a Big Mac.

    • @af7358
      @af7358 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you want a thin Omega chrono you get a Speedy. The PO39(.5) is chunky but not absurdly so - still a full centimetre thinner than a Sea Dweller, for example.

      Well, it's first and foremost a diver, so that's fine in my opinion. But it is true, the 9900 is not a slim movement itself, at 7.6mm, so there are no thin watches with this movement.

    • @nilsklein6098

      This is a main reason why a Rolex is more beautiful. The Omega is a clunker.

    • @Jay-xr3sb
      @Jay-xr3sb 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@nilsklein6098 the omega divers have gotten too big. Rolex has never changed which is good and bad, but the rolex game and pricing shows its aiming for a Hermes style luxury item flex (veblen good), not focusing in watch making.
      Besides, the square lugs have put me off the sub for 10 years, just tried on the new 41mm and it seems so plain and did nothing for me.
      This has introduced me to Lange, leaps ahead. I will a
      wait for the right GS and GO as well.

      I've seen this exact same model in real life (someone I know owns one) and I think it's part of the zoomed in view. In real life it seems to have a better balance of fine and thick details and lines so that it doesn't look too busy when looking at it from any 'realistic' distance. Also the interesting case shape sells the whole thing.

    I worked with a 25 year old guy whose parents had bought him a nice Seiko solar chronograph for his 21st. When I asked him if he ever used the chronograph he gave me a blank look. I had to show him that it existed, and how to use it.
    So your point about the general public only buying chronographs because of the look of the dial is fairly spot on. Many don't care about the functionality and engineering, and some don't even know that you can have a stopwatch that's not digital.

    • @nicerides9224
      @nicerides9224 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know what the chronograph is but I never used mine on watches that had it either. Same with the dive bezels on dive watches. Like pretty much everyone I bought it because it looks good. I got to thinking if I don't use the feature on a watch then I don't want it on the watch. I still like a watch to be waterproof to at least 100m but I don't need a dive bezel or a chronograph I'll never use. Just the standard 3 hands and maybe a date.

      @@Kr0nicridah Sure. Start at the 15 second mark of the video and look at the uneven paint application on the 60 numeral of the subdial, there’s even what seems to be paint specks on the register itself. Then keep looking as the video moves on to the hand on the minute subdial, see the pitting and uneven paint? True, these are small flaws, but a Daytona is expensive at retail, and eye-wateringly expensive if you pay the massive premium over retail for a second hand piece, so it wouldn’t be unreasonable to expect a better level of finishing for your money. In fairness, Rolex aren’t the only offenders.

    As an omega owner , and not at all a rolex fanboy, I have to say Yes, this Rolex IS BETTER than the omega.
    A watchmaker’s prowess lies in the ability to engineer all the components in as compact a package as possible.
    I’m not impressed with all of omega’s blows and whistles if it is fitted in hockey puck on the wrist. Omega loses big time here on that premise alone.
    Omega needs to get back to the drawing board and start engineering and designing compact movements in compact wearable cases, and they have the ability to do so.

    I bought this Omega and I freaking love this thing. Yes, its big, but I have a 7.5" wrist, so it fits well. It also wears smaller than you might think. I don't have a Rolex, but the GMT Master II that I like just changed the rotor to ceramic bearings and it sounds like a cheap Myota movement..really disappointing.
    I'd also rather have a Zenith El Primero over an El Primero Daytona...because Zenith made the movement..and happened to save Rolex by doing so!
    Now...the Rolex Platinum Daytona with the blue dial and brown bezel (don'tneed the diamond hour markers)....ok, that is a proper grail watch for me that I will have one day.

    I always thought Omega was for people who wanted to own a nice watch. Rolex was for people that want others to know they have a nice watch. My introduction to luxury watches was from one of my first bosses, who when asked, showed me his custom 14k Deville, which he had received from retiring from a corporate restaurant chain. It pressed the Omega brand into my brain, for better or worse.

The regular 300M is very comfortable but this was just too thick and top heavy. I've got a broad wrist and can wear 45mm Radiomirs fine, but this one felt just too thick and top heavy so I sold it and now I'm getting a Streamliner Chronograph. Still, the finishing was perfect and it's pretty much the only new watch I never found a single defect with, plus the accuracy was better than one second a day. But anyone considering this really needs to try one on first.

Why omega produce this watch even they have speed master. I think it creates confusion for us. What is the real purpose of this watch. If you think that this is full allround watch, i kindly remind you that you had forgotten to add GMT function. Hahaha...
    Another example is current Railmaster. Aquaterra has all specifications of Railmaster. If I buy a Railmaster, what do I want to say to myself? What should be the main reason to buy a Railmaster ? Beside this Omega always compares itself with Rolex. As you mentioned that Rolex is benchmark. But why? Almost every watch of Omega have 15000 gauss magnetic resistance, how Rolex milgauss could be a benchmark ? Therefore marketing strategies and the target customer profile is pretty important.
    Kind Regards

They talk about having in house movements but their movements are still manufactured by the same company that always supplied their movements i.e. Egler all Rolex did was buy the company rather than just putting the Rolex name on the Egler company building in their brochures and it's not the case that I am down on Rolex I own a few but I refuse to buy now for the simple reason that they are price gouging and the false scarcity that they use now as a marketing ploy I still remember the days that I could negotiate a good discount for a new Rolex and I even remember in the 1970's when I was trying to buy a gold datejust for my father and when I was hesitating the AD offered to sweeten the deal by throwing in a Daytona for free but that was in the days that nobody was buying, everyone that wanted a chronograph wanted an Omega. Back to the point their watches are no better built, except for the technology, than they always were. They are still just a good tool watch maker and nothing else.

    Speedy 321 vs Daytona. That is a fair comparison.

    I have 2 gold seamasters. An automatic cosmic 2000 date and a torneau quarts on a weird vintage gold bracelet. It's called something like reptile jubilee. Both all gold. I wish the automatic had an exhibition back. What's the history of seamaster?
