This has been driving me crazy for years. Our flag continuously would fly up and get caught on our gutter. I did EXACTLY what you showed. I cannot thank you enough for this video. I bought the 2 sets of magnets, the red electrical tape and followed your instructions including the positioning on the stripes. This works like a charm ! ! ! If I was able to upload a pic, I would gladly do so. You are correct... the positioning of the 'flagnets' does give it a natural flow. From the Windy City of Chicago . . .
    THANK YOU ~ THANK YOU ~ THANK YOU ! ! ! 😃 👍
    Definitely a 10 start solution. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

First of all: Thanks for sharing what worked to 'color' the magnets and what *didn't* work. I don't have the red tape, and certainly would have defaulted to the paint that I have....
Second: Thanks for discussing the placement of the magnets. Again, what worked and what didn't. This is very helpful.

Genius! Magnets are SO useful! I once fixed my car's breaking light using 6 stacked magnets! Anyways, thank you, I just used your idea with my own flag with just using two pair of magnets, they were sufficiently heavy for the flag and so there is no fear of two sets of magnets sticking to one another

As Gomer Pyle would say, "Thank ya, thank ya, thank ya!" I just watched this video yesterday after searching for a way to stop the frustrating wrapping of the flag around the pole. I thought your ideas were the best, so I went to Home Depot and bought the items you mentioned. I came home yesterday afternoon and did exactly as you instructed. And guess what? I got up this morning to discover that my flag is NOT WRAPPED! So, instead of unwrapping my flag several times a day, I can rest assured that it will be properly displayed without any hint that "flagnets" are attached!

I use to use magnets but the wind kept knocking it off when it hit the top of the fence. Makes noise when it hits too. So I just got a longer pole with rotating rings and it no longer furls over the fence and gets stuck. Rotates nicely and never tangles. If it does tangle the next blast of wind fixes it.

Maybe use anti furl mounting rings instead? Magnets are an alternative however I think mounting rings might serve as a more correct and permanent solution for most. Not to mention if you have anything that will be attracted to the magnets near by in heavy wind the flag will blow and get stuck to things such as a gutter for example. Just my 2 cents. Hope I might have helped give another solution to anyone looking for one.

Hi Keith, I'm trying to solve the same problem and found your video. Is there a reason you used magnets? Would any other metallic item work the same? I'm trying to understand if the magnetic property works here, or just that the magnets were the right size and provided enough weight to keep the flag from furling. Thanks.

Ross Johnston sorry that happened to you. I believe there’s certain considerations that must be evaluated before doing this. The vicinity of your car during high winds in relation to the flag, the strength of the magnets vs wind strength, etc.. it’s definitely something each person will need to test based on their location. Again, sorry the video wasn’t more helpful and sorry you had a negative experience.

Hi Keith.. it is a great idea and it does work, but needed to be taken further as the magnets will fly off.. My partner and I have fully developed the idea and patented it as Flagnets. The weird part.? I just now came across your video and by coincidence came up with the same name.. Its a "no brainer" as a name I guess, the name fits. We made critical upgrades to the system. We put the grade 8 magnets in a triangular plastic clip design that houses the magnets. The can't slip apart. The system is "clipable" and can be easily applied and removed. Its also available in multi-colors to discreetly match any flag. No painting. We also made the interior textured to give added grip and we nailed down the proper weight so the flag flies freely, but weighs it even in high winds. It looks and works terrific. I guess as they say If its a good idea somebody somewhere has tried it. It looks like a couple of us went down the same road to fix our flag furling issues.. PEACE

..until a real high winds blows in, and those magnets turn into flying shrapnel! ..and God forbid if anyone is walking by the flag when that really high wind blows in!
People don't understand (until it's too late), the velocity of these weights flying through the air, and the damage they can do to people and structures! lol
For this to really work, you would first want the flag always away from people and structures. Then you would have to calculate (in pounds) the worst wind pressure in the area which you live, and figure out how many pounds of strength your magnets would have to be, to stay together, and not fly off the flag during those higher wind bursts of pressure. But more importantly, are the magnets flying through the air on the flag! Anyone hit by these could seriously lose an eye or worse! It would definitely puncture vinyl siding ..and dent aluminum siding!
