I had a sportshift for years. Never put it in sport, left off the throttle when changing gear unless you have the pedal to the floor then just change with your foot buried to the floor, and try avoiding D
Great video! This is a nuance that nobody can really relate to until they actually drive this car and feel how strongly it lurches. I've learned to adjust my driving style and im super happy with it, but it was definitely not something I was expecting when owning this car at first. Also that exhaust is BRUTAL! Love it.
Well said! A surprising discovery but easily remedied once you adjust to it. The Sportshift transmission gets bashed so badly, somewhat unfairly I think. I grew to like it! P.S. Here’s me revving that exhaust out, brutal indeed! Best sounding Aston ever IMO. th-cam.com/video/yZgwTKljb4o/w-d-xo.html
I adapted my driving style quite well, I can execute shifts from 1st to 7th gear smoothly and no lurch at all. Smoother than in my V8 Vantage 6-speed manual in fact. So I’m not sure what you’re referring to. The auto mode is jerky, no way around it. Manual mode is smooth when you adapt your driving style and lift off throttle on shifts. Simple as that.
@@marclovescarsIf that is the case why are you complaining about it? You sold the car after a year due to the transmission yet it shifts smoothly? If you wanted a manual - GET THE MANUAL 😂
Agree 100%. In manual mode I really like it! I think all the sequential manual gearboxes (Ferrari, BMW, etc.) had terrible shifting in auto mode, the problem definitely wasn’t unique to Aston.
The DB9 is designed to be a proper GT car, and has a different transmission. It has a 6 speed Torque Converter automatic, while the Vantage has a robotised manual. The ZF6HP from the DB9 is known to be very smooth.
The gearbox totally put me off the Vantage when I test drove one. Much happier with the proper automatic gearbox in my V12 Virage. No lifting off required, or jerking in D, and flappy paddle mode is there if you want to play or unleash the pops and bangs on the overrun!
Ah nice, good call there, I forgot about that. I looked at a Virage myself, should have bought it, instead bought a Vantage and sold it one year later. Aston should have gone with traditional automatic gearboxes across the board IMO. Almost no one likes the Sportshift. Especially with the V12, the traditional auto is a better, smoother, more luxurious match with the option to shift when you want to. Happy motoring!
@@marclovescarsif you were after a luxurious slow shiting 12 cylinder aston is not for you. Get a continental gt and be done with it. This is supposed to be a performance car. With proper technique there is nothing wrong with either sportshift transmission. Both are quick and smooth with the paddles. They should never have offered an ‘automatic’ mode. Automated means no clutch operation, thats it. It is NOT an automatic, so why you insist on driving it like one is beyond me.

I mean never put in in comfort it will eat the clutch

Oh dear another review of an automated manual single clutch system by someone who doesn’t know how to adapt their driving style….

Buy the manual Vantage then! I love mine
I did! See my other videos. Sold it quickly though, the shifting was too stiff and notchy for me. I replaced it with an M2 Competition.
Most didnt drive it in sport shift mode...got a bad rap

I've owned 3 db9's - may I suggest you get your gearbox examined by an Aston Martin qualified machanic and get it repaired !!!
