The statement that moose aren't typically aggressive is completely incorrect. Bull moose are pure testosterone, and extremely territorial. They kill more people in Alaska than grizzlies.
@joem-q4m I did a 14 day solo hike in Denali a little over a decade ago, and I met with a ranger before I went in to talk to me about a few different things, and he pretty much told me the same thing. As long as you make noise and don't startle the bears they leave you alone, but you run into a bull moose out in the wilderness and it decides it doesn't like you, have your affairs in order.
This channel is definitely one of my favourites. Right down to business, not overly dramatic, and stays respectful and true to the story and the people in it.
12:20 I'd say it wasn't that because the Mountain lion felt threatened it didn't attack, it's opposite, it felt so unthreatened by the Hiker, it felt comfortable enough to stalk him.
Predation attempts are all about prey being less trouble than they're worth. If a predator thinks that a prey animal is dangerous enough to hurt them, even if it ultimately dies, it will usually abandon the hunt. That seems to be what happened here.
it's about as good an example of what not to do with a mountain lion as there gets. if you're going to go in the wilderness, learn about the wildlife you may run into before you go - especially if you're bringing children. they're much more likely to be stalked than adults.
“I am much bigger than you” That guy was incredibly lucky. Cougars are all around those areas, people just never see them. So when you do see it, it’s not good. Looks like it was more curious than it was deathly starved or else that would’ve gone left REAL quick.

It's not a gap in police protocol. It's the fact that there's a limited number of forensic testing labs which are backlogged anywhere from 6 months to like 2 years. It simply makes zero sense to spend the money and cause further backlog for some random clothes found that's not connected to anything and hope a year later it wasn't a total waste of time when there's actually pertinent evidence that needs to be tested.

I don’t go into the woods without being strapped or at the very least carrying bear spray. Ever. NEVER turn your back on a mountain lion or black bear! My goodness! @@noaharmendariz14 some ww2 jeeps (the open top kind) had these triangular metal bars fixed vertically on the front to cut such wires. Must be a bit unwieldy on motocross bike, though.

For anyone wondering, the reason you aren't supposed to turn around or run when faced with a mountain lion (or any other predatory big cat) is because it triggers their instinct to chase prey. Instead, maintain eye contact and slowly move backwards, ideally towards a vehicle or a building. Remain upright, and try to make yourself appear bigger by raising your arms, spreading out your jacket if you're wearing one. The guy making the video is extremely lucky he survived the encounter doing what he did.
The mountain lion will actually attack if it *doesn't* feel you're a threat. The thing to do with them is get big, get loud, and don't flee. the guy in the video was lucky that his meek vocalizations were apparently just enough to make the mountain lion think he wasn't worth the effort.
As someone who successfully scared off a mountain lion from inside my tent, make yourself MASSIVE, make crazy loud noises, scream and growl, wave your arms, make yourself absolutely terrifying and they'll say, "Nope, not worth it" And leave.
Been watching for a few months now, and just really have to say that I appreciate this channel. At 8:17 the location appears to be possibly somewhere in Appalachia, you can tell by the palm tree like leafs which come from a tree called rhododendron which grows pretty much anywhere in Appalachia. I used to work deep in the woods of the PacNW and NW. We went where no people go, behind locked forest Service roads within millions of acres. I've come across MT Lions, Bears (not Grizzly) Moose, Elk, Eagles, Hawks etc and I only had one experience where I got between a Mama Moose and her baby where I was charged. She stopped as soon as I dove into a snowbank knowing I was wrong. I still felt much safer than going to my car at night. Humans are by far the scariest animals.
The guy that was being stalked by a cougar didn't react in a good manner. He turned and ran, the number 1 thing you never, ever do in that situation. You get big by raising your arms and yelling at the cougar. Yet this guy didn't seem to do any of that. There had to be sticks, rocks, or something around to throw too, but again he didn't do anything. He was probably scared but you have to stay calm and keep your wits. This is a good reason why I always carry when I am out hiking or exploring. And I always remember that the most dangerous, deadly animal is another person.
I’ve been listening to these for a few days now while I crochet/ knit. I really enjoy how it’s not too much of anything else, just stories and not too much music or anything. I’ve been rather enjoying it. I saw this was posted 20 minutes ago I was like hell yeah.😅

As long as you make noise and don't startle the bears they leave you alone, but you run into a bull moose out in the wilderness and it decides it doesn't like you, have your affairs in order.

seems like a real gap in police protocol to NOT accept articles of clothing for testing without knowledge of a crime committed.
@DarkSideMaceWindu yeah so you'd think that's where budget would be most useful. Actually following evidence of violent crimes. Otherwise what's the point
