Dude we need a 'weekend rider' series! I want to see your daily rider style reviews applied to the weekend warriors! Get some of these bikes out on the fun roads and do a separate weekend warrior ranking. So many owners like me don't or can't commute on a motorcycle and only ride for fun and want to know which bikes are the best, fun/comfort/handling/performance bikes!

To anyone researching this bike. Considering getting a 'Gabro map' via 'Up map T800' and instantly solve any ECU related issues with this bike. (Smoother throttle, limiters removed in lower gears, a bit more hp/tq, turn signals in the headlight housing instead of the actual signals, ability to flash it back to stock for warranty work, if any. etc etc) I'm told it's the best money you'll spend on the bike...along with an exhaust.

i rode the 2012 tuono for 2.5 years as daily commute, so i think my views are very valid. tuono such is such a beast, best stock sounding bike in the market, bar none, confidence inspiring in every type of situation. but it is a fucking hot bike and not great for city traffic, also drinks petrol like us drinking coffee, overall a great experience but not the best commuter

Just like the XJ6, the Tuono seems like a GREAT bike to ride whenever, wherever, and however you want - obviously with much more power and technology than my old Yamaha. Having had an old 2012 model, subsequent models up to 2021 model were following the same logic of hypernaked. The new one kind of reminds me of the blend between Tuono and Caponord. Since they do not produce the latter, they made a hybrid model Tuono GT with the windscreen and saddlebags. Maybe just call it Tuononord. :)

Resume cruise is in the book, I think. It's been awhile, but I think it was 'hold up for 2 seconds' on my 2017. Also, dollars to donuts says that the $700 Race ECU removes low gear limiters, if there are any, which I don't think there are. Base model has a 40 tooth rear sprocket compared to the Factory's 42 tooth. All 16-20 (US) Tuonos had a 42 tooth rear. So that's a bit less thrust, too, but easily fixable.

Recently test rode the standard model and really enjoyed it. Leg area was a little more compact than I thought it would be but it wasn't a deal breaker. I didn't like the neutered gearing/power in the early gears but once you open it up past 5k rpm, it's so much fun. I'd swap for the shorter risers and windscreen from the factory but this bike is definitely on my short list.

The saddle bag on the left side is lower in order to maintain better balance when loaded with cargo; this is in relation to the bikes center of gravity. And as someone else mentioned, the exhaust on the right side also levels out the weight distribution as well. Now I could be wrong, who knows what the Italians are cooking up

An answer to your question, I'm going to assume Aprilia did that asymmetric saddlebag design so that someone could strap on items on top of the large saddlebag, up to and including camping gear.
But this is an example of where form fits function does not equal beauty.
They should provide an option for a level and symmetrical second small bag on the left side.

Always enjoy your reviews Zach, since I have had a number of Tuono's over the years I have to admit I am bias. It's all about what the riding experience is like for the individual. The MT-07 I tested was fun tons of wheelies but I felt the suspension on the Tuono is superior. Front wheel is so well planted on Tuono and the quick shifter felt like a better mechanism. Again it's all subjective.
    Keep the reviews coming.
Would be interested to see a review on the Fanatic Caballero 550 one day

2 minutes and 45 seconds in, you answered your own question. I'd wager the reason they offset the bags was due to the step over angle. I know I've run into it myself, hitting your bags with your leg as you throw your leg over. It's probably a fix to an issue no one asked for, but at least it's an effort.

You have the perfect job to ride an Aprilia, you can enjoy the good parts of riding one then give it back before it starts to go wrong!😂

I own 2021 factory and i can't find any limitations on 1 an 2nd with power/torque delivery. Asked my aprilia diler and they haven't heard about this either.

Factory version of bikes are for those riders that can flirt with the maximum limitations of the bike. That means a professional that needs any extra edge to win a race. 99% of most riders cannot use what the stock bike offers let alone a factory version. It’s the rider that makes the bike. A better bike helps the better rider, not make a better rider.

Great job Zack - keep it up. I was waiting for this one like many others. I agree with the assessment vs Factory - the only downside is the paint job - although the white is not too bad

Right saddle bag is smaller and mounted high up so to make space for the upswept exhaust pipe!

Last time I owned a Tuono Factory I got he biggest speeding ticket, 1 mph away from getting arrested and put in jail with the booty warrior. I had to hire a Better call Saul lawyer and he amazingly got the ticket reduced to a faulty tail light. 😁 So I switched from a fast liter bike to torque and wheelies on a 450 supermoto and couldn't be happier.

I suspect the weird saddle bag mounting helps with theoretical weight balance. A smaller bag (less weight), longer (moment) arm versus bigger bag, shorter arm?

I’ve started on a 2021 MT07, and did not see it coming that the Tuono got put under it. But! I’d probably swing a leg over my MT more often - reserving the Tuono for more spirited rides on beautiful days where I can afford to break all the right speed limits lol.
I wanna ride one so bad!

@RevZilla Zack, you should start doing a dorky side shot of you sitting on the bike. It would be nice to get a better idea of legroom while in riding position

I'm hoping to see a DR for the Harley PanAm soon. Since upright sport and ADV touring bikes rank so highly in these tests, I'm curious Zack's take on the PanAm versus the GS, Multistrada, and others.

And here I used to think the exhaust cutout on the inside of my 2016 1200 Multistrada S were bad... these saddlebags are a new level of trainwreck.

Hello, Do you have any plans to commute one Triumph Speed Triple-RR. I loved your daily ride on the 2016 Speed Triple but the rain kinda dampened the ride. I think it's time for a redo, not to mention it has a new chassis, power plant, and displacement. So what do ya say are you up to the re-review?
