You bet! Yeah, once you've done it a few times it gets easier, as long as all of the bolts are rust-free and come off easily. Down here in Texas that isn't a problem, but I imagine the cars in the rust belt are a nightmare to work on! Thanks for watchin!
Awesome, I was actually kinda worried about the AWD equipment getting in the way but that's not bad, well with the exception of having to remove the wipers, the vents and the negative jump terminal. Brakes are easy but I'd do it for more channel content, ijs
Great video! I love your “home-slice” technique. I’ll guarantee the thumbs down votes were from those proper knit-picken master techs types concerning your choice of tools, ie crescent wrench, claw hammer, chrome socket with an impact etc.. but you are real world, that’s why we love these type of videos, they are intended for the do it yourselfers’, and most times our tool inventory isn’t Snap-on,.. but we get er’ done, run-with-what-you-brung! Thanks for the tips on the little “God-damn-it’s”.. the reusable (if you do it right) plastic pieces. 😃👍
Thanks Sam!!! I appreciate it :-) I was hoping to get back on my Monte Carlo this weekend but it's been raining here steady since yesterday. Figured I would use the down time to put up a vid since I hadn't in a long time. Thanks for stoppin in :-)
Thanks Erik! And yeah, they covered the struts up pretty good. I had been putting it off for a while, because I wasn't looking forward to peeling all of that stuff off the top. Long video but I tried to cram in as much as possible. Thanks for droppin in, good to see you!
The sway bar link on the 2008 Saturn outlook I’m working on the whole bolt is spinning now after I loosen it about half way can you tell me what to do next please 😊
How did the Gabriel shocks hold up we are about to replace ours and I noticed the Monroe had bad reviews so I was wondering the quality of the Gabriel brand
Thanks for the video. I now feel confident enough to try this job myself and All I've done on my own so far are my brake pads. It's rare to see guys doing videos from home with such good shots and editing.... and all the "Pro" shops with videos make it seem easier said than done. (Assholes didn't even mention the splined bolts!) Any suggestions or pointers on how to select a good model of struts? Also is there any reason why you put the jack stands closer to the middle of the car rather than on the sides? If so, Where are you putting them exactly? I've got a 2007 Saturn that I never want to let go so I'll really appreciate all you post with your vehicle.
How did those Gabriel shocks work out for you? Any viewers try this repair with a different brand? I did some research, My budget is $300 for front and back. These FCS look similar to Monroe's front struts for ($100 a piece.). Are the Monroe's that much more reliable for $127 each? Hey Tyler! Sorry for the late reply. Thank you for the kind words, I really appreciate it! Usually when I place the jackstands under a car, and also when positioning a floor jack, I look for solid contact points on the frame or suspension. GM's Lambda platform has a full front member and rear suspension that attaches to a unibody so there aren't any frame rails to set the stands under. On the Outlook, I placed the jackstands under the front subframe. They're also out of the way of the tires. I have a large floor jack and it is was easy for me to raise the front of the car high enough to place both stands under at once. As for the strut manufacturer, I selected the Gabriels because of reviews and cost. I found more complaints on the Monroes as far as life cycle goes. I've actually never heard of FCS struts so I cannot be a fair judge of their quality. Good luck on your repairs!
Thanks for getting back to me KT. no worries on timing. i was always nervous about jacking up the subframe so thanks for clarifying. I also saw those bad reviews on the Monroe strut mounts so I steered clear. ill let u know how the fcs play out.
Hey another question, did you torque the 15/16th nuts over the splinned bolts? One of the other videos said to do it at 120 lbs but my torque wrench only goes up to 100. Should I use another tool?
Wow, that's a lot. I think 100 ft. lbs. is plenty. If I recall, that's about a 1/2" diameter bolt and a Grade 8, 1/2" coarse thread bolt is rated for 106 ft lbs. If you want to get closer to 120, you can tighten to 100 and go and additional 1/6" of a turn, or one additional flat on the nut, since it's a hexagonal bolt.
Love the vid currently in the process of switching mines all around but I was wondering what is the lug bolt pattern I search’d it up but it comes out with the 5 lug specs but mines are 6 and it’s a 2010
Funny how when the camera goes on we forget some of the simplest terms. I just did that on my HHR and it would have been way easier and cost me less time to get the complete strut tower assembly.
Sorry, Sam... I thought I had replied. Thanks for the kind words! I think I have a vid coming on replacing the brake pads and rotors, but we got rid of her a while back. We were over 110k miles on her and the repairs were starting to rack up. Thanks for watchin!
I didn't know that, Ken. That's too bad, because changing them out is a pain in the ass and twice as much if you have to disassemble them. Thanks for watchin!
Ya that was impressive, I was told a back yard mechanic couldn’t do that at home Thanks for sharing.
Thank so much for all your Saturn Outlook videos. You have been a God send. !!!!!!!
You are very welcome!!! Thank you for the kind words and thanks for watchin!
Thanks so much for the video. It took me about 3.5 hours start to finish, and I'm not a mechanic. You saved me a ton of money.
Terrific job! I'm happy it helped, thanks for watchin!!!
No wonder the shop is changing an arm & a leg for this repair! Thanks for posting!
You bet! Yeah, once you've done it a few times it gets easier, as long as all of the bolts are rust-free and come off easily. Down here in Texas that isn't a problem, but I imagine the cars in the rust belt are a nightmare to work on! Thanks for watchin!
thanks for your help buddy it came out great front and back 3 hours thanks to you for all the guidance god bless
Awesome! So glad it helped. God bless!
Thanks for taking the extra time to do these videos
My pleasure! I learned so much from others and just trying to pay it forward. Thanks for watchin!!!
Awesome, I was actually kinda worried about the AWD equipment getting in the way but that's not bad, well with the exception of having to remove the wipers, the vents and the negative jump terminal. Brakes are easy but I'd do it for more channel content, ijs
Glad you found it useful. Yeah, the wipers were just about the biggest pain in this replacement. Thanks for watchin!

run-with-what-you-brung! Thanks for the tips on the little “God-damn-it’s”.. the reusable (if you do it right) plastic pieces. 😃👍
Haha, right?!? Whatever it takes, we get it done. :-)
Good to see a vid from you KT, great repair!
Thanks Sam!!! I appreciate it :-) I was hoping to get back on my Monte Carlo this weekend but it's been raining here steady since yesterday. Figured I would use the down time to put up a vid since I hadn't in a long time. Thanks for stoppin in :-)
awesome explanation
about to do this thank you for doing this
Man, that is a lot of work just to get to the struts. Great shirt buddy!
Thanks Erik! And yeah, they covered the struts up pretty good. I had been putting it off for a while, because I wasn't looking forward to peeling all of that stuff off the top. Long video but I tried to cram in as much as possible. Thanks for droppin in, good to see you!
Well done KT and glad you didn't lose your nuts doing that job :P
Hah! Thank Jerry!! My wife checked for me, they're still there LOL! Thanks for watchin brother!
Not a bad job at all. You made it look easy but I bet if you didn't mention the splined strut bolts guys would be reefing on them big time. LOL
Thanks Steve!! LOL, I was givin her all kinds of hell on the driver's side. Thanks for watchin!'
The sway bar link on the 2008 Saturn outlook I’m working on the whole bolt is spinning now after I loosen it about half way can you tell me what to do next please 😊
😂😂😂BRO video😂😂😂and the NUT JOKES ARE AWESOME
Your support means a lot! I appreciate you enjoying the humor in the video. Thanks for watching!
Ken!!! Great video my friend! Good to see you!
Ayy!! Thanks Gary, good to see you brother! Hey, you changed your channel name, i like it!
Thanks Ken. I had to change it lol some people just didn't get it. Hope all is well.
Nice repair 512!
Thanks Jeff, I appreciate the kind words! Thanks for stoppin by!
Have you replaced rear control arms on 2008 Saturn outlook?
No sir, never had to on this one before we traded it in.
Fantastic for London
Thanks!!
How did the Gabriel shocks hold up we are about to replace ours and I noticed the Monroe had bad reviews so I was wondering the quality of the Gabriel brand
I prefer Gabriel, myself. I've replace worn shocks before using Monroe and could hardly tell a difference.
one question, the top and large nuts must be torqued or not. Thanks!
Thanks for the video. I now feel confident enough to try this job myself and All I've done on my own so far are my brake pads.

Mine was six too.
@@512kjt would you happen to know the lug nut pattern?
thanks for the vid man. great job👍
You bet! Thanks for the nice words!!! Take care :-D
What do I do if the wipe blade want twist to pop off?
Sorry for the late reply. Were you able to get the wiper arms removed?
Funny how when the camera goes on we forget some of the simplest terms. I just did that on my HHR and it would have been way easier and cost me less time to get the complete strut tower assembly.
LOL, you know it! You should see how much crap I have to edit out because of the "uuhhhhs" and the stutters. Thanks for droppin in!
512kjt Great video man, very helpful. Any more Saturn videos coming out? Still working on mine, neverending with this ole girl.
Sorry, Sam... I thought I had replied. Thanks for the kind words! I think I have a vid coming on replacing the brake pads and rotors, but we got rid of her a while back. We were over 110k miles on her and the repairs were starting to rack up. Thanks for watchin!
What about torque values?
Good question! I don't recall, since it's been yrs ago since I did this work. Sorry about that!
I swear this is the hardest car I've ever worked on😤
Not my favorite, for sure!
A lot of cars they don't sell them complete.
I didn't know that, Ken. That's too bad, because changing them out is a pain in the ass and twice as much if you have to disassemble them. Thanks for watchin!
Wipers have to be removed to change struts? Wtf? Ummmm....I'll find out and I will for sure post back.
I didn't see any other way to take off the cowl cover. Let us know what you find out, thanks!
